This is where we publicly express our faith, joining together with others to give witness of our communion with God and with one another. There are many reasons to register. A sense of belonging and identify in a parish community. Provides the parish community with a way to welcome you. In times of joy and in times of struggle, it is comforting to have the support of a faith family. It is a commitment to practice your faith. Gives a chance for you and your family to be counted and heard in the parish. Being included in the demographics of the parish helps in the planning for the needs of the parish. Gives the parish a way to connect with you. In order to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation or Holy Matrimony you will need to be a registered member. For religious education instruction and Sacramental preparation, the families of those attending must also be registered parishioners. THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Diocesan policy requires couples to contact their parish priest at least six (6) months prior to their desired date. Please contact the Parish Office for more details Sacrament of Baptism Schedule The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated once a month at St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Diocesan policy requires attendance of a Baptismal preparation course for first time parents. Parents must be registered at St. Genevieve or live in the boundaries of our parish. You may attend the class as early as possible; however, you must be registered. Pre-registration is required, please contact the Parish Office for details. Classes & Baptisms are after the Noon Mass. The Church has established the following norms governing the qualifications needed to be a Godparent. The Godparent must: be at least sixteen (16) years old; be a Catholic who has been Confirmed and has already received the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and role to be undertaken; not be bound by any canonical penalty ; What does it mean to lead a life in harmony with the faith and role to be undertaken? In addition to being a fully initiated Catholic (i.e., having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) the Godparent must also be person of faith one who regularly attends Sunday Mass, has been married according to the norms of the Catholic Church (if married), and strives to deepen his or her own relationship with God through Jesus. A good question to ask is: Does this person take care of their own faith...if not he/she likely to help take care of my child s? May a non-catholic be a Godparent? Because the child is being baptized into the Roman Catholic Church, a baptized person who belongs to a non-catholic ecclesial community may not be admitted except as a witness to baptism and together with a Catholic Godparent. (Canon 874,2). In other words, as long as there is one Catholic Godparent who meets all the requirements of the Church listed above, another baptized person, Catholic or non-catholic, may be witness to the baptism.
