It is also a theological virtue. Unlike a natural virtue with which one is born, hope is a grace from God that helps one trust there is life beyond the funeral, the loss of treasured possessions, or the rights and privileges one is denied. 12:05 pm 12:05 pm 12:05 pm 8:00 am 8:00 am Tuesday Hope Is a Grace from God It sometimes strikes like lightning in silent moments of prayer and emboldens one to walk through the fiery furnace with a confidence and assurance never before experienced. At other times, it is planted in the cracks of broken dreams and cultivated over a period of time by the words, presence and actions of others. Jo Ed LeBlanc & Nezat & LeBlanc family, Harold Smith and Effie Ardoin Wednesday Prayer Will Change Us Those who seek God along the path of Franciscan prayer are to be transformed by the one they seek, the one they claim to love. Prayer centered on relationship with Christ, the Word of God incarnate, cannot help but change the life of the believer and the way one lives. Those who enter into Franciscan prayer, therefore, must be ready for change Daily Reflection Thursday Prayer Will Change Us They each must be willing to become another Christ, for this is where the path of prayer leads, to a new birth of Christ in the lives of the believers. Friday Discover the Wonder of Play One of the most valuable seeds of life is the seed of play! But it is also the most neglected. Play includes all the things that energize life. This is the seed of the senses. Through our magnificent body we experience the world and things that delight us. We know God created the universe with pure brilliance! God breathed life into creatures, and the result is marvelous. How often do we spend time in pure delight with one another and creation, devoid of any agenda? Play is invigorating, affirming and results in a heart of thanksgiving and song. Saturday Do We Notice God s Work in Us? The spirit of the Lord acts on us without force or violence. The subtly of God can be frustrating for those of us that want to be transformed in an instant. Yet faith assures us that God is at work in those who believe. As long as we make time for God, then his work within us will continue unto the day of Christ Jesus. Schedule of Liturgical Ministers for this Weekend (August 25th & August 26th) Saturday, August 25th, :00 pm Mass EMHC: Reader: Betty Artigue Altar Servers: Hunter Ray & Cierra Collins Schedule of Liturgical Ministers for next Weekend (September 1st & September 2nd) Saturday, September 1st, :00 pm Mass EMHC: Reader: Keith Ardoin Altar Servers: Hunter Ray & Cierra Collins "Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the Living Heart of each of our parishes," Pope Paul VI Sunday Sow Seeds of Peace for Others When we pray the Peace Prayer, we imagine ourselves as farmers of the world. Like our Divine Master, we look beyond the pain inflicted upon me and refuse to strike back in violence. Indeed, we beat the swords of our hearts into plowshares and the spears of our souls into pruning hooks. We then ask for the grace to actively sow the seeds of peace for others. As faithful servants tilling the earth. 3 Volume 64, Number 35, Page 3 ~ From the Pastor ~ God our Savior desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Sorry I am out this week. Even while I am away, I am keeping you in my prayers. I hope you are enjoying Fr. Jacek s visit to our parish. As I mentioned last weekend, I ask you to be open to his message and be supportive of his mission. Even while I am away, we can still continue with our Catechism lesson! We are still looking at God, who is the first focus in the Creed. Last week, we looked at how God is not a distant god, but a personal one. This weekend s lesson emphasizes this, for as we learn in Exodus 3:13-15, God has a name: I AM WHO AM. In Hebrew, it is written out as YHWH (also written as Yahweh). This name is referred to as the Tetragrammaton, a Greek word that means consisting of four letters. This, of course, refers to God s name, YHWH, being spelled with four letters. The reason God s name is spelled like this is because the name was so sacred, it could not be written down. Nor could it be casually uttered by anyone when anyone said God s name, they word have to say the word Lord instead (in Hebrew, Adonai ). This understanding leads to the 2 nd Commandment to not say God s name in vain. Now what does the name itself mean I AM WHO AM? It expresses God s nature, which is Being. God is pure being because He is uncreated and absolute. He is the Creator, while we are creatures. By this name explaining His nature, God shows Himself to be infinite, yet simple. He is simply He who is. However, His name also shows, as I said above, that He is a personal God. How so? Well, once you know someone s name, don t you really start to know who they are? The name is the core of one s identity. So when God reveals His name, He s revealing Himself. He wants to be known. He wants us to know Him. Will you, then, seek to know the God who wants to be known? Paragraph 1. I Believe in God II. God Reveals His Name (Part Two) I Am who I Am Moses said to God, "If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you', and they ask me, 'What is his name?' what shall I say to them?" God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you'... this is my name for ever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations." (Ex 3:13-15) #206 In revealing his mysterious name, YHWH ("I AM HE WHO IS", "I AM WHO AM" or "I AM WHO I AM"), God says who he is and by what name he is to be called. This divine name is mysterious just as God is mystery. It is at once a name revealed and something like the refusal of a name, and hence it better expresses God as what he is - infinitely above everything that we can understand or say: he is the "hidden God", his name is ineffable, and he is the God who makes himself close to men. 11 #207 By revealing his name God at the same time reveals his faithfulness which is from everlasting to everlasting, valid for the past ("I am the God of your father"), as for the future ("I will be with you"). 12 God, who reveals his name as "I AM", reveals himself as the God who is always there, present to his people in order to save them. #208 Faced with God's fascinating and mysterious presence, man discovers his own insignificance. Before the burning bush, Moses takes off his sandals and veils his face in the presence of God's holiness. 13 Before the glory of the thrice-holy God, Isaiah cries out: "Woe is me! I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips." 14 Before the divine signs wrought by Jesus, Peter exclaims: "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." 15 But because God is holy, he can forgive the man who realizes that he is a sinner before him: "I will not execute my fierce anger... for I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst." 16 The apostle John says likewise: "We shall... reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything." 17 #209 Out of respect for the holiness of God, the people of Israel do not pronounce his name. In the reading of Sacred Scripture, the revealed name (YHWH) is replaced by the divine title "LORD" (in Hebrew Adonai, in Greek Kyrios). It is under this title that the divinity of Jesus will be acclaimed: "Jesus is LORD." Let us praise the Lord, and give Him thanks! In Christ the Lord, Fr. Meeting every Wed. at 4:00 pm in the church hall. For details, contact Sidney Bennett at PRAYER FOR PROTECTION DURING HURRICANE SEASON O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed Your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem, where a stormless eternity awaits us. Amen. [Composed by Most Rev. Maurice Schexnayder ( ),Second Bishop of Lafayette ( ) in 1957]

Thanks. Diocese of Lafayette: Centennial News Josephites come to Acadiana In August of 1920, through the invitation of Bishop Jeanmard, the Josephites sent Fr. Thomas Duffy S.S.J. to take residence in Crowley at the newly established St. Theresa of Avila Church for ministry to African-Americans. The Josephites were founded in 1892 as a congregation of priests and brothers committed to serving the African American community. Bishop Jeanmard would rely heavily on the Josephites to staff newly created Black Parishes throughout the diocese. The first Josephite came to Acadiana in 1897, when Archbishop Janssens established the parish of Immaculate Conception in the rural mission of Petit Prairie, later renamed LeBeau after the Josephite priest Fr. Pierre LeBeau. Centennial Canada Pilgrimage please pray for the 75 pilgrims who will be on pilgrimage with Bishop Deshotel this week exploring our Acadian History and honoring our Diocesan Centennial Year. All Catholics of the Diocese are being remembered and prayed for by the pilgrims and Bishop Deshotel as they visit the homeland of the Acadians and their place of exile which led many to come to what is now the Diocese of Lafayette. In remembering our past, we pray for our present and future knowing that the story of our faith is still being written. Happy Birthday!
