I think we somehow convince ourselves that Christ s suffering on the cross is sufficient for everyone but us. But true faith can help us to heal. Some say faith is blind. But it seems to me that sometimes faith opens our eyes. Tuesday Called to Holiness God calls us all to holiness. No matter where we are in life, no matter what we ve done, God is showing us the way even if it twists and turns in seeming darkness. Christ will never abandon us. He calls out to us, and we must respond. Wednesday Worth the Risk The simple truth is that every act of self-giving love turns the world upside down. It seems like that s the one thing the world is never prepared for. Anytime we choose to love, we invite heartbreak. Some refuse to love wholeheartedly because of this; they shy away and shun love, unwilling to risk getting hurt. Daily Reflection Thursday Accepting God s Grace The wonderful thing is saying yes and accepting God s grace. We could say no and walk away. But when we say yes and go forward, great and wonderful things will happen. It takes courage in the midst of fear, but you do it with the grace of God. Father Mychal Judge Friday Led by the Spirit The Holy Spirit is within us, calling us to think about God, see where God really is & what God is saying in his Word. Gradually, the realization builds within us that God is our Father, Jesus is our brother, & the Spirit gives us a share in the divine life. We can experience always the great mysteries of God s love & his salvation in Christ. Saturday Inflame Our Hearts O God, send your Spirit into our midst that he may enlighten our minds & inflame our hearts, that he may give us a right faith, a certain hope, & a perfect charity. In this way, through this Spirit, we pray that we may be able to understand the Word of God given to us in the Scriptures. Sunday Deposit of Grace I knew my faith, & its practices were consoling me in ways nothing else could, but in time I would see that there was more happening than that that a deposit of grace was building in my soul, even in the midst of my sorrow, which would, in due season, roll the stone away from my heart & release rays of resurrection joy. 3 Volume 62, Number 27, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 My brothers and sisters in Christ, Happy Independence Day! May the Lord bless our nation and our troops who defend it! - Fr. Vidrine This prayer was composed by John Carrol in the first bishop appointed for the United States in 1789 by Pope Pius VI. He was the first archbishop when his see of Baltimore was elevated to the status of an archdiocese. John was a cousin of Charles Carroll of Maryland, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. PRAYER FOR OUR NATION We pray, Thee O Almighty and Eternal God! Who through Jesus Christ hast revealed Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy, that Thy Church, being spread through the whole world, may continue with unchanging faith in the confession of Thy Name. We pray Thee, who alone art good and holy, to endow with heavenly knowledge, sincere zeal, and sanctity of life, our chief bishop, Pope Benedict XVI, the Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the government of his Church; our own bishop, Michael Jarrell, all other bishops, prelates, and pastors of the Church; and especially those who are appointed to exercise amongst us the functions of the holy ministry, and conduct Thy people into the ways of salvation. We pray Thee O God of might, wisdom, and justice! Through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality. Let the light of Thy divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty. We pray for his excellency, the governor of this state, for the members of the assembly, for all judges, magistrates, and other officers who are appointed to guard our political welfare, that they may be enabled, by Thy powerful protection, to discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and ability. We recommend likewise, to Thy unbounded mercy, all our brethren and fellow citizens throughout the United States, that they may be blessed in the knowledge and. To these, O Lord, and to all that rest in Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, a place of refreshment, light, and everlasting peace, through the same Jesus Chsanctified in the observance of Thy most holy law; that they may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal. Finally, we pray to Thee, O Lord of mercy, to remember the souls of Thy servants departed who are gone before us with the sign of faith and repose in the sleep of peace; the souls of our parents, relatives, and friends; of those who, when living, were members of this congregation, and particularly of such as are lately deceased; of all benefactors who, by their donations or legacies to this Church, witnessed their zeal for the decency of divine worship and proved their claim to our grateful and charitable remembrance through Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Amen. Stewardship of Finances Offertory (June 25-26, 2016) $ 1, Peter s Pence $ Total: $ 1, Please remember to put St. Anthony Church in your will. - The Church office will be closed Monday, July 4. For details, contact Sidney Bennett at PRAYER FOR PROTECTION DURING HURRICANE SEASON O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen. [Composed by Most Rev. Maurice Schexnayder ( ),Second Bishop of Lafayette ( ) in 1957]
