The Bishop s Annual Appeal (BAA) is the combined effort of all parishes and parishioners in the Diocese of Raleigh to provide this outreach. With the help of God, our combined efforts can have a tremendous impact in responding to those who depend on our help. Bishop s Annual Appeal supports the NC Catholics magazine delivered to over 80,000 homes six mes a year to spread the good news in the Diocese of Raleigh. Sixty years ago, Bishop Vincent S. Waters founded the Carolina Catholic to help him connect with a flock that was spread throughout the 100-county state and to help him reach his ambi ous goal to make every North Carolinian a Roman Catholic. Today, our Bishop s Annual Appeal supports the NC Catholics magazine!

Actually, bea tudes occur throughout the prophets and Gospels. Today in Jeremiah (with an echo in the psalm) we hear, Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7). Following his resurrec on in John s Gospel, Christ proclaims, Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed (John 20:29). The evangelists placed these sayings throughout the Gospels as short reminders about the characteris cs that one will find in a follower of Christ, characteris cs that will help spread the Good News in this life and lead to eternal blessings in the next. In La n, the saints are called the Bea, the Blessed, for they are the ones who lived the blessed life as described by Jesus throughout the Gospels. Our neighbors impacted by natural disasters need assistance as they repair their homes, find affordable housing and replace necessi es such as clothing, furniture and household goods.

More than 25 seminarians from our diocese are studying to become priests and serve the sacramental needs of Catholic parishes.

Recovery is an ongoing effort. Through Mass, prayer, retreats, service and forma on, the faithful may deepen their rela onship with God and grow spiritually. More than 25 seminarians from our diocese are studying to become priests and serve the sacramental needs of Catholic parishes. When hope is renewed, women religious, brothers, clergy and the laity show the true light of Christ in their communi es of faith, and beyond. The hurricane is one of the many challenges we faced this year. I say to my brother priests that one of our biggest challenges is not to lose hope to not let the people lose hope. We must renew people s faith through forma on. Teach people how to love Jesus, teach seminarians to serve through the sacraments.
