1 GIVING GIFTS FOR OTHERS: The Giving Tree: We received a suggestion from some individuals that we have The Giving Tree available so that people could take advantage of the sales after Thanksgiving. We know how generous you desire to be and want to give you the best opportunities for doing so. Therefore this is the plan: The Weekend of November 20 / 21 the Giving Trees will be located at the church entrances and will remain until all tags have been taken. Please take a tag/s from the tree, purchase the item/s, wrap the gift, and secure the tag to the outside of the wrapped gift. Please return these gifts to the church the weekends of Dec. 4/5 or Dec. 11/12. Toy Sunday: We also have the tradition of designating one weekend as Toy Sunday. On the weekend of Nov. 27 /28 you are invited to bring a wrapped toy. On the outside of the package, please tell us on the tag if it is for a boy or girl and what age level would enjoy receiving it. We will share these gifts with Lamp and the Diocesan Office of Family and Social Concerns. ROAD TO RECOVERY is a service offered by the American Cancer Society in which volunteer drivers provide cancer patients transportation to and from their scheduled medical appointments. Drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help ensure that cancer patients get the life-saving treatments they need. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for this program, please contact Beth Heinicke at the American Cancer Society. The phone number is ext You may also contact Marlene Nese at Thanksgiving Update: Dear Parishioners, Thank you for your generosity last month. We gave out 40 Thanksgiving baskets. 2 SENIOR HIGH YOUTH MINISTRY IN STEUBENVILLE: November 28 - No Youth Group meeting. A Blessed Advent Season to all. GS the Communion & Liberation group for high school students, meets on Sundays, from 7:30-8:45pm, in the school building at St. Peter's, EXCEPT on the following Sundays: Nov. 28, and Dec. 26. Join us as we discuss the meaning and experience of sacrifice, and its relation to love. Helping us in this work is our reading of Fr. Luigi Giussani's book Is it Possible to Live This Way? Vol. 3: Charity. For more information, or to get on the GS list, contact Mr. Stephen Lewis: selewis633@comcast.net; Text Refection 1st Sunday of Advent Wheel of Fortune is more than a TV game show with Pat Sajak and Vanna White. While they have been at it for almost thirty years, having contestants spin the wheel and puzzle out the hidden phrase-"i'd like to buy a vowel, Pat!"-Fortune's Wheel has a much longer history. Going back to Roman times, and then made famous in the Middle Ages, the true "Wheel of Fortune" is an allegory on life. Fortuna (Fortune) is shown as a woman who spins the wheel with a person at the top, one on either side, and a fourth crushed at the bottom. The person on his way up will reign, the one on top is reigning, the person on his way down has reigned, and the final person on the bottom has lost everything. This is fortune's never ending cycle in human existence. At first glance, the return of the Son of Man in Sunday's Gospel may seem to be no more than the vagaries of fortune. For men in the field and for women grinding grain, the fate is the same: "one will be taken, and one will be left." It is as though Jesus were describing the employment situation in the current economy. Rather than adhering to the wheel of falling and rising fortunes, with the beginning of the church year today we enter into our annual cycle of celebrations of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As Christians, we are on a greater journey than a wheel of fortune. The life of Christ is our life too. As Paul reminds us in his Letter to the Romans, we have put on the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not fortune that guides us, but hope: hope in Christ, who is our salvation. We will follow him in this new year of grace, and through faith and love we will be ready to welcome him when he comes again Liturgical Publications Inc 3 CATHOLIC SCHOOLS INFORMATION CCHS BOOSTERS will meet every Tuesday at 8:00pm in the CCHS cafeteria. Liz Borden Preparing for Christmas: Reduce Holiday Carbon Footprint: The First Sunday of Advent. For real? Since Christmas is on a Saturday, this is about the earliest that we begin the Season of Advent. One way to begin this season of preparation might be to consider ways in which we can reduce our holiday carbon footprint. Here are some suggestions from US Catholic: In a survey conducted by US Catholic last month, 71% of those who responded agreed that greening Christmas would make it more spiritually fulfilling and focused on faith. This month US Catholic offers helpful ideas about how to go green this Christmas: from lights to gifts and everything in between. Since Christmas is a time when we put a lot of money into our economy, it's a good time to support more sustainable economic models, such as buying locally or choosing fair trade products. Additionally one can consider minimal number or no gifts approach sharing services, home baked foods, tickets to an event, favors, time, and charitable donations as ways to reduce our Christmas carbon footprint.

3 200 Rosemont Ave. Prayer of Thanksgiving Lord God, I thank You through the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who is pleased to offer You on our behalf, continuous thanksgiving in the Eucharist. Thank You for all Your benefits, general as well as special: for creation, redemption, the sacraments; and specially for the Holy Eucharist, and for all the graces You have given me. I wish to thank You, Lord Jesus, on behalf of myself and of all creatures, and to make amends to you, as far as I am able for the ingratitude of men, of which You complain so vehemently. I wish that I were able to direct the hearts and minds of all men to You, and, together with them and for them, love You perfectly in return just as You rightly expect, especially from those whom You love more than others.
