3 Dear Parishioners of St. John, Our hearts turn to all of those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Our first response is to pray for those who lost their lives and their families and for those whose livelihoods have been lost. We have an opportunity to help those affected by giving to Hurricane Harvey Emergency Appeal. Next weekend, September 9th and 10th, we will have a second collection for Catholic Charities, USA, the official domestic relief agency of the US Catholic Church. Catholic Charity USA is committed to the long term commitment of the area and they provide this service to the community regardless of religion, social or economic background. This Wednesday, September 6th at 6:30 p.m. we will have a meeting of the Outreach Group. Members of the group have been helping with the Cuba initiative in the past. They will seek ways for our church to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. If you have someone in your family or know someone personally affected by the hurricane, please contact Jim Adduci, who leads the group. Also on September 9th and 10th, we will have registration for our Youth Group after all the Masses. Youths from grades 7th to 12th are welcome to join us for a year of wonder, discovery, caring, learning and so much more. Open your eyes to a whole new world. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the Blue Room. It s A Wonderful Life play will be on December 2, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Theatre at the Center. Sometimes there are direct quotes, such as, those taken from the prophet Isaiah; other times there are references to people or events. Jesus is the new Adam or the new Moses. The rites of blessing the water at Baptism and on the Easter Vigil contain many references to the images of water in the Old Testament. Many early Christian writers, including the writers of the book of the New Testament, refer to passages in the Old Testament that shed light on Jesus as The Messiah. So, to fully understand the New Testament, our liturgy, and our faith, a foundation in the contents of the Old Testament is recommended. It takes a long time to study all the detail in this history, so we are providing the opportunity to survey the history over a short period of time. An introduction to the Old Testament will begin on Wednesday, September 6 th, continue over four more weeks, and end on October 4 th. Participants will have the choice of attending the morning sessions (9:00-10:00) or the evening sessions (7:00-8:00). Later in the Fall, a corresponding introduction to the New Testament will be offered. Information will be available in the church vestibule after all masses. THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP! There is only one Priest covering multiple Churches, encompassing a large area, and therefore, the parishioners cannot attend Mass every Sunday. The Priest has requested donations of rosaries and medals that you are no longer using. He gives them to his parishioners when he anoints the Sick.No statues or prayer books are needed. All women of the Parish, 18 years and older, are welcome to attend!

Household items, tools, electronics, jewelry, toys, holiday decorations and other miscellaneous treasures are needed for this event. This is a great opportunity clean your basements, closets and entire house and part will all those items you don t need or want anymore. Donations may be placed at the West end of the Social Hall beginning August 27th. Thank you for your generous support. No TVs or Christmas trees will be accepted. Approximately 90% of monies earned are turned over to the Parish at the end of the year.
