1 T Feast riumph of the Cross of Christ the King November 22 & 23, 2008 Office CHRISTMAS OUTREACH: As the parish community of Triumph of the Cross, we will be involved in two aspects of Christmas Outreach to those who are in need. First, we will continue the tradition of brightening the lives of those who are in care facilities through the giving tree. Secondly, we know that many like to purchase and wrap toys for the children. This was traditionally done through various organizations. We will work with Catholic Charities in distributing toys to children in our community. As time draws nearer, we will provide you with more information. We have sent letters to the various facilities to obtain the requests of the residents. Help is needed, to prepare the tags for the giving tree, to place the tags on the trees and to help sort gifts after the parishioners have returned them. If you can help, please contact Fr. Nau ( ) We cannot do this without the help of volunteers. ST. STANISLAUS CONVENT: This facility has been sold to the TOR Sisters of Toronto for the amount of $14, How have we used this money? $1, was paid to Catholic Central High School to complete payment of the St. Stanislaus assessment for the school year. $8, was sent to the Diocese of Steubenville to pay the unpaid assessments and insurance from previous years and begin payment on this year s insurance premium. $4, was paid to Triumph of the Cross to reimburse the payments made for previous gas bills, utilities and surveyor costs. Triumph of the Cross has forwarded this money to Bishop John King Mussio Elementary to pay towards our October school assessment. We are delighted that this convent will continue to be used to provide a religious presence and serve the needs of the local community. May the Lord bless the sisters in their ministry to God s people. Fr. Nau RESPECT FOR LIFE: Abortion is the leading cause of death in the black community. People are not aware of that. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control Abortion Surveillance Report, 35% of abortions in the United States are performed on African-American women, who make up 12% of the U.S. population. Beverly Anderson, National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life (The Southern Cross, July, 2008) MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS: At the front entrance of the church / cathedral you will find the volunteer sheets for the various ministries for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. This will be a holy day of obligation. 3 Activities & Fundraisers AIM WOMEN S CENTER BABY BOTTLE PROJECT Thank you to everyone who helped make this a wonderful fundraiser for AIM. If you haven t done so please return your bottles as soon as possible, again thank you. Give gifts and help our parish at the same time! Bishop Mussio Schools run a SCRIP Program that sells gift cards for many restaurants, retailers and services. Cards are available for gas, groceries, and everyday items. You pay face value for the gift card, and the school receives a percentage of the proceeds. You can help the parish help pay its assessment to the school by using SCRIP gifts cards too. When you pruchase a card, tell the seller that you want the credit given to #5. A percentage of your purchase will go to help our parish pay our school assessment. It's easy to do, and since you are already spending the money on items such as gas and groceries, why not help the school along the way? BUY SCRIP at these locations: Lover's Lane Campus on Tuesdays from 8-10 A.M. Rosemont Campus Wednesdays 8-10 A.M. and Fridays 8-10 and 1-3 P.M. PANCAKE BREAKFAST: On Sunday December 7th, from 9AM to 12:30PM, the Knights of Columbus # will host a pancake breakfast to benefit the Franciscan University Nursing students Mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
