After all, he knows everything, so why bother? Even though he is all knowing, he enjoys hearing the words I love you. Daily Reflection Thursday Every Last Inch If I knew nothing...if I had been taught nothing...still, the Great Being would know me. And would walk with me all my days, waiting for my heart to awaken. Friday We Fall Silent Jesus died for us and the whole earth rumble. Now the earth and we are silent. The challenge is to recognize our fear today. We are human. We will die. We do not know what will happen after that. But we also know that Jesus was human. Jesus died. And, he rose from the dead. Too often we forget that fact. "I throw myself at the foot of the Tabernacle like a dog at the foot of his Master." - St. John Vianney Saturday Hope and Fear Today is a day of quiet waiting. An ancient homily for today says, The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep. Such is the truth. Such is the fear. Such is the hope. Sunday Looking Ahead When Jesus appeared transfigured before the apostles there on the mountain, he was showing them and us who he is now and who he is in our, and his, eternal futures. That is the promise of the Gospel. That is the promise of a life in Christ. 3 Volume 62, Number 12, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 My brothers and sisters in Christ, Welcome to Holy Week! The Church s solemn season of penance will come to an end this week on Holy Thursday evening as the Sacred Paschal Triduum begins. Hopefully our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving has been fruitful in preparing us for this week: the Church s most holy days, celebrating the passion, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Just as we have gone through a stripping of our sin and sinful inclinations this Lent, the Church s Sacred Liturgy also expresses this loss of things during Lent. Through the Sacred Liturgy, we are pruned. This is because the Church experiences a liturgical death before the feast of the Resurrection. The Alleluia, instrumental music, and flowers were the first to go on Ash Wednesday. From last Sunday (the 5 th Sunday of Lent), the crucifix, statues and images were veiled in violet. The pruning cuts more deeply as we move into the Sacred Triduum this week. After Mass on Holy Thursday, the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the sanctuary; the altar is stripped, left bare and exposed. Bells are replaced with wooden noisemakers and Holy Water (water being so essential to life) is removed. On Good Friday there isn t even a Mass. (First no water now no food.) At the beginning of the Paschal Vigil, we are deprived of light itself! It is as if the Church herself were completely dead with the Lord in His tomb. This liturgical death of the Church reveals how Christ emptied Himself of His glory in order to save us from our sins and to teach us who we are. The Church then gloriously springs to life again at the Vigil of Easter. In ancient times, the Vigil was celebrated in the depth of night. In the darkness a single spark would be struck from flint and spread into the flames. The flames then spread through the whole Church. The glorious Paschal Candle will take its place within the sanctuary, leading us into the solemn celebration of Christ s Resurrection. If we can connect ourselves in heart and mind with the Church s Sacred Liturgy in which these sacred mysteries are re-presented, then by our active receptivity, we truly become participants in the saving mysteries of Christ s life, death and resurrection. Please reject the temptation of secularism during the holy days approaching - living them in a worldly way. In particular, BE RE- MINDED OF THE CHURCH S DISCIPLINE: GOOD FRIDAY IS A DAY OF PRAYER AND PENANCE, WHICH INCLUDES FASTING AND ABSTINENCE. It s a truly holy day it s our Catholic Faith - let s live it!!! I exhort you once again to come and participate in the celebrations of the Sacred Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday), especially if you have never done so. 5 Volume 62, Number 12, Page 5 It is with great joy that the Diocese of Lafayette receives the news of Pope Francis appointment of our new Bishop - The Most Rev. J. Douglas Deshotel - native of Basile, LA and Priest and Auxiliary Bishop of Dallas, TX. Let us pray for him as he prepares to begin his ministry in the Diocese of Lafayette. The Installation Mass will be on Friday, April 15, 2016, at 2:00pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. New Apostolate for Girls! Fr. Vidrine would like to begin a new apostolate for girls and young ladies to serve the Sacred Liturgy at St. Anthony Church: Sacristans of the Child Jesus. The duties of this apostolate include preparing the sacred vessels and articles for Holy Mass in the sacristy before Mass begins, setting up the credence table, and then presenting the gifts for the Offertory of Holy Mass (or designating someone else to present the gifts for them). Any female parishioner of St. Anthony Church of school age (beginning with 3rd grade) who attends the Weekend Masses at 4pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday is invited to join this important service to our Parish. They would be put on a schedule like the other liturgical ministers. Show us Your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that You spoke to the Samaritan woman: If you knew the gift of God! You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests His power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be Your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that Your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send Your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and Your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, You who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
