We have just celebrated two of them, Advent and Christmas. In a few weeks, we will begin the season of Lent. Lent ends with the me of Triduum and then, Easter season begins. Most of our year, however, is spent in Ordinary Time. The word ordinary has the La n root word that means counted. We count the number of Sundays between the great seasons of the church year. Today, is the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time because it begins the second week. There are six more Sundays in Ordinary Time before Lent begins on March 1. The next group of Ordinary Sundays begins on June 25 and ends on November 19. The color of Ordinary Time is green, so today the priest wears a green chasuble, the outer vestment he wears during Mass. The Preserva on Guild for Old Saint Paul Church is pleased to announce a Concert of Organ Music to con nue the mul -year celebra on of the 175 th Anniversary of Old Saint Paul Church. The church was opened in 1841 and dedicated in The Diocesan Director of Sacred Music, Michael J Accurso, D.M.A., will perform on the newly donated Halyak Organ at Old Saint Paul. The Halyak Organ will be blessed for Sacred Performance during the Concert. Dr. Accurso also holds the posi on of Liturgical Director of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral and added his significant contribu on to the Cathedral Dedica on this past July. More informa on on the Concert and about Dr. Accurso will be in the bulle n in coming weeks. The Knights of Columbus sponsors a Two Day Blood Drive for the Red Cross at 1125 Pine Tree Drive six mes a year. 5 January 14, 2018 Dear Friends at Saint Paul: The snow overstayed its welcome! There were a hardy few at the Saturday 5 pm Mass and increasing numbers in the morning but we were set back by the winter weather. Although I trust that many donors will make up for the collec on that was missed, the calendar adjustments and sharing parish informa on have to get back on track. I want to thank all those who helped on Friday morning to clear walkways and driveways at Church and on Sunday to open school up for Monday's return. Jimmy Stokes worked on Thursday in order to have Mass on Friday morning at Old Saint Paul. Yard Ninja plowed and the following shoveled and chipped and salted ice and snow: Connor Wang, David Wang, Tommy Pi man, Phyllis Willis, John DeGuzman, Jimmy Stokes, and Fr. Schuetz. This weekend's focus is the final chance to buy ckets for the School Reach for the Stars Gala and Winter Ball on Saturday, January 27 th. The Gala has been re-posi oned, both its loca on and its substance, to build on the great success enjoyed over the last few years and to innovate for even greater effect! This year promises to be a gallant affair, with dynamic auc ons, great food and crea ve ways to support the school. There will be lively conversa on, live entertainment and dancing, punctuated by our guest speaker, Bryan Mayer, a Saint Paul alumnus. Please purchase your ckets this weekend: a er Masses or on-line. The Ministry Fair returns to center stage on the weekend upcoming, January 20 and 21, when your copy of the Ministry Catalog will help you to discover more of where God wants you to serve. All proceeds benefit St. Paul Catholic Church. The Church has responded to the needs of those who are gluten-intolerant: low gluten hosts are available at every Mass upon request. Please let an usher or the sacristan know before Mass. (This must be done every me as we do not reserve consecrated low-gluten hosts in the Tabernacle.) A specifically-designated pyx (communion box) is held by the Priest Presider with only low gluten hosts. The communicant needs to be in the Presider's line. The communicant iden fies himself or herself to the Priest Presider as they approach for communion asking for a low gluten host.
