3 PASTOR S CORNER Sunday March 6, 2016 Thanks so much to the many parish households who have declared their support for the Ministries and great works of mercy, education and evangelization that is supported by the Bishop's Annual Appeal. YOU can take a stand and be a participant in these works of our Church for the benefit of ourselves and others! YOU can help the Catholic "message" in eastern North Carolina be a message of compassion, outreach and long-term, steady social involvement. Please, if you have not yet made a pledge to the Bishop's Annual Appeal, act now to be included in our great inter-parish effort to fund ministry in If you have already given a gift, but are now able to contribute an additional amount, please pick up one the envelopes in church and increase your giving. We will not only make our goal, we will exceed it! Every penny over the goal becomes available for the same effort on a parish basis. Do not hesitate to give, or increase your gift. Thank you! Father Tully EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Wednesday, March 9th (Mid-Lent) 6:45PM to 8:15PM Thursday, (Every Week) 8:45AM to 11:45AM As a special request from "workin' folks" we will add a mid-lent Wednesday evening for silent prayer in the Main church in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament and conclude with Benediction. Can you make yourself available for Mass, or prayer, or Benediction this Wednesday, March 9th? You could start with Confessions at 5pm, then Mass at 6 pm. Mass will conclude with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (placed in a Monstrance on the Altar) at 6:45pm and conclude with the special formal blessing prayer that is called Benediction at 8:15pm. You can attend all or just part of the evening. Make it a little retreat! Every Thursday, 8:00am Morning Mass ends with Adoration from 8:45am to 11:45am, Benediction follows. For those who are working during the day, this mid-lent special evening Adoration is available this week, Wednesday, March 9th from 6:45 to 8:15pm.

4 CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR THE PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL! Our Parish Finance Council has seats opening on the Council for appointment by the Pastor. Father Tully welcomes inquiries from anyone who may want to serve on the Finance Council. The council requires wisdom in giving advice to the Pastor for the physical goods of the parish: money, of course, but also, financial planning, building costs and their maintenance, investments and personnel, prioritization of expenditures and long range financial discernment. Members are appointed for three year terms, typically renewable once. It is best to have a mix of skills and backgrounds for these tasks, not only financial analysts, accountants and business managers. Please give thought and prayer to placing an inquiry with Father Tully (pastor@spccnb.org). JUNIOR CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS The JCDA would like to thank the Parishioners of Saint Paul for your support during their annual Souper Bowl Sunday Collection. Because of your generosity, the girls were able to donate to two worthy charities: RCS and Costal Women's Shelter. The Juniors meet on the second Monday of the month at 3:00PM in the FCL.. Come and help the girl Serve the Lord With Gladness! ALTAR SERVERS Parish ministries are not only for adults; our children can also serve our Lord and our parish by becoming altar servers. We welcome any child in the 4th grade or older to join this meaningful, helpful, and interactive ministry. This ministry brings our children closer to the Mass, allows them an opportunity to gain confidence and poise in public, grows their leadership and collaboration skills, and builds their awareness of the importance to serve their Church for years to come. The more servers we have, the more flexible a rotation schedule we have! We plan to conduct a training (for rookies and veterans alike) very soon! 5 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT - March 6, 2016 SEEK FORGIVENESS O God, rich in mercy and full of compassion, you give life to your followers. We give you thanks for your abundant care for us. When we sin, we turn from you and dwell in darkness, but you patiently await our return to your arms. Rescue us from the pleasures that lead us astray. Give us courage to seek forgiveness so that we may be welcomed into your household and share in the banquet you have prepared. When we cry out to you, O Lord, you hear us and we rejoice in your mercy. May our sharing in the feast of life lead us to love others generously. Grant that we may always taste the good of the Lord. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Joshua 5:9-12; Psalm 34:2-7; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Luke 15:1-3, The first word that comes to mind in today s readings is abundance. In the first reading, God replaces the manna that nourished the Israelites with the yield of the land of Canaan. In the second reading, the old things have passed away and we are made new creations in Christ. In the Gospel, the Father celebrates the return of his prodigal son. The psalm invites us to taste and see God s goodness in the abundant grace he showers upon us. In the story of the prodigal son, in some ways, we are all like the son who takes his share of the inheritance and leaves to explore the world. After being consumed by sin and approaching the verge of death (physical or spiritual), he returns home. The story invites us to think on God s abundant love and mercy. No matter how far we are from God, He is watching out for us and ready to embrace us. The story calls us to conversion, to repent for the sins that have blinded our judgment. Our reconciliation prepares a place for us at the festive banquet where God s love is overflowing. Take some time each day to place yourself in the story as a different character, notice your reaction and what you might need to pray for as you journey toward Easter. THIS WEEK AT HOME Mon. March 10th Exodus 32:7-14; Psalm 106:19-23; John 5: Think about the idols in your life that keep you from seeing or trusting God. What causes you to turn away from God? Fri. March 11th Wisdom 2:1, 12-22; Psalm ; John 7:1-2,10, Jesus affirms that his authority comes from God. The tone of the gospel begins to turn toward the Passion. You may want to attend the Stations of the Cross this week. Sat. March 12th Jeremiah 11:18-20; Psalm 7:2-3,9-12; John 7: Like Jesus, we too can be pursued or falsely accused; and like the psalmist, we seek refuge with our God.
