We'd expect a cedar or a sequoia, but Jesus finds the power of God better imaged in a tiny, no-account seed. It's not the way we expect divine activity to look. Yet the tree of life is here, in the cross around which we gather, the tree into which we are grafted through baptism, the true vine that nourishes us with its fruit in the cup we share. It may not appear all that impressive, but while nobody's looking it grows with a power beyond our understanding. CHURCH STAFF Pastor Rev. SUMMER HYMN SING your favorite hymns will be sung for 15 minutes before each service. Anything goes! Our hymnal has a lot of hymns to choose from, so pick your favorites and we will sing them. In order to accommodate as many requests as possible, we will only sing the first two (2) stanzas of each hymn requested.

3 CONFIRMATION PICTURES have arrived and can be picked up in the church office. WANTED - Volunteers for Vacation Bible School. No experience necessary. Looking for kitchen help, craft helpers, and leaders to guide classes around to the different stations and keep order (there is no teaching involved). There are 225 children registered which requires a lot of helpers. Please register online at vbs.hopecherryville.org. and push Be a VBS Volunteer or use a paper form in the hallway. INK CARTRIDGE AND TONER RECYCLING - Recycle your empty ink and toner cartridges and Hope Church will get $2 back in Staples Rewards for each one. So not only will we save on future purchases, but we can also feel good about reducing waste in our landfills. Please deposit them in the box located in the narthex. Did you know? In 2011, Staples U.S. customers recycled more than 67 million ink and toner cartridges. Their goal is to recycle 100 million each year, globally, by PHILLIES BUS TRIP Friday, June 20 th Hope Church will once again go to see the Phillies. Cost for the game and bus trip is $50.00 (which also includes a hoagie and a drink). The sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. This will continue through Labor Day. The nursery will be open; however you will need to stay with your child. We will continue to staff the nursery for the 9:30am worship services.

CANCER PREVENTION STUDY Help change the face of cancer for future generations! If you are between the ages of 30 and 65 and have never been diagnosed with cancer, enroll in the American Cancer Society s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3), coming to First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem and St. Luke s University Health Network. Visit or call to enroll and to find out more details about your participation in this historic study. HOPEFEST DID YOU KNOW Every year the HopeFest committee uses the income from the festival to benefit an organization in our congregation or in the wider community. This year the committee has decided to donate all the proceeds to upgrading our kitchen in Kuntz Hall! Hope Lutheran hosts quite a number of events where the kitchen is used heavily funeral luncheons, dances, Boy Scout dinners, Youth Group Valentine dinner and many more. That kind of use and the normal wear and tear have taken its toll on the counters and some of the equipment. How can you help? Come for dinner, to play bingo, listen to the d bands, spend time with people you know all for a wonderful cause helping Hope to maintain an efficient, high-quality kitchen! HOPE FEST HELP IS NEEDED - June 22 nd and June 23 rd. Volunteers are needed for 2- hour shifts. A set-up and clean-up crew is also needed. Signup sheets are located on the table in the narthex. JEWELRY FOR HOPE FEST - The basket committee of Hope Church is looking for your gold, silver, costume, even broken jewelry. The ladies are selling jewelry at Hope Fest on June 22 nd and June 23 rd. Please drop off your donations in the marked jewelry box in the narthex. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Come visit us at Hope Fest to look for a new treasure to wear home. HOPE FEST CHINESE AUCTION - Chinese Auction items needed. Please help by donating NEW items to our auction. Items or gift certificates can be dropped off in the church office. 6 HELP THE SAINTS GO MARCHIN The youth who are attending the National Youth Gathering in July are coming to the home stretch with their fundraising efforts. While we are nearing our goal we are not there yet. Our last fundraiser is one in which we hope everyone who wants to can have a part. Here s how it will work.. On the youth bulletin board will be 150 envelopes numbered 1 through 150. Those numbers represent a dollar amount. We encourage people who are interested in supporting our youth to take one of those envelopes; place in it the amount listed on the front along with your name, address and phone number; and place it in an offering plate or return it to the church office. As a thank you for supporting us here s what you will receive in return.. The opportunity to help create a life-changing moment for our young people A personal post-card from our youth while they are at the gathering in July An invitation to a post-trip luncheon to thank you for supporting us and giving you the chance to hear first hand what our young people witnessed and what it means in their lives The knowledge that through your generosity our youth will grow in faith, find joy in serving and share God s love beyond the walls of our church What a wonderful way to connect with our young people and make a difference in so many lives!
