2 A parishioner has given me a pamphlet with an article entitled: Twelve reasons from the teachings of the Church for wanting to spend one hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. During the next few weeks I should like to have some in our newsletter. ix. Just as you can t be exposed to the sun without receiving its rays, neither can you come to Jesus exposed in the Blessed Sacrament without receiving the Divine Rays of His Grace, His Love, His Peace. Christ is truly the Emmanuel, that is, God with us, day and night, His is in our midst. He dwells with us full of grace and truth. He restores morality, nourishes virtue, consoles the afflicted, strengthens the weak. (Pope Paul Vl, Mysterium Fidei) x. If Jesus were actually visible in church, everyone would run to welcome Him, but He remains hidden in the Sacred Host under the appearance of Bread, because he is calling us to faith, that we many come to Him in humility. The Blessed Sacrament is the Living Heart of each of our churches and it is our very sweet duty to honour and adore the Blessed Host, which our eyes see, the Incarnate Word, Whom they cannot see. (Pope Paul Vl, Credo of the People of God) From the Catechism of the Catholic Church (slightly adapted): Paragraph 1328: The inexhaustible richness of this sacrament is expressed in the different names we give it. Each name evokes certain aspects of it. It is called: Eucharist, because it is an action of thanksgiving to God. Paragraph 1330: Paragraph 1331: The memorial of the Lord s Passion and Resurrection. The Holy Sacrifice, because it makes present the one sacrifice of Christ the saviour and includes the Church s offering. Holy Communion, because by this sacrament we unite ourselves to Christ who makes us sharers in his Body and Blood to form a single body.

3 Deacon Richard s Bible Class will take a break during August. It will start again on Thursday 6 th September at 6pm in the Presbytery Oratory. Bude: A replacement carpet has been laid in the sanctuary, greatly improving its appearance. Thank you Anne Hammond for organising this. Launceston: Some altar linen for the Shrine of St Cuthbert Mayne has been donated. Many thanks. Please welcome Fr Kevin O Connell, who will preside at all Masses this weekend. First Holy Communion classes (age 7+) and Confirmation classes (age 14+) will begin in October. The Celebration Masses will be in Eastertide The next meeting of the St Cuthbert Mayne St Vincent de Paul Society will be at 2 pm on Tuesday, 7th August 2018 in the Charles Langdon Room. Music at Launceston: we are using some Mass settings new to us. The words and music are in our hymn books as follows: Gloria 409, Sanctus (Holy, Holy) 966c, Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) 966h Please follow the text and music in your hymn books to familiarise yourselves with these settings. I have provided our choir with a Melody Edition of our new hymn books, which should provide some practical help.
