2 WOMEN S CLUB NEWS The Women s Club will attend 8:00 Mass, in a group, on November 6th. Please gather in the Social Hall by 7:30. We will host hospitality Sunday and help will be appreciated. The meeting will be held November 7th at 7:00. The speaker for the evening is a representative from Catholic Charities who will enlighten us on the services they offer to the needy. All women of the Parish are invited to join us for the evening. Thank you for your baked donations and support for the Bake Sale. 3 We have a very busy week ahead of us. On November 1st we will celebrate All Saints Day with 8 AM and 7 Pm Masses. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. On November 2nd the church celebrates All Souls Day. In addition to our regular 8 AM Mass we will have a 7 PM Memorial Mass. You can read more on the bottom of this page. We have adjusted the schedule for our early church history class and moved the classes for this week to Thursday, November 3rd. You should have received your tickets for our annual Turkey Shoot Raffle by now in the mail. You may return them in the collection basket, mail them back or drop them off in the Parish Office. Even though we have had a warm fall we would love to see all the feathers on our turkey. There are more tickets available in the parish office. Please consider taking extra tickets and selling them among your relatives and friends. Starting this week you will be able to hear the new bells. We have installed the new pole, wiring and system and they are working beautifully. I would like to hear your feedback, especially if you are a close neighbor to the church regarding the quality and volume of the bells. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour before going to bed next Saturday, November 5th. I would like to wish all of you a Happy and safe Halloween. Have a good week, Fr. Karol All Souls Day Celebration On Wednesday, November 2nd, the church celebrates the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. There will be 7:00 p.m. Mass in our church in memory of our faithful departed. The memorial service will take place immediately following the homily of the Mass. At that time, the names of parishioners and those buried from St. John Church since November 1, 2015 will be read. Upon your arrival for Mass on All Souls Day you will receive a candle having the name of your deceased loved one. As the name of your loved one is read during the memorial service, you and your family will bring the candle up to the front to be lit, and placed in front of the altar. If you would also like to have a photo of your loved one placed in the sacred space during November, you may bring the photo ahead of time to our office. Please be sure to put the name on the back. You may also bring the photo as you come to the service on November 2nd. We invite you, your family, and anyone who wishes, to please join us in praying for and remembering our deceased loved ones. While we no longer experience their physical presence with us, our faith tells us we will one day be reunited. Life has changed for them, their earthly journey is completed, and they are at peace. The Chicago Cubs are in the World Series, leaves are turning gorgeous colors, children are back in school, pumpkins are appearing slowly and the days and nights are getting cooler. BUBBA is out of hiding and in Saint John s vestibule. He is looking for his feathers, so once again it is time to get ready for turkey shoot season and to feather that bird. BUBBA is hoping to earn all 15 of his feathers, each valued at $1,000, for a plume of $ In his lifetime, BUBBA, has never reached his goal. His fervent hope is to become fully feathered this season. Please do whatever you can to help him reach his goal. Prizes will remain the same. First prize is $1,000, Second prize is $500, Third prize is $250, and there are 5 prizes of $100 each. Winning tickets will be drawn, in the Social Hall, Sunday, November 20th after 10:00 Mass. Tickets are still a great bargain, $10 each or 3 for $25. Since this is our only Parish wide fundraiser, each family is asked to buy or sell $50 worth of tickets, if their circumstances permit. This is an ideal time to approach all the people whose causes you support throughout the year. Additional tickets can be obtained from the Parish Office. Thank you for your consistent support of your Parish. Tickets will be mailed out shortly. In the past, we have had some parishioners who did not receive their tickets. If you do not receive your tickets by October 31st, please contact Eileen or Karen at the Parish Office. They are available Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you don t get answer they are assisting other parishioners.

YEAR OF MERCY INSPIRED TOUR AT THE ART INSTITUTE The Archdiocese of Chicago is very pleased to invite you to participate in the Year of Mercy Art Tour created in partnership with the Art Institute of Chicago. The tour will run from October through December This tour includes seven works of art which will pull you through the Art Institute and two millennia. These works reflect the seven Spiritual Works of Mercy those acts of compassion we offer to help our neighbors with their spiritual and emotional needs. It is our hope that these beautiful works of art will allow those who attend to encounter the living Christ and experience God s mercy. This is especially striking in English Catholic history, as freedom of worship was systematically dismantled at the time of the Reformation. It seems that most English people retained deeply Catholic sympathies throughout the period of religious upheaval. Catholics who refused to participate in the public worship of the Church of England were called recusants, and beginning with the reign of Elizabeth I, they were subject to strict penalties. Recusant literally means a person refusing to obey a command. Most of those laws were in force until the early 1800s, and Catholics were not entirely emancipated from the duty of Anglican worship until Recusants paid heavy fines for not attending the state church. Holding on to Catholic faith was therefore a luxury of the very rich, who maintained private chapels, and sent their daughters and sons to English convents and monastery schools on the continent. Remarkably, the first among all British peers, the Dukes of Norfolk, the hereditary Earls Marshal of England, have never given up their Catholic faith. Many of these wealthy recusant families founded the colony of Maryland, and later many members of the old Catholic families continued on to the Kentucky frontier in search of greater religious freedom.
