Daily Reflection Thursday Come Out in the Open Jesus is calling each of us not to hide behind the walls that give us security but to be free, free to be ourselves and to speak the truth, even if it hurts. Friday Reliance on God When a child is born, the mother and father are a bit like God. The child is fed, nourished, and given everything by their parents, even their existence. Saturday We Are Beloved I am loved, just as I am. This then is the treasure that Jesus wants to reveal, our deepest identity, that of the beloved. Being loved by God liberates us from our need to win, so that we can become artisans of peace in our world. Sunday Accepting One Another If we try to see what is good in others and to accept what is broken in ourselves, we will come closer together, accepting one another as human beings created and loved by God. This spiritual growth is a double movement: growth in wonderment and growth in humility. 3 Volume 61, Number 44, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 Brothers and sisters in Christ, Stewardship of Finances October 25, 2015 Offertory $ 2, Cemetery upkeep $ All Souls $ $ 2, As you ll notice, the current missal in the pews - Leaflet Missal - comes to an end this weekend. Normally, we would receive new ones that would last a few months, but I ve made the decision to change the missals to one that will last the whole liturgical year - the Ignatius Pew Missal - published by Ignatius Press. We ll be making this change for three reasons: 1 - The nature of the Sacred Liturgy itself. It is holy. And all of the things used for the Church s sacred worship are set apart for it. They too become holy. Changing missalettes six times a year teaches us that things of the Church s Sacred Liturgy are disposable. They shouldn t be and are not. 2 - The call of Pope Francis. He has called us to care for creation, and do our best to be good stewards of God s gifts to us in the world. Changing from a missal printed every few months to one that will last the whole liturgical year will help us to rid waste and lessen the temptation to consumerism. 3 - More economical. The change in the missal from American Catholic Press to the one from Ignatius Press will cut the cost to nearly half! Instead of spending nearly $1,000 per year, we ll spend a little over $500 per year. Because of this difference, we ll also be able to provide a few more copies of the missal in the pews. Finally, because the Leaflet Missal ends this weekend and the new Ignatius Pew Missal doesn t begin until the First Sunday of Advent (November 29), we ll print our own copies of the readings for four weeks in November. Please do your best when not using them to follow along with the readings and prayers to keep the printed sheets in the bookracks of the pews Thanks! In Christ the Lord, Fr. INDULGENCES FOR ALL SOULS A plenary ( full ) indulgence, which is applicable only to the souls in Purgatory, is granted to the Christian faithful who devoutly visit a church on (November 2nd,) All Souls Day. Requirements: - Visit a church and pray for souls in Purgatory - Say one Our Father and the Apostles Creed in the visit to the church - Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary for the Holy Father s intentions (that is, the intentions designated by the Holy Father each month) - Worthily receive Holy Communion (ideally on the same day if you can get to Mass) - Make a sacramental confession within 20 days of All Souls Day For a plenary indulgence be free from all attachment to sin, even venial sin (otherwise, the indulgence is partial, not plenary, full ). You can acquire one plenary indulgence a day. A partial indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, can be obtained by visiting a cemetery and praying for the departed the prayer: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
