2 WORD OF THE LORD THIS WEEK S ACTIVITIES TOO MUCH INFORMATION! There s a common expression: Too much informa on! We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple ques on, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he o en does, Jesus answers a ques on with a ques on; today it s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been too much informa on for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this informa on, though it can some mes seem too much for us, is essen al for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this informa on. It is in suffering, in weakness, and in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. FALL SPIRITUALITY SERIES: SPIRITUALLY GIFTED Deacon Mahoney will lead fall Spirituality Series on Tuesday, October 23 rd,, from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. in the Conference Room. In this series, he will address the importance of our Spirituality, Spiritual Forma on and Spiritual Direc on on the spiritual journey to God, as we prepare for life in heaven. The study will include a rich discussion of the rela onship between faith and spiritual, physical and mental health and how to understand the role of pain and loss along the way.
