When at certain moments in life we fail to find any way out of our difficulties, when we sink in the thickest darkness, it is the moment of our total humiliation, the hour in which we experience that we are frail and are sinners. Tuesday Kiss the Cross to Christ It is precisely then, at that moment, that we must not deny our failure but rather open ourselves trustingly to hope in God, as Jesus did. Dear brothers and sisters, this week it will do us good to take the crucifix in hand and kiss it many, many times and say: Thank you, Jesus, thank you, Lord. So be it. Wednesday Pray for Grace Most of us aren t likely to betray anyone to a death squad. But as we meditate on the events of the Passion, we might reflect on the times we ve betrayed a trust, the times we ve talked about someone behind their back, the times we ve stayed silent when a friend has been ridiculed. Resolve to keep silent when tempted to gossip and to speak out when others are gossiping. That sound like a challenge, doesn t it? It is. Pray for the grace to meet it. Daily Reflection Thursday Love Frees Us Selfishness leads nowhere and love frees. Those who are able to live their lives as a gift to give others will never be alone and will never experience the drama of the isolated conscience. Jesus says something remarkable to us: Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Love always takes this path: to give one s life. Friday The Good News Jesus death and resurrection express a reality that is complicated, emotionally moving, and yet joyful. Death does not have the last word. And that is indeed the good news. God is the one who will be there for us! God is the one who is concerned and cares for us! God is the one who, as we pray in Psalm 34, hears the cry of the poor! Saturday We Are the Body of Christ As members of the body of Christ, we experience the death and resurrection that Jesus did. Everything in our lives the heights of joy and triumph, the depths of suffering and death is united with the life of Christ. The cross is before us now with its wordless challenge to love beyond death. Take some time this week to think about events in your own live that have given you an experience of Jesus command to pick up your cross and follow him. God is like a mother, gently trying to coax another step out of a young child learning to walk, God exists as an infinite patience that endures all things. The cross of Christ reveals that God works far differently than do our imaginations. God never overpowers anyone. God s power to create love and community.

3 Volume 64, Number 14, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Easter Sunday is here! Lent is finally over. This is a day worth celebrating, as our salvation was fully opened up to us on this day. Since it is Easter, I will take a break from the Catechism look for this weekend. Instead, I invite you to take some time to really ponder the meaning of this Sunday someone actually came back from the dead! This is a true historical event, one that really proves the truth of our Catholic faith. Our faith really hinges on the Resurrection. If it did not happen if Jesus did not rise from the dead then he would have been a liar. But to the witness of the Apostles and others, He truly did. He proved to the world that He is the Messiah, the Son of God. And He made salvation possible for us. So rejoice on this day! Celebrate this day! But as you do so, do not let your Lent be for naught. Remember, Lent is supposed to change us for the better. If we go back to old ways and old habits after Easter, then our Lent was pointless. Nothing happened. But if we strive to continue to better ourselves this Easter, then like Christ, we will become new. We will become our true selves. We will be alive in Christ. We will live in the Spirit, ready to meet our Lord with joy and purity when we finally come face-to-face with Him! As the Entrance Antiphon for this day reminds us: The Lord is truly risen, alleluia! To him be glory and power for all the ages of eternity, alleluia, alleluia! Let us praise the Lord, and give Him thanks! In Christ the Lord, Fr. Office will reopen on Wednesday, April 4. ******N ew Mass Schedule:****** Starting this week, the new changes to the weekday mass schedule take effect. Most of the masses remain the same. What changes this week will be as follows: Wednesday Mass will now be at 12:00pm (noon) instead of the evening, starting April 4. There will now be only ONE Saturday morning mass per month that being the First Saturday of the month. This begins this Saturday, April 7, at 8:00am. Diocese of Lafayette: Centennial News St. Landry Church Dedicated - April 7, 1909, marks the dedication of the current St. Landry Church in Opelousas by Archbishop Blenk of New Orleans. This massive Romanesque Revival church still stands as one of the largest churches in southwest Louisiana. St. Landry Church Parish traces its establishment back to 1776 and is the second oldest parish in the Diocese of Lafayette. Over the years, many new parishes would be formed from the boundaries of St. Landry in Opelousas. In 1920, Bishop Jeanmard formed a second parish in Opelousas, Holy Ghost, in order to expand ministry to African-American Catholics in Opelousas. Jubilee Bible Marathon In honor of the Centennial of the Diocese of Lafayette , the Holy Bible will be read from cover to cover in the Square of St. Martinville beginning Wednesday, April 4 th at 12:30pm to Sunday, April 8 th at 4:30pm hours for 100 years!!! St. Mary Magdelen is our oldest Church Parish in the West Deanery and the 8 th oldest canonically established Church Parish in the Diocese. Our Centennial Year is well underway and all Clergy and Laity are invited to attend this Mass and reception with Bishop Deshotel. On April 13 in 1918, Jules B. Jeanmard, who was then the Administrator of the Diocese of New Orleans, was sub delegated by the Apostolic Delegate to carry out and begin the actual work of forming the Diocese of Lafayette. Thus we continue to celebrate our history and hear the call of God for today and tomorrow in our Diocese. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.
