6 ABOUT TODAY S WORSHIP Today s Sanctuary Flowers are provided in appreciation of Hayes Barton Baptist Church by Frank Campisi at Fallon s Creative Flowers. DEBT RETIREMENT SUNDAY Our church has set today aside as Debt Retirement Sunday: a time for a report on our debt and to receive a special offering to reduce our debt. This debt was created when we built the Family Life Center (with the Turner Gym, Ledford Welcome Center, portico and connecting corridor) and the Cashwell Handicap Corridor into the sanctuary, and also includes mortgages on our properties on White Oak Road. The original debt of $3,746,344 has, thanks to many of you, been reduced to $2,165,532. All monies collected will reduce the principal, thereby saving our church interest expenses. Remember: no gift too small, no gift too large, everyone participate! ASH WEDNESDAY - DRAWING FAITH INTO OUR DAILY LIVES March 1st is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the season of Lent, during which we symbolically prepare for the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Christians traditionally observe Ash Wednesday by wearing an ashen cross on their foreheads or right hands, symbolizing our need for God s grace. Not only does the cross inform others that we place our faith in Christ; it also invites conversations of faith into our daily routines. You are invited to come, worship and participate at 7:30 AM and 12:00 PM. OBSERVING ASH WEDNESDAY AT HOME This year we will be providing kits to help families create their own Ash Wednesday experiences at home. Each kit will contain an explanation of Ash Wednesday traditions, as well as a brief devotion and ashes for you to use with your family. Kits are available at the Welcome Center. MOVERS AND SHAKERS INFORMATION FAIR: FEBRUARY 28 This month s Movers and Shakers meeting is going to be a different sort of day, and we d love to invite our whole congregation! We are going to have an information fair for Senior Adult services, perfect for senior adults and the children of senior adults. We ll browse the tables, sit down for lunch and fellowship, and then have more time to gather information about vaulable resources for seniors. Please make a reservation through the church office (lunch is $6 per person) and join us! COME TO THE CROSS MARCH 5 Our Lenten Worship Series will be called Come to the Cross. On March 5 we will preview the hymns and anthems that will be featured throughout the series. This service will include beautiful settings of favorite hymns like The Old Rugged Cross, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, Beneath the Cross, Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross and many others. The Hayes Barton Orchestra, organ, and piano will accompany the congregation and choir. Our pastor will present original narrative material that will be both informative and inspiring. Invite someone to join you for this unique and creative worship experience. CONSIGNMENT SALE: REGISTER TO CONSIGN Our Spring Kidzstuff Consignment Sale will be held March this year. Now is the perfect time to sign up to consign, and to register as a volunteer. You can do all that, find some tips and tricks, and find all of the information that you need at HBBC 500--SPONSOR A RACER! Sponsorships are now open for the HBBC 500! You are invited to support your favorite racer (1st-5th graders only) by making a donation to the San Antonio Mission Trip in his or her name. Cash or check donations can be given on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings at the HBBC 500 table outside of the church office. Donations can also be made online. Thank you for supporting the HBBC Youth Group and summer missions! Tickets are also available for the HBBC 500 (March 5 in the Family Life Center) for $15 each... and they even include dinner prepared by our youth families. This action packed evening will have everything from alumni races to dinner!
