We can use them to tear down our spouses, displaying disrespect and undermining their dignity, or we can work to build them up using words of love and encouragement. We must remember that jour spouse holds the highest place in our hearts and lives, second only to God, and thus deserves all the respect we can give them. Tuesday Commited Partners The fourth basic quality of a solid marriage is commitment. This attribute connects to the cardinal virtue of fortitude a willingness to hold fast to the truth even to the point of death. We need fortitude in marriage, and it is previewed with the vow: "Till death do us part." Wednesday Avoiding Sin Our holiness is not marked by how little we are tempted but by our actions when we are. Temptation is the first step to sin, but it is not sin itself. Though God allows temptation, it is not He who tempts us. We are tempted by the world around us, by our flesh, and by the devil. Daily Reflection Thursday Forgiving Others Since God has shown such mercy to us, we must show it to others. God paid an enormous debt for our sins. Can t we then forgive each other? Friday We Are All Sinners Jesus tells us that He came not to call the righteous but sinners (Luke 5:32). We do not have to be perfect to come to Christ; we come to Christ to be perfected. Saturday Be Still Try to spend a minute being still. Turn off any distracting noises. Put aside the cares of the day. Imagine His love showering upon you. Focus on a cross or your favorite picture of Jesus. Be still, and know that He is God. 3 Volume 61, Number 36, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 Stewardship of Finances August 30, 2015 Offertory $2, My brothers and sisters in Christ, He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak. (Mark 7:37) These words that conclude the passage of the Holy Gospel that we hear today express what we believe about Our Lord Jesus Christ: He is the promised Messiah who comes to recreate the world fallen by sin, and He does all things well! It s because of what He has done by His death and resurrection and what He continues to do by communicating to us His grace through the Church and the sacraments that we are able to say - no matter what we are going through in life - it is well! Through the faith in our hearts and the work of our hands, the Lord continues to reach out to those who are burdened and suffer the effects of sin in their lives. If only we were as zealous as those who brought the deaf and mute man to Christ in the Gospel - to bring to Our Lord all those who need His merciful love. It is through our intercession, our mediation, that others can come to know the truth of Christ and experience His forgiveness in their lives. This is the work of every Christian, every member of the Body of Christ. Every one of us is called to pray and sacrifice for others, to speak to them the Good News of the Gospel when the occasion arises, and - most importantly - to witness by our lives what the Lord has done for us. I ll be leaving this week for some days of vacation, so I ll be out next weekend. I m grateful to all of the Priests who will be serving you while I m gone. Fr. Glenn Meaux will be here next weekend to make a missionary appeal for his great work in Haiti.
