McGuire, pastor (740) triumphofthecross.org Adoration Chapel Needs You There are a number of hours that have come open because of snowbirds leaving for warmer climes. Please help fill in an hour if you are able. The open hours are as follows: Sundays 2:00am, 8:00am, 1:00pm; Tuesdays 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am; Wednesdays 3:00am; Fridays 2:00am, 11:00pm; Saturdays 4:00am and 5:00pm. If you can help in this ministry by spending time in prayerful adoration with Our Lord, please call Sonia Fischer at Penance Services Please plan to attend one of the five penance services being offered this week. The dates and places can be found on the Recap of Upcoming Events on the next page. Parish Offices Closed The Parish Offices will be closed after this coming Friday s business until the day after New Years. Please take care of routine business by Friday. Voice mails will be checked periodically. As always choice number 4 during the main menu will get you a priest in an emergency. Books Open The Mass intention books for all the parishes are now open. Please visit the office at 200 Rosemont Ave. with your requests. It will be helpful if you have your requests written on the front of an envelope containing your donation. The limit is two Sunday and two weekday Masses per year. School of Community Please join us! A group of us meets in the Marian Room 9:30 AM-10:30AM on Thursday mornings for School of Community. School of Community is a time to pray together and read a little bit of theology together (we always read the passage aloud, so there is no "homework"!). We usually read from the books of Monsignor Luigi Giussani, the Italian priest who founded the lay ecclesial movement called Communion and Liberation. Father Giussani enjoyed close friendships with Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI before he passed away. His books are highly esteemed by the Magisterium of the Church. After we read the passage, we look to our own experience, to explore how the Christian proposal relates to our own lives. It is not necessary to join or sign up for anything, just come for the prayer, lively discussion, and friendship! Attendance at PSR is very important. Please have the children at classes each week on time and ready to learn. Attendance is extremely important for the children receiving the Sacraments. By celebrating the precursor's birth and martyrdom, the Church unites herself to his desire: "He must increase, but I must decrease." The Catechism of the Catholic Church A Word from Fr. McGuire The two most important feasts of our Church year both have seasons of preparation in the weeks preceding them. Advent and Lent are both seasons of preparation. In that way they are similar. However, in many other ways they are different. Advent is a season of great hope. There is a feeling during this season that something great is about to happen. And happen it will. We await the Feast of Christmas; but, we also await the Second Coming of Our Lord in glory. If you have found that your Advent preparation has not been what you would have liked spiritually not an uncommon experience here are a few things you might consider doing the remaining 8 days of Advent besides finishing the decorating, baking and the shopping: Go to Mass an extra day this week. Go to Confession at one of the penance services Pray an extra rosary (Mary is a big part of Advent) Pray before the Blessed Sacrament (the Adoration Chapel needs adorers) Pray more with your family Stop to pray for a short time before you begin to go crazy with the last minute details Stop saying, Happy Holidays. Let people know you are an unashamed believer and say, Merry Christmas. Every time you wrap a gift, say a prayer for the person for whom it is intended. Send a Christmas card (one that actually has something to do with Christmas) to someone who has lost a lovedone this year. Arrive early at Christmas Mass, not because you want a good seat, but because you want some extra time to prepare your heart. Offer a prayer and a personal sacrifice for the person or persons who have angered or disappointed you the most since last Christmas Remember that Christmas is not about you, it is about Christ and His love. 3

Servants of Christ the King Christmas Mass is on Christmas Eve at Holy Name Cathedral at 6:30pm. Caroling begins at 6:10pm. Toy Sunday Today The toys for Toy Sunday should be placed before the altar as part of our Offertory Procession. The toys will be distributed to the needy in our area. Today s Mass is being offered for Patrice Bettwy Behe, deceased niece of Sr. Isabel Bettwy. Offertory $1,037; Religious Retirement $145; Total $1,182.
