In a special way, I thank the members of the Good Shepherd Legion of Mary and several other members of the parish who gathered together in the chapel on November 9 at the very time of my mother s funeral in Nigeria to pray for her. I am truly grateful to everyone, for all the condolence cards, and the Mass cards as well. As I ask for your continued prayers, you all remain in my thoughts and prayers as well. God bless you all. The Good Shepherd Knights of Columbus Council will be selling religious Christmas cards in the Parish Hall next weekend, December 2 and 3, after all the Masses. Jesus is the reason for the season! Each tag has a gift item listed. Please return the gift wrapped with the tag secured to the present by December 17. Each tag has a white slip of paper asking for your name and phone number. Please fill this out and place in the basket on the Angel Tree table. Some Angel Tree gift tags are for money donations for food. Please place donations in an envelope marked Angel Tree Project and place in the collection basket during Mass, or at the church office. FLAG MEMORIALS Please pick up your memorialized flags at the parish office. Flags that are not retrieved will be donated to Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery. 3 Religious Education News EDGE Door/Lobby Duty Volunteers: A volunteer, who is cleared or willing to get cleared through the Diocesan Youth Protection Office, is needed to man the door and lobby of the Parish Hall on Monday nights from 6:20-8:00 p.m. The volunteer would be asked to sit in a chair in the lobby outside of the Parish Hall. As students arrive late, they would open the doors to let them in. Also, they would look out for students who may need to leave EDGE Class early. To volunteer to do this much needed service please contact Dr. Spahr at aspahr@gsschpa.org or Parking Lot Duty Volunteers: We need adults who are cleared through the Diocesan Youth Protection Program who are willing to be part of a "Parking Lot Duty" Rotation on Monday nights from 8:00-8:20 p.m. at the Church/Parish Hall. Each week we would have two of the volunteers stand outside while the students leave EDGE and get into their parent s cars to be sure everyone is safe. Common sense safety guidelines will be followed. If you are interested in helping in the Parking Lot please contact Dr. Spahr at aspahr@gsschpa.org or Technology Volunteer Needed: Dr. Spahr is looking for someone who is tech savy to help put pictures on a power point presentation weekly. The pictures are taken at EDGE by another volunteer. Dr. Spahr will the pictures to the person who volunteers to do this to both print them off and then put them in a slide show. Printed pictures will be hung outside of Parish Hall for parents to view as they wait for their teens. Each week pictures will need to be added to the slide show. Contact Dr. Spahr at Hospitality folks are needed on Monday evenings for our new Edge Program. Hospitality includes providing a snack from 6:20-6:30 p.m., at the Church/Parish Hall. Right now we have two ladies who are dedicated in helping with this program. It would be nice to have a few more people help so they can have a week off here and there! It really is easy. The volunteers would get a gift card or cash from the DRE, shop for the snack, set up the snack, serve the snack and clean up afterwards (some weeks the snack will be donated and shopping will not be necessary). The snacks provided should be individually wrapped without nuts and small 8 oz. bottles of water. To sign up to help, please contact Dr. Spahr at Please consider donating snacks for our new Edge Program. Snacks are provided for 120 students on Monday nights weekly. The snacks should be individually wrapped and not contain peanuts or tree nuts. We also need 8 oz. bottles of water! If you donate snacks/water, please write EDGE on the containers with a sharpie. Snacks can be dropped off in the kitchen on Sundays between 3:30-4:45 p.m. If you would like to drop them off at a different time please arrange a time with Dr. Spahr at No Life Night Sunday, November 26 We WILL have our Life Teen Mass on November 26 at 5:00 p.m., but there will not be a Life Night to allow all members of our Life Teen family to continue to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families. We will be back next week, December 3 at our normal time, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.! Looking Ahead With Life Teen: On December 3 we will explore Advent with our Life Night, Joyful Anticipation! Calling All Altar Servers, Ushers, and Lectors We are in need of altar servers, lectors, and ushers for our Life Teen Mass. Training will be provided. All are welcome. High school students are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. We will depart from the Good Shepherd Parking Lot at 9:30 a.m. and arrive home at 6:30 p.m. Our day will include a visit to the National Christmas Museum, Served Lunch at Plain & Fancy Restaurant and the Show Home for the Holidays at American Music Theatre. 4 THE COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS is a selfhelp group offering support to individuals and families following the death of a child, grandchild or sibling. The group meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the All Purpose Room at Good Shepherd Church. This month's meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 28. You do not need to RSVP, there is no cost to attend and all are welcome. For information call Mary Kay Alleman at RCIA - RITE OF WELCOME The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) calls for parish communities to celebrate a Rite of Welcome on the First Sunday of Advent as an official reception of people who have expressed an interest in becoming members of the Catholic Church. Accordingly, next weekend, at the 11:30 a.m. Mass, candidates, who are to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church, will participate in this ceremony. Please keep these brothers and sisters in your prayers that the Holy Spirit will continue to assist them on their journey of discernment. FOR YOUR INSPIRATION! With ADVENT starting, take a few minutes a day and use The Word Among Us, a guide for prayer and reflection during Advent. It will dramatically change your experience during Advent from one of commercialization to spiritual openness. On Saturday, February 3, 2018, we would like to take our servers to the Faith and Family Night with the Hershey Bears. Servers will be treated to a Hershey Bears Game that night. We care for students on all full school days from 2:00-5:30 p.m. We have part-time positions available for two to four afternoons per week. The job consists of snack distribution, homework assistance, and then playtime. If you have school-age children, you are welcome to bring them with you.
