In this series, he will address the nature of the spiritual journey in life, especially the value of trials and the power of prayer, through a study of the Le er of James. The study will include a rich discussion of the rela onship between faith and works as it impacts Chris an spirituality. Rooted in a deeper understanding of the Chris an faith and God s great plan for us, we ll be able to get the most out of our Lenten journey and experience with deeper apprecia on the joy of Easter! 4 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 26, 2017 HEALING OUR BLINDNESS Today s Readings: 1 Samuel 16:1-7, 10-13; Psalm 23:1-6; Ephesians 5:8-14; John 9:1-41 The gospel for today tells the story of a man being healed of his blindness. To be released of blindness in our lives is challenging for us. It is so much easier to con nue in blindness than to allow ourselves to be healed. The Lenten season is an opportunity for us to see. Find where you are blind, and seek a way to wash away the blindness. Take some me each day to find where Jesus is poin ng out the path to healing for you. Name your blindness and find way that you can wash it clean. We are reminded that being blind leaves us in the dark, both literally and figura vely, but also that Jesus is our Light. It is Jesus who points out that his path is where our blindness might be washed away so that we may see. O en we are not completely healed in one moment, but the revealing light is gradually revealed to us. Lent provides an opportunity to focus more intently on healing our blindness, and seeing more of the Light. As you go through Lent, pray that your eyes are opened to the Light of the Lord, Jesus. SEE INTO OUR HEARTS Father Almighty, you who have blessed our ancestors and anointed them with the oil of your Spirit; who have given your grace and light to those in need and guided the hands of our leaders in faith. See into our hearts today, and find us ready to receive you, as you guided Samuel to recognize the Lord s chosen. May we open our eyes to see you, and our hearts to accept you, and may we find Christ in others as you guide us. Teach us to know your ways, to follow your path, and to trust in your guidance. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen This Week at Home: Monday, March 27 In today s gospel, John reminds us that we o en recognize the truth, the Christ, or God s grace, only a er the fact. Today, spend me in prayer not only looking forward, but remembering when God s grace was given without no fica on. Slow down and appreciate the presence of Christ in things of beauty. Isaiah 65: 17-21; Psalm 30: 2-6, 11-13; John 4: Tuesday, March 28 The readings speak of abundant water being frui ul and healing. Such is our bap smal water, giving us life, again and again. Our Bap sm con nues to be our source of life, health, faith and spiritual nourishment. Pray that you may be more and more aware of how your bap sm provides you with the renewal of grace each and every day. Ezekiel 47:1-12; Psalm 46: 2-9; John 5:1-16. Wednesday, March 29 Isaiah proclaims a day of salva on that is one of compassion, mercy, pity, and comfort. Lent gives us me to consider the place that compassion and mercy have in our lives. We must comfort others and the Lord comforts us. Seek an opportunity to prac ce compassion and mercy today. Isaiah 49: 8015; Psalm 145: 8-18; John 5: Thursday, March 30 All of today s readings tell us about the faith and strong belief of Moses. Moses belief in God saved the people from destruc on on more than one occasion. Ask our Lord to give you firm faith that you may live your faith with all your strength. Exodus 32:7-14; Psalm 106:19-23; John 5: Friday, March 31 Today s readings tell us that the wicked not only are blinded by their evil ways but that they do not know how to recognize God s holiness in their midst. In our fast paced world, we o en miss holiness as well. Pray that you will let your holiness shine forth to others in your ac ons of kindness and giving. Wisdom 2:1-22; Psalm 34:17-23; John 7:1-2, 10, Saturday, April 1 Today s Gospel speaks to us that some are not open to Christ because they have a preconceived idea of who the Messiah will be. Lent is a me for penitence and introspec on. We need to consider how o en we jump to conclusions about someone without first discovering who they are. We need to hear people s stories and consider their situa ons and experiences, in this way we open ourselves to their goodness. Jeremiah 11:18-20; Psalm 7: 2-12; John 7:40-53.
