Almighty God urges the faithful, again and again, to "listen up!" to heed the word from above. So it was with Abraham and Sarah, with Mary and Martha, and the early church at Colossae. DISASTER RESPONSE TEAM This morning Doris Zellers will be offering a presentation on the Disaster Response Team s recent trip to Little Ferry, NJ to help with the clean-up efforts from Hurricane Sandy. Our members who helped with this trip were Doris and Pete Zellers, Lee Blose and Pastor Paulette. Thank you for a job well done! WELCOME to our new Communications Specialist, Nina Weiss. She began working this past Wednesday, July 17 th. Nina lives in Schnecksville with her husband and two boys. She is active at the local swim club and the elementary school PTO. Nina holds a BA in Communications with a minor in Public Relations from the State University of New York at Geneseo. She was an instructional aide in Parkland School District, has served as the Manager and Vice President for Membership at Orchard View Swim Club, and currently works very part-time at Pier 1 Imports. She will be working with Steve Shermetta to transition this position over the next month. Nina will be in the office Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm and additional hours as posted.

3 FIRST HOLY COMMUNION this morning during the 8:00am worship service Samantha Ancelitz, daughter of Eleanor Black and Michael Hunsicker, son of Marcia Hunsicker will be receiving their First Holy Communion. SUMMER HYMN SING your favorite hymns will be sung for 15 minutes before each service. Anything goes! Our hymnal has a lot of hymns to choose from, so pick your favorites and we will sing them. In order to accommodate as many requests as possible, we will only sing the first two (2) stanzas of each hymn requested. KNOEBELS TRIP Sunday, July 28 th is the deadline to sign up and also ALL money is due by that date. See the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for more information. LAST WEEK - SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS Hope Church offers scholarship money to full-time college students. If you are attending your second year (or higher) and have completed an application, please return it to the church office by Friday, July 26 th. BASKET COMMITTEE MEETING A reminder to the Basket Committee members, our annual picnic is being held at the home of Linda and Tom Sidor on Wednesday, August 7 th beginning at 6:00pm. FAMILY FAITH CHALLENGE The theme of the family faith challenges for July 2013 is the Second Article of the Apostle s Creed, On Redemption. We challenge you to think about God, creation, and our responsibility to care for creation. July 21-27: Read the Second Article of the Apostles Creed, On Redemption, and the explanation in Luther s Small Catechism. Celebrate Easter again this week. Talk about how you usually celebrate Easter with your family. Have an egg hunt; write He is Risen or He is Risen Indeed on paper napkins to use at a breakfast meal. Sing an Easter hymn, go to church this Sunday and wish everyone a Happy Easter! (We can celebrate Christ s resurrection every day!)

4 CHILDREN S BOOKS - St. Stephen's Lutheran Outreach Center in Allentown is looking for new or gently used children's books for their Book Nook. The books will be used during summer playground sessions and an after school program for children in the coming school year. CONFIRMATION ORIENTATION MEETING - An orientation meeting with students and parents of students entering in the first and second levels will be held on Sunday, August 18 th at 10:45am. Requirements and schedules will be reviewed for the upcoming school year. This is a VERY IMPORTANT meeting; please mark your calendars now! A letter will be sent to all students with more information. HOPE CHURCH S YARD SALE - The yard sale at Hope Church will be held on Friday, August 30 th and Saturday, August 31 st. Start cleaning those basements, garages and attics and get your items ready for our annual yard sale. Items can be brought to church on Saturdays only in July and August from 8:00am -1:00pm, beginning Saturday, July 17 th. If Saturdays do not work for you to drop off your items; you can make other arrangements by calling Ralph Fisher at or Please see the flyer on the bulletin board for a list of items that are NOT being accepted. GRACEDALE VISIT the Social Ministry Committee will be helping with the worship service at Gracedale NEXT Sunday, July 28 th. We will leave the church parking lot at 9:00am for the 10:00am service at Gracedale. We need volunteers to transport residents to the worship service. Interested? Questions?
