4 Awe for God Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 Key Text: Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong (Eccl. 5:1) Key Thought: God insists that we approach Him with awe and reverence. 1) Intro & Context 2) The importance of (cf. Ps. 81:6-16; Isa. 1:2-10; Mt. 17:5; Jn. 10:1-16) Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry (Ja. 1:19) a. God blesses those who listen (Ps. 81:13-16; Pr. 8:32-35) Obedience follows good listening (cf. Mt. 21:28-32; Ja. 1:22-24) Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says (Ja. 1:22) b. God those who don t listen (Isa. 1:2-10; 30:8-18; Jer. 6:6-30) I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my law (Jer. 6:19) 3) The of a vow (cf. Do you listen and respond with obedience? How well do you hold to your promises? Do you understand how serious this is to God? Do you revere God? Do you treat His Word with reverence? Or do you blow it off?

Those in Need of God s Strength and Healing: Katie Clarke, Felipe Cantu, Arlene Miller, Margaret Hasty, Anna Swanson, Jay & Judie Stanley, Ann Seyller, Jonnie McDermand, Margaret Crandall, Tasha Munger, Dan Steele, and families that have lost loved ones, military families, and unspoken concerns. Prayer Notes: Prayer Following Worship Please feel free to take your burden or praise to one of the Elim Prayer Team members available to pray with you. Team members include: Julie, Linda, Carolyn, Juanita, & Tasha and can be easily found at the back of the sanctuary in the northwest classroom behind the sound system booth. Prayer Gatherings Each Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. there is a prayer gathering held at Elim. Also, there is a Wednesday morning prayer group meeting in Pastor s 7:00 a.m. You are encouraged to come and pray with the team members and share your requests/praises. Prayer Chain The prayer network is used when special needs arise during the week. Call Judy at the church Monday thru Thursday 8:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. otherwise call or text Tasha (309) with your request. If no answer, you may leave your concern on the answer machine and it will be relayed ASAP.

6 PRE-WORSHIP SERVICE Starting this morning there will be a Pre-Worship 10:15 a.m. Those that are interested are invited to join in. Regular service will 10:30 as usual, and you are asked to fellowship in the gathering area and be respectful of those worshipping when entering the sanctuary. See Leonna Ellis with???? Attention ladies make sure you pick up your new triad groupings. They are on the table in the gathering area. See Julie Wells with questions. The next meeting of the Christian Service Brigade will be Monday, February 5 6:30 p.m. All young boys and their fathers are encouraged to join in. See Nick Wagner with any questions. February 8 5:30 p.m.-deacons & Elders Meeting MLT 6:00 p.m. CHOCOLATE THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES CHOCOLATE THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES Set-up will be Friday, February 9 noon. Also, be 9:00 on Saturday, February 10 th for final set-up displays. The chocolate tasting event will be Saturday, February 10 th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The next daytime Trivia will be Tuesday, February 20 11:30 a.m. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. Sign-up! $5.00 per person. Don t forget your sack lunch. There is a sign-up sheet in the gathering area.

7 The Ash Wednesday Service will be February 14 6:00 p.m. ALL CHURCH POTLUCK Seth & Andrea Sears and their family will be Elim on Sunday, February 18 th. The Sears family are missionaries serving in Costa Rica. We will have a potluck following worship to welcome them. There is a sign-up sheet in the gathering area. S.P.L.A.S.H. MEETING Attention ladies: the next S.P.L.A.S.H. meeting will be held on Saturday, February24 9:00-11:00 a.m. Iron Sharpens Iron Men s Conference is March 24 th, 2018 at the Harvest Bible Chapel in Davenport, IA. Cost is $55/man & includes lunch or $40/student (13-22) & includes lunch. Registration forms are on the table in the gathering area. See Don Peterson with any questions.
