Knowing that you are always resigned to the will of heaven fills my soul with superlative joy. Wednesday Peace is Perfection Peace is simplicity of heart, serenity of mind, tranquility of soul, the bond of love. Peace means order, harmony in our whole being; it means continual contentment springing from the knowledge of a good conscience; it is the holy joy of a heart in which God reigns. Daily Reflection Thursday Be Lighthearted Lord, help me not to take myself too seriously but to laugh readily at myself. Even my worst troubles have a ridiculous side. Friday Defending the Poor We are called to find Christ in them, to lend our voice to their causes, but also to be their friends, to listen to them, to speak for them and to embrace the mysterious wisdom which God wishes to share with us through them. Saturday Living the Gospel We need to remind ourselves of what God s word tells us so that when we go into the world, we will recognize the divine challenge in our daily lives: The Church must be a welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel. Sunday Listen to God s Word When we make an effort to listen to the Lord, temptations usually arise. One of them is simply to feel troubled or burdened, and to turn away. Another common temptation is to think about what the text means for other people, and so avoid applying it to our own life. 3 Volume 62, Number 2, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 My brothers and sisters in Christ, Today, the Christmas Season concludes with the celebration of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The Sacred Liturgy offers us, in St Luke's account, the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan (Lk 3: 15-16, 21-22). On this feast, we give thanks to God for the humility of Our Lord, which allowed Him to become one with sinners as He went down into the waters. This is an anticipation of His true union with sinners as He hung upon the Cross, suffering and dying for us and our salvation. We likewise give thanks to God for the gift of our baptism into Christ Jesus. The divine life that we received in our souls through baptism is a foretaste of sharing the Lord s life fully if we persevere in the Lord s grace in this world and are given the gift of Eternal Life when our days are ended. The Second Vatican Council reminded us clearly that all who are baptized are called to holiness. Are we truly striving for that goal on a daily basis? As we begin the Church s season of Ordinary Time, let us strive to remember the call to holiness we have and allow God s mercy and grace to help us achieve it! New Apostolate for Girls! In Christ the Lord, Fr. Vidrine Fr. Vidrine would like to begin a new apostolate for girls and young ladies to serve the Sacred Liturgy at St. Anthony Church: Sacristans of the Child Jesus. The duties of this apostolate include preparing the sacred vessels and articles for Holy Mass in the sacristy before Mass begins, setting up the credence table, and then presenting the gifts for the Offertory of Holy Mass (or designating someone else to present the gifts for them). Any female parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of school age (beginning with 3rd grade) who attends the Weekend Masses at 4pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday is invited to join this important service to our Parish. They would be put on a schedule like the other liturgical ministers. This new apostolate would begin in the new year. Parents of those interested should call the office to let Fr. Show us Your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that You spoke to the Samaritan woman: If you knew the gift of God! You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests His power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be Your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that Your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send Your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and Your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, You who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
