1 T First riumph of the Cross Sunday of Advent November 29 & 30, 2008 Office CISTMAS OUTREACH: Giving tree: These are items that have been requested by residents at our various care centers. Please take a tag from the tree, purchase the item, wrap it and place the tag on the outside of wrapped gift and return this on the weekend of Dec. 13/14. Toy Sunday: On the weekend of December 6/7 you are invited to bring a wrapped toy to church. On the outside of the package please place a tag that either gives the name of the toy or a description of whether it is for a boy or girl and what age level. These toys will then be presented to Catholic Charities to distribute to families for their Christmas celebration. Education and Faith Formation Committee: Fruitful discussion occurred at the Nov. 17th meeting. The various components of PSR and the Edge program appear to be off to a good start this year. It will take time to consider the needs of our high school youth and put a long-term program in place. While the committee continues to look at possible options for such a program, a subcommittee was formed to propose interim activities (for high school youth). This includes the possibility of attending a FUS youth conference (as LifeTeen has in the past). We will let you know details as they are finalized. The next meeting is Monday, Dec. 15th at 6:30 p.m. Please, be patient with us and keep our committee and our youth in your prayers. Fr. Nau RESPECT FOR LIFE: Over more than two centuries of our national history, we Americans have been a people who have struggled to widen the circle of those for whom we acknowledge a common responsibility This great trajectory in our national experience that of inclusion has been shattered by Roe v. Wade and its progeny. By denying an entire class of human beings the protection of the laws, we have betrayed the best in our tradition. (Henry Hyde, former U.S. Congressman) CONGRATULATIONS: (CCC 1252) The practice of infant Baptism is an immemorial tradition of the Church. There is explicit testimony to this practice from the second century on, and it is quite possible that, from the beginning of the apostolic preaching, when whole households received baptism, infants may also have been baptized. We continue this practice in our own parish community and pray for our families as they nourish the faith of their children. The gift of baptism was shared with Kolbe Michael Krupp child of Nathaniel & Mary Elizabeth (Coniker) Krupp. CONDOLENCES: (CCC 989) We firmly believe, and hence we hope that, just as Christ is truly risen from the dead the righteous will live for ever with the risen Christ and he will raise them up on the last day. Thus we entrust into the hands of our loving Father all of our beloved dead but especially: Helen Lacko, 99, November 13 and Jenny Afek, 89, November 18 May they have eternal peace with the Lord in heaven. ADVENT MEN S NIGHT: Wise Men Still Seek Him There will be a special Men s Night on Thursday, December 11 th, 7:30 p.m. at the former St. Pius Church, 700 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, Ohio. A talk will be given by Danny Abramowicz. The goal is to inspire men to keep Christ first in Christmas, in their lives, and in their families. There is no admission fee, however, a free will offering will be collected. This is sponsored by the Community of God s Love. Snow Removal: Because we only have one person on our maintenance staff for all the facilities, he may not always be able to have sidewalks and steps cleared before the morning Masses. When we have late night snows or ice conditions, I therefore recommend that you consider not coming to Mass on those mornings if you are afraid to walk in the snow or what might still be iced conditions. Please use good judgment in these situations. Fr. Nau

At the last gathering, a nomination committee was appointed. At the meeting on Tuesday, December 2 nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Marian Room they will present a list of nominees for the various offices. We encourage as many as possible to participate. This is a vital organization in the life of our parish community. SAMARITAN HOUSE: We are in need of Volunteers for working the cash register at Samaritan House. This will help the Sister on duty to take care of clients needing food and clothing. If you are interested in helping out for one hour/week or monthly please call the office( ) or Sr. Della Marie. Her number is We are especially in need of help on Friday afternoons from 12pm 3:30pm. 3 Activities & Fundraisers AIM WOMEN S CENTER BABY BOTTLE PROJECT Thank you to everyone who helped make this a wonderful fundraiser for AIM. If you haven t done so please return your bottles as soon as possible, again thank you. Give gifts and help our parish at the same time! Bishop Mussio Schools run a SCRIP Program that sells gift cards for many restaurants, retailers and services. Cards are available for gas, groceries, and everyday items. You pay face value for the gift card, and the school receives a percentage of the proceeds. You can help the parish help pay its assessment to the school by using SCRIP gifts cards too. When you purchase a card, tell the seller that you want the credit given to #5. A percentage of your purchase will go to help our parish pay our school assessment. It's easy to do, and since you are already spending the money on items such as gas and groceries, why not help the school along the way? BUY SCRIP at these locations: Lover's Lane Campus on Tuesdays from 8-10 A.M. Rosemont Campus Wednesdays 8-10 A.M. and Fridays 8-10 and 1-3 P.M. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: On Sunday December 7th, from 9AM to 12:30PM, the Knights of Columbus # will host a pancake breakfast to benefit the Franciscan University Nursing students Mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
