4 SAINT PAUL CATHOLIC SCHOOL The students of Saint Paul Catholic School have been working diligently to raise money to help sponsor the placement of a statue of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at the newly built cathedral in Raleigh. They have donated their pocket change, gathered donations in carpool line, had an ice cream Sunday party, and "dress out of uniform days" for a cost, but they are still short of their goal. If you would like to help out, donations are still being accepted at the school or place your donation in the black drop box in the atrium all week and after Masses. We thank you for your support. Quote: Elizabeth Seton told her sisters, The first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner he wills it; and thirdly, to do it because it is his will. Mother Seton is one of the keystones of the American Catholic Church. She founded the first American religious community for women, the Sisters of Charity. She opened the first American parish school and established the first American Catholic orphanage. All this she did in the span of 46 years while raising her five children. 5 SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT February 21, 2016 FULLNESS OF LIFE God of the covenant, in the Transfiguration you revealed Jesus as your beloved Son. Help us to see the glory of your Son and Forever be in awe of his presence. Grant that during our Lenten journey, our hearts be filled with the light of your Son so that we might remain steadfast on the path of discipleship we committed to in Baptism. Help us to empty ourselves and embrace your Passion so that, on the day of Resurrection, we may joyfully share in the fullness of life. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen. Today s Readings: Genesis 5-12, 17018; Psalm 27:1-14; Philippians 3:17-4:1; Luke 9:26b-28. Let us pray quietly with the Gospel. What image stays with you? I was captured by the words dazzling white. Placing myself in the story, I wondered what it would be like to go with Jesus to this place. The words, dazzling white brought to mind the white garment at Baptism and how when we come out of the waters of rebirth, after having died with Christ, we are clothed in dazzling white, a sign of our resurrection with Him. Baptism isn t just a ritual we enact but a covenant with God, a covenant that demands our faithfulness in our actions. We must come down from the mountain and journey with Christ to serve His people. Baptism changes us and redefines our relationship with God. During Lent, the whole Church walks with those preparing for Baptism. As we journey, each of us is asked once again to die to self and be open to the Light of Salvation. This Lenten journey will prepare us to renew our covenant at the Easter Vigil so we might recommit ourselves to the covenant we made in Baptism and faithfully do Christ s works. THIS WEEK AT HOME Monday, Feb. 22nd 1 Peter 5:1-4; Psalm 23:1-6; Matthew 16: Peter confessed that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God; Jesus chose Peter to shepherd the Church. In what ways have you confessed in your life that Jesus is the Son of God? Tuesday, Feb. 23rd Isaiah 1:10, 16-10; Psalm , 16-17, 21, 23; Matthew 23:1-12. The gospel tells us practice what you preach. When we set aside our sinful ways and allow the peace of Christ to rule our hearts, we strive to live generously. Wednesday, Feb. 24th Jeremiah 18:18-20; Psalm 31:5-6, 14-16; Matthew 20: Jesus reveals his imminent passion and death. Each time we approach the Eucharistic table & drink from the cup of salvation, we say yes to suffering with Christ as well as living the joy of the Resurrection. Christ calls us to offer ourselves up in service to others. Thursday, Feb. 25th Jeremiah 17:5-10; Psalm 1:1-4, 6; Luke 16: We are challenged to reflect on our actions and our relationship with Jesus. We are called to repent and hope in the Lord. This Lent, let us say YES to Christ and live our lives as He lived his. Friday, Feb. 26th Genesis 37:3-4,12-13,17-28; Psalm 105:16-21; Matthew 21-:33-43, When we respond positively and actively to God s Word, we bear good fruit, but when we get caught up in our passions, we die. Saturday, Feb. 27th Micah 7:14-15,18-20; Psalm 103:1-4,9-12; Luke 15:1-3, Today s gospel reminds us that God will always welcome us home, no matter how serious our sin. God s Love and Mercy are always available to us. Are we like the Father and willing to show mercy to others? Even when we fail God, He does not fail us. He knows our frailty and has mercy when we come to him seeking forgiveness and wanting to change our ways. Mercy never holds grudges or seeks revenge, but it wants the best for forgiven sinners. So our Lord calls us to make changes that show we appreciate what he has done for us.
