1 T riumph of the Cross 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time triumphofthecross.org Sept WEEKLY MEETINGS OF GS, a Catholic high school youth group, resumes in Steubenville. High-school aged students from any parish in Steubenville are invited to participate in a youth group known as GS, meeting on Sundays at 7:30pm in the former All Saints School at St. Peter's Church. GS, short for Gioventù Studentesca (Italian for Student Youth ), began in the friendship that sprang up among Fr. Luigi Giussani and a group of students in the Berchet high school in Milan, Italy; now, fifty years later, that friendship has spread throughout the world to 70 countries, including the United States, where GS groups exist in numerous cities and towns. Our weekly meetings involve prayer, song, the reading and discussion of texts by Fr. Giussani, the viewing and discussion of movies and other cultural activities, and charitable work. As Fr. Giussani himself put it, We call students who call themselves Christians and those who want to decide whether or not to remain Christians, to judge Christianity objectively... We tell students that in order to understand Christianity, in order to judge it, you have to get together and try it, and see how life, with all of its interests, when approached from the Christian point of view can be... made the most of. For more information, please contact Mr. Stephen Lewis at (740) , or selewis633@comcast.net LADIES OF THE PARISH: We will have an organizational meeting of the Triumph of the Cross Catholic Woman s Club in the Marian Room on Wednesday, October 8 th at 1:00 p.m. I hope that all the members of the former clubs will be present. It would be wonderful to have new members as well. The afternoon time may be inconvenient for those whom are working. If this is your situation, please send a note to myself, Fr. Nau and tell me what time might be more convenient for you. The 1:00 p.m. time was selected to accommodate those who are unable to drive at night or don t like leaving their homes in the evening. During this meeting I will share what my hopes are that the CWC and I can accomplish in Triumph of the Cross Parish. Fr. Nau MASS FOR HEALING: There will be a Holy Mass for Healing at Holy Family Parish in Steubenville, Ohio on Tuesday, October 7 th at 7:00 p.m. The celebrant will be Fr. Michael Scanlan, T.O.R. Community of God s Love Music Ministry will provide the liturgical music. All are invited. Individuals will be prayed with for healing after Mass. Pastor s Note: Based upon our discussions, I invite parents and students to see this as a religious formation program that supports and nourishes a religious education program. This is another avenue to enhance the religious development of our youth. Fr. Nau Please Pray for Our Priests and Deacons Mon 29 All Priest Tue 30 Rev. In society today, we have decided that which is moral and good is that which is legal. And once you legalize assisted suicide, it will then be deemed good and moral. (Euthanasia expert Wesley J. Smith, Southern Cross 5/12/05)\ BLESSING OF ANIMALS: In tribute to the legend of St. Francis making peace with the wolf in the Italian town of Guibbio, the BLESSING OF PETS will be held outside at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus at the statue of St. Francis of Assisi on Thursday, Oct. 2 nd, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. All God s creatures are welcome. Pace et bene! Peace and all that is good. Our own Fr. Mark will be doing the blessing.
