2 WORD OF THE LORD PRECIOUS BLOOD On this solemnity we focus our a en on on the Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlas ng life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. We will process along the streets with the Blessed Sacrament to bless the city. A light breakfast will be served following the procession. Please come join us. Host a Seminarian for Dinner! Saint Paul will be hos ng three seminarians this summer for 8 weeks. Their names are Adam Gale, John Lewis and Ross Williams. We would like to offer an opportunity for our parishioners to get to know them. We are se ng up a schedule for parishioners who would enjoy invi ng a seminarian for dinner while they are here. Their schedule for available mes starts June 10th and will end July 27th. If you would like to invite one of them to dinner, please seminarians@spccnb.org The Pamlico Men's Prison Ministry went to the facility on Pentecost Sunday. A very WARM WELCOME to Craig Blackwell who has joined our ministry group! The Eucharist was received by four men. We read and studied the week s readings and had a SPIRIT filled discussion regarding our rela onships with the Holy Spirit. We covered what Pentecost means, other recognized feast day names for this celebra on (The feast of Weeks, The feast of harvest and Whitsunday), what the feast represents; and a dialogue regarding how the Holy Spirit, a Divine Person, communicates with us. Our Maysville Assistance Center was beyond blessed by your efforts and the generosity of all who gave their me and resources. NC STATE UNIVERSITY, SUMMER CAMP 2018 The Shelton Challenge offers values-based camps to young adults across the na on! To qualify, you must be a 9th-12th grade student with a GPA of 3.0 or be er. 5 June 3, 2018 Dear Friends at Saint Paul: WOW! I love it when it all works! (Don t we all?) The Feast of Pentecost at Saint Paul was a real winner! The parish was heroic in its response to the Stuf-a-Truk campaign. New Bern s Religious Community Services (RCS) Food Pantry dona ons weighed in at just under 3000 pounds WAIT, that s only ONE direc on that we went in There s also Maysville, Washington and Kinston with two pickup trucks FULL EACH! I es mate that those pickup trucks had 750 pounds each for a total of 7500 pounds or almost four tons of food, paper products and personal hygiene items. YOU the people of Saint Paul Parish -- made that happen in just a week! Thank you! There will be hundreds and hundreds fed because of you and the good work of our region s food pantries. See the messages in other parts of this bulle n. Then, Pentecost Sunday a ernoon, we held the Parish-wide Town Hall Mee ng whose first order of business was the prayer for the elec on of the new members of the Pastoral Council. Seeking God s guidance and trus ng in God s providence, we then drew forth the three names we needed: Daniel Denis, Sharon Warren, and, for a second term, Judi Williams. May God richly bless them in their service to the whole Parish, but especially to your Pastor, myself, over the next three years. Thank you to each of those who accepted their nomina ons to the Pastoral Council and were not chosen I know you will serve God in his parish in the future. Thank you also to the outgoing members of the Pastoral Council who now have completed their three-year term: Catherine Ewan and Phil Pritulsky. I know that Catherine and Phil will con nue to be generous in their service to the parish and their help offered to me. The Sunday a ernoon mee ng con nued, a er a brief talk I gave on the Catholic understanding of discernment as a process of listening, subsidiarity and collegiality. (I thought it was brief and good) :) These are wonderful ideas from our Church s teaching on the nature and func on of governance. Maybe I ll give that talk again in the future! The group then entered into two comparison and feedback exercises which provided individual and small group ra ngs of many different plans and ideas, both short-term and long-term, for us to undertake as a parish. These tools provide a way of discerning how to make investments in the future of the parish, in ac vi es, facili es, priori es, staffing, and more! In the coming weeks, the Finance Council and the Pastoral Council and myself-- will learn from our discussions and from the concrete results provided. The Parish Plan dra will be provided to you through the bulle n, for your informa on, for your feedback, and especially, for your prayer. The Pentecost success con nued with a mee ng during the week of the School Board, having now go en off to a running start as the academic schedule nears its end. The School Board received the report of the Marke ng and Enrollment Commi ee which offered exci ng ini a ves for publicity for our School. The Gala report was posi ve and gra fying. The Budget for the next School year shows con nued strong growth and a reliable financial picture. The enrollment projec ons show an 8 % growth in the number of students but Deacon Kierski thinks the school will be er that projec on. A great school board mee ng! A specifically-designated pyx (communion box) is held by the Priest Presider with only low gluten hosts. The communicant needs to be in the Presider's line. The communicant iden fies himself or herself to the Priest Presider as they approach for communion asking for a low gluten host. GIVING HAS GOTTEN EASIER! Online Envelope Giving is available for parishioners through Our Sunday Visitor, our envelope company. You can give automa cally weekly, monthly, etc. No need for remembering to write a check each week or remembering to bring your envelopes to church each Sunday!
