By annually observing the WPCU, Christians move toward the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one." (John 17:21) O God, Your right hand is glorious in power. When her father dies, her life changes forever! She moves in with her tradi onal Jewish rela ves and a ends their Synagogue. From her strong rela onship with her uncle, to mee ng the family Rabbi, to the a en on of the cutest boy in the Synagogue, she learns some life lessons that s r her faith to a new level. January 28th through February 3rd SAINT OF THE WEEK Saint Marianne Cope Saint Marianne Cope, O.S.F. on January 23, 1838 in Heppenheim, a region now part of Germany. Just a year a er her birth, her family emigrated to the United States, se ling in U ca, New York. She pursued a religious life and became a novi ate of the Sisters of the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis based in Syracuse, New York. German-speaking immigrants se led in large numbers in her area of New York State, so she became a teacher and later a principal at a school for immigrant children. Cope also helped direct the opening of the first two Catholic hospitals in central New York. In 1883, she received a plea from King Kalakua to help leprosy sufferers in Hawaii. Mother Marianne, as she was then known, le Syracuse to a end to the sick. Mother Marianne managed a hospital on the island of O'ahu. She was responsible for orphans of women who had contracted the disease as well as clergy who had contracted the disease, while working with lepers. Mother Marianne passed away on August 9, A er her bea fica on by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, Mother Marianne's remains were moved to Syracuse, New York and placed in a shrine. She is the patron saint of lepers, outcasts and those with HIV/AIDS. h p://

5 January 21, 2018 Dear Friends at Saint Paul: Our Ministry Fair is a sure indica on of the high-quality work, eager leadership and wide-ranging interests that our parishioners evidence in caring for others. Thank you to all who serve the needs of family, neighbor, and community. As a paraphrase of one of our church songs has it: This is the me; now is the day. Please volunteer, with a commitment card filled out and turned in. Thank you and God bless you. With regret, I confirm the announcement that the Organ Concert previously set for this Thursday has been postponed. The Preserva on Guild for Old Saint Paul ran into a repair need that may not have been completed in me. It seemed in everyone s best interest to avoid the stress and disappointment by postponing as soon as we were aware of the need. Please look forward to the Organ Dedica on and Concert at a later date. This Thursday, January 25th, is the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul. This is our Parish Feast Day! Please offer a prayer for our parish this Thursday in par cular. Saint Paul, Apostle to the Na ons, Pray for us! There are wonderful programs about to commence that will be begging for our a en on! This is an ac ve, diverse, and inclusive parish with a great spirit. What follows are only the highlights of the many February and March ini a ves for your benefit. Thank you! The first is the School Gala on Saturday, January 27 that this year is the doorway to Catholic Schools Week. We will hear more about Saint Paul Catholic School and all Catholic Schools next weekend. Thank you to all par cipa ng so generously in the successes we enjoy and want to con nue for the future. There is an announcement in this bulle n with informa on about our Pictorial Directory. Please look for that and be part of the visual connec ons that the Pictorial Directory brings. You can make appointments now on your computer for the portraits that will take place in February and March. It is best to plan ahead! The portrait qualifies you for a free 8x10 print and a copy of the Directory when it is finished. Of course, you can also order more prints when you sit for a pic and build the parish community by your par cipa on. Make an appointment now online or look for real person help a er Mass next weekend if you prefer. This Wednesday will be the annual Bishop s Annual Appeal kick-off for our area of the Diocese. Bishop Zarama and an entourage of other Diocesan ministers will be gathering in Jacksonville to support the start of this year s campaign. You will see a mailing arriving at your home soon, with an invita on from our new Bishop, looking for your par cipa on. The Bishop s Annual Appeal will be a parish focus in February and I am confident of an over-the-goal success as we have seen in recent years. The Appeal provides the money needed for the Church to reach EVERY part of our Diocese with love and caring concern. Finally, a great, enthusias c commi ee has been mee ng weekly to bring us a new blessing this year to the whole parish: Neighborhood Masses for Lent. Ash Wednesday is February 14 th this year. There will be about two Masses each week during Lent in many different loca ons in our City and County to bring people together, to pray in a special way as part of the Lenten discipline, and to gather with neighbors and friends in smaller groups to build connec ons between all parishioners. You will be invited to be part of one or more of these gatherings. More details will be shared in upcoming bulle ns; don t miss it! Peace,
