Our daily problems and worries can wrap us up in ourselves, in sadness and bitterness...and that is where death is. That is not the place to look for the One who is alive! Let the risen Jesus enter your life. Welcome his as a friend, with trust: he is life! If up till now you have kept him at a distance, step forward. Tuesday Jesus Is with You He will receive you with open arms. If you have been indifferent, take risk: you won t be disappointed. If following him seems difficult, don t be afraid. Trust him, be confident that he is close to you. He is with you, and he will give you the peace you are looking for and the strength to live as he would have you do. Wednesday God Is with All of Creation It was the very closeness of God that moved Francis to the depths of his being. He was no longer alone. God was with him and with the whole world. God was in him and God was in every creature, and all was blessing. Daily Reflection Thursday Learn to Say, I m Sorry Let us learn to acknowledge our mistakes and to ask for forgiveness: Forgive me if today I raised my voice. I m sorry if I passed without greeting you. Excuse me if I was late...if this week I was very silent...if I spoke too much without ever listening. Excuse me; I forgot. I m sorry I was angry and I took it out on you....don t let a day end without asking forgiveness, without peace returning to our home, to our family. Friday Prayer Is a Mystery Prayer is almost as much a mystery as God. Prayer always seems to be more than the words we use to describe it or the ways in which we understand it. Prayer is as old as the human family, stretching all the way back to the fall of Adam and Eve. Prior to disobeying God, our first parents lived in friendship with him. The intimacy they shared precluded the need for prayer. Their sin, however, produced a chasm between themselves and God. Saturday Prayer Is a Mystery Because God created them to share his life, the desire for him not only remained, it also intensified. St. Augustine describes this as a restlessness within the human heart that can only be satisfied by resting in God. We can say, therefore, that prayer is the action that enables communication between that which is human and that which is divine. 3 Volume 64, Number 42, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, How does that fall weather feel? I cannot believe it has gotten any cooler! Speaking of weather, I do invite you to pray for all those in Florida and in neighboring states who experienced the devastation of Hurricane Michael. We pray for reparation from all damage, and we pray for the souls who lose their lives in this storm. In times of tragedy, we turn to God. Luckily, our Catechism lesson continues to focus on who God is. We are now getting into the part of the Creed that addresses the First Person of the Trinity: God the Father. But before we can get to that Person, we have to understand what the Trinity itself is, for God is Trinity. God is One, but at the same time, He is Three Persons: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As we will see throughout this part, the language used to explain the Trinity can become very complex and hard to follow. These first set of paragraphs, though, do a good job of giving the basics on what the Trinity means, especially its importance. For you see, as paragraph 234 lays out, the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian life. This is the central mystery because it is the mystery of God Himself. The Trinity is God s inner life, and everything else we know about the Faith comes from the outpouring of this inner life onto the world. Our own lives are owed to the working of the Trinity. This is a good thing as it means that because we owe our lives to Him, we have to focus our lives on God. This is especially true for us as Christians, for when we are baptized, we are baptized in the name of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Spirit! The Trinity gives us the life of grace! May we thus live for the Trinity in order to one day be with the Trinity! Paragraph 2. The Father 1. In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit #232 Christians are baptized "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" Before receiving the sacrament, they respond to a three-part question when asked to confess the Father, the Son and the Spirit: "I do." "The faith of all Christians rests on the Trinity." #233 Christians are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: not in their names, for there is only one God, the almighty Father, his only Son and the Holy Spirit: the Most Holy Trinity. #234 The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential teaching in the "hierarchy of the truths of faith". The whole history of salvation is identical with the history of the way and the means by which the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, reveals himself to men "and reconciles and unites with himself those who turn away from sin". #235 This paragraph expounds briefly (I) how the mystery of the Blessed Trinity was revealed, (II) how the Church has articulated the doctrine of the faith regarding this mystery, and (III) how, by the divine missions of the Son and the Holy Spirit, God the Father fulfills the "plan of his loving goodness" of creation, redemption and sanctification. #236 The Fathers of the Church distinguish between theology (theologia) and economy (oikonomia). "Theology" refers to the mystery of God's inmost life within the Blessed Trinity and "economy" to all the works by which God reveals himself and communicates his life. Through the oikonomia the theologia is revealed to us; but conversely, the theologia illuminates the whole oikonomia. God's works reveal who he is in himself; the mystery of his inmost being enlightens our understanding of all his works. So it is, analogously, among human persons. A person discloses himself in his actions, and the better we know a person, the better we understand his actions. #237 The Trinity is a mystery of faith in the strict sense, one of the "mysteries that are hidden in God, which can never be known unless they are revealed by God". To be sure, God has left traces of his Trinitarian being in his work of creation and in his Revelation throughout the Old Testament. But his inmost Being as Holy Trinity is a mystery that is inaccessible to reason alone or even to Israel's faith before the Incarnation of God's Son and the sending of the Holy Spirit. Diocese of Lafayette: Centennial News A Retreat Center Emerges In the early 1930s, despite the Great Depression, Bishop Jeanmard set out to establish a new retreat center in the Diocese that could be used for laity and clergy alike. For one hundred years, the Jesuits had resided on the peaceful grounds of Grand Coteau. It was there that Bishop Jeanmard was able to erect a retreat house under the title of Our Lady of the Oaks. The retreat center was built on the grounds of St. Charles College in a distinct Spanish-mission style. The first retreat was held there in October 1938, with Bishop Jeanmard leading the retreat. It continues to serve hundreds of retreatants every year. Youth are Invited Centennial Fest we will have a Youth Gathering at Parc International Downtown Lafayette on Saturday, October 20 th from 3pm to 8pm and will include Music, Guest Speakers, Mass, Food and closing with a Candlelight Eucharistic Adoration with Bishop Deshotel. Our Youth, All Youth Groups, Families, Clergy and Religious are all invited. Please plan to attend this wonderful faith filled event. This will be a great opportunity to see the Life of Our Faith.
