That we have found grace in his eyes means that the Creator sees a unique beauty in our being and that he has a magnificent plan for our lives. Tuesday Each of Us Is a Cherished Story The awareness of this certainty, of course, does not resolve all our problems nor does it take away life s uncertainties. But it does have the power to transform our life deeply. Wednesday Rise from Your Slumber Once we have heard God s voice, we must rise from our slumber; we must get up and act (cf. Rom 13:11). In our families, we have to get up and act! Faith does not remove us from the world, but draws us more deeply into it. This is very important! Daily Reflection Thursday Rise from Your Slumber We have to be deeply engaged with the world, but with the power of prayer. Each of us, in fact, has a special role in preparing for the coming of God s kingdom in our world. Friday Become a Little Christ The Peace Prayer challenges peacemakers to offer the shade of selfconfidence and the refreshment of persistent, Godcentered faith to those who walk in the desert of doubts occasioned by their upbringing or the Dark Night. In so doing, they fulfill their vocations as little Christs who call the world to faith. Saturday Suffering Can Make Us Holy The discovery of a deep wound can become a transformative gift or a wrenching sorrow that opens the heart and soul to longing and realized grace, which is at the core of Christian mystery. No matter who we are, at some time in our life we experience sorrow. We have a choice to either become bitter or become hopeful. Suffering hallows us and invites us to connect with God and others to receive support and care. Sorrow can teach empathy and expand our notion of reality and the world we live in.. Sunday Suffering Can Make Us Holy The potential for spiritual growth in our sorrow and brokenness is found in the detection that it is possible to experience gratitude or even appreciation for what once may have been unbearable.. 3 Volume 64, Number 36, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I am back! And it is good to be back from being out. I hope you enjoyed Fr. Jacek during his visit last weekend, and I pray his mission appeal went well. I also hope that you are having a great Labor Day weekend! For this week s column, I thought it best to put Bishop Desthotel s letter on the recent scandal here the same letter I read in my homily. That way, you can have a hard copy to read for yourself and keep as a reference. May we continue to pray for healing for our Church and her members during this tragic time. Stewardship of Finances Offertory (Aug 25/ Aug 26) $ 1, Cemetery $ Mission Priest $ Religious Ed $ Total $ 2, Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I join with all of you in the mixed emotions of sadness and anger on hearing the news of the Grand Jury report from Pennsylvania on the number of child abuse cases made public recently. Although it spans a period since 1947, even one case of harming a child by abuse is a crime and a sin. Also sad is the poor response and ignorance of the harm done to victims by those in authority. To those victims who suffered so terribly, I offer my apologies for what they suffered in our Church. I also offer my prayers that God speedily heal them and make them whole. I ask that all Catholics in the Diocese of Lafayette join me in prayer and voluntary acts of penance for the victims and their healing. I also ask that you pray for, thank and encourage the many faithful and dedicated priests of our Diocese. They suffer also because of the bad actions of a few. Just as we should not judge all policemen because of a few bad ones, so should we not judge all good and faithful priests. Since 2002, our Diocese has enforced the Safe Environment Program for the Protection of Children and Young People. Everyone who ministers in our Diocese must undergo safe environment training and be updated every year. Every priest, religious, teacher, volunteer, even me, must undergo background checks and safe environment training. I am happy to say that our Diocese received a 100% grade from the auditing firm that ensures compliance. If an allegation is made, it is investigated and if it seems credible, that person is removed from ministry and the legal authorities are notified. This Centennial Year of the founding of our Diocese gives us the opportunity to renew our Catholic Faith and to rededicate our commitment for the safety of all children in our Diocese. As your Bishop, I firmly promise to be vigilant and to guard those placed in my care. If anyone has been harmed by child abuse or suspects abuse is occurring by any church personnel, please notify the Diocesan Office. Again, I ask your prayers for all victims and for me and all our faithful priests. Please remember to put St. Anthony Church in your will. Intention of Pope Francis for the month of September That young people in Africa may have access to education and work in their own countries. Advertiser of the Week Faithfully yours in Christ, Most Reverend J. Douglas Desthotel, D.D. Bishop of Lafayette Thanks to our Bulletin Sponsors! Please visit our sponsors for your needs.

Meeting every Wed. at 4:00 pm in the church hall. For details, contact Sidney Bennett at PRAYER FOR PROTECTION DURING HURRICANE SEASON O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen. [Composed by Most Rev. Maurice Schexnayder ( ),Second Bishop of Lafayette ( ) in 1957]
