How simple! And yet how difficult! Please give me grace not to disappoint him, who has given his all for me. I ask this in Jesus s name, Amen. 12:05 pm 7:00 am 8:00 am (EF) Tuesday Be At Peace Remember this: the Lord wants us to be at peace, and the closer we are to Him, the more peaceful we feel. Peace is a good indicator that our actions are pleasing to Him. On the other hand, a persistent lack of peace typically indicates that the Lord is trying to get your attention. Give Him that attention, and He will show hou what s up! Kimberly Sellers Wednesday Half the Battle It is critical to the Christian life to accept the fact that whatever happens in your life it God s will. It s half the battle. The other half is learning to embrace suffering and uncomfortable situations as they arise. Daily Reflection Thursday Trusting God God wants us to trust Him. That often involves walking in mystery. It also requires us to recognize the fact that God can always bring good out of evil. The Bible is filled with stories of bad, even evil, decisions, but somehow God s will prevailed, and we ended up with a Savior. Friday Praise God s Glory Ultimately, God s will for us isn t complicated. He wants us to live with Him forever in Heaven: We who first hoped in Christ have been destined and appointed to live for the praise of His glory (Ephesia ns 1:12). Saturday Always in Control Father, there is a certain joy watching Jesus move through his final days with such calm certitude, as he uses each step along the way to project powerful messages. Help me to have confidence to know there is nothing in my life that is out of your control. I ask this Jesus s name, Amen. Let me live with a freedom that acknowledges what Jesus has done for us by his death on the cross. I ask this in him name, Amen.

3 Volume 62, Number 26, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 Stewardship of Finances Offertory (June 18-19, 2016) $ 2, My brothers and sisters in Christ, In the Gospel for the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear about the two Apostles, James and John, asking the Lord to call down fire from Heaven upon the Samaritan village that refused to receive or welcome Him. This is traditionally believed to be the reason they were given the nickname Sons of Thunder. However, there is one commentary of the Jesuit Father Cornelius a Lapide, which gives us a different take: Christ called James and John by a new name, Banerges, Sons of thunder, because He charged them above the rest of the Apostles with the glorious preaching of His Gospel, that by the holiness of their lives and their miracles they might be like thunderbolts, and might, by the power of their voices, shake as with claps of thunder unbelievers and barbarians, and bring them to repentance and a holy life This appears in the history of S. James. Because of his liberty and zeal in preaching, he was the first among the Apostles to incur the wrath of Herod and the Jews, by whom he was beheaded (Acts xii.). The same converted the Spaniards, and by their means the inhabitants of the East and West Indies, to the faith of Christ John preached for a very long period, and very efficaciously. He was the last of the Apostles to depart this life, which he did after he had subdued Asia and other provinces to Christ by his preaching. Hence, also, his Gospel begins with divine thunder, as it were an eagle of God crying with a voice of thunder, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (S. Epiphanius, Hæres. 73). Wherefore, when he was writing his Gospel, there were lightnings and thunderings from Heaven, like as it lightened from Mount Sinai when God gave the law to Moses. In either case, may we, unlike James and John, never respond in anger, hatred or retribution to those who might be worthy of it, wanting to destroy them. Instead, like the more saintly part of James and John, may we be as zealous as them to preach the Gospel through our lives and bring many who do not believe or have fallen away from belief to Christ and His Church. Most of all, may we always see the potential of the greatest sinner to be one of Christ s greatest Saints, and be willing to cooperate with the Lord to help make that happen, according to His will! In Christ the Lord, Fr. Vidrine Please remember to put St. Anthony Church in your will. Intentions of Pope Francis for the month of June Universal: That the aged, marginalized, and those who have no one may find-even within the huge cities of the world-opportunities for encounter and solidarity. Evangelization: That seminarians and men and women entering religious life may have mentors who live the joy of the Gospel and prepare them wisely for their mission. For details, contact Sidney Bennett at PRAYER FOR PROTECTION DURING HURRICANE SEASON O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen. [Composed by Most Rev. Maurice Schexnayder ( ),Second Bishop of Lafayette ( ) in 1957]
