3 Volume 62, Number 38, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1 My brothers and sisters in Christ, As you may know, the Diocese of Lafayette comprises 8 civil parishes containing 121 church parishes. These civil parishes are divided into four geographic territories - the North, South, Central and West. So each of these territories have church parishes, missions, and schools. Bishop Deshotel has announced adjustments to the way these geographic territories are governed under his care. Since 2003, these four geographic territories of our diocese were called Episcopal Regions, and they were governed by four Episcopal Vicars. We at St. Anthony in Krotz Springs are in the North Region, and our Episcopal Vicar has been Msgr. Robert Romero. According to the adjustment by Bishop Deshotel, the Episcopal Regions have been replaced by Deaneries. Therefore, these four geographic areas formerly called Regions are now called Deaneries, and they are now headed by Deans. After consultation with the Priests of each Deanery (former Regions), Bishop Deshotel has appointed the following priests to serve the Office of Dean: Stewardship of Finances Offertory (Sept , 2016) $ 2, Catholic University $ Candle Sales $ World Mission $ 5.00 Maintenance $ Total: $ 2, Please remember to put St. Anthony Church in your will. For more information visit the CJC website or call (337) St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery There is a display board at the Church entrance which has information concerning a new mausoleum program for St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery. This is a survey to see if there is enough interest to proceed with the design, sales and construction of a new mausoleum. The information shows a rendering of the proposed mausoleum along with information concerning the cost of spaces and the financing that will be available. Also with the display board is a signup sheet for those interested in getting more information. If enough families are interested we will announce the results and let the families know when a program might begin. 5 Volume 62, Number 38, Page 5 Saints of the Week Mon., September 19: Saint Januarius, Bishop, Marty: d. c. 305; according to his legend, thrown to bears at Pozzulolo under Diocletian; bishop of Benevento; as early as 1389, his blood has liquefied on this and other days each year; patron of Naples. Tues., September 20: Saints Andrew Kim Tae-gon, Priest, and Paul Chong Ha-sang, and Companions, Martyrs: Andrew, born in Seoul, Korea, was a convert to the faith and was ordained Korea s first native priest. His father was a martyr. In 1846 Andrew was tortured and beheaded along with his lay associate, seminarian Paul Chong Ha-sang. Between 1839 and 18677, 103 martyrs gave their lives for the faith in Korea. Wed., September 21: SAINT MATTHEW, APOSTLE AND EVAN- GELIST: According to the bishop Papias (c. 125), the Church s canonical text of Matthew draws upon the Aramaic traditions associated with his name. Composed c. 85, the gospel is generally arranged in an alternating pattern of narrative and discourse. Intended for a largely Jewish- Christian audience, it seeks to portray Christianity as consistent with the Jewish tradition and a continuation of it. Tradition holds that Matthew preached in Judea and in Ethiopia where he was martyred; symbolized by the winged human being; mentioned in the Roman Canon; patron of accountants and customs officers. Fri., September 23: Saint Pius of Pietrelcina, Priest: Padre Pio was born Francesco Porgione in 1887 in the small Italian village of Pietrelcina. A Capuchin priest who had received the stigmata, he spent fifty years at the monastery of San Giovanni Rotondo, where he was much sought after as a spiritual advisor, confessor, and intercessor. Despite such notoriety, he would often say, I only want to be a poor friar who prays. His life was devoted to the Eucharist and to prayer. He died 23 September 1968 at age eighty-one. Pope John Paul II announced the inclusion of his Memorial in the General Roman Calendar in June, He is considered the patron saint of civil defense volunteers and Catholic adolescents. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster.
