COFFEE WITH COUNCIL will be held THIS MORNING, Sunday, January 15 th at 9:15am in Kuntz Hall. Members are invited to meet with council representatives for questions and conversation. Also, our Finance Chairperson will be at the meeting to review other funds which are not included in our 2017 budget (which we go over at the annual meeting). 3 SHARING OF THE PEACE during the cold and flu season, we will be sharing the peace verbally without shaking hands. Thank you for understanding! FIRST HOLY COMMUNION the fifth grade class has begun First Holy Communion instruction. First Holy Communion will be held on Sunday, March 26 th. Please note that it is mandatory for students to attend at least 10 of these lessons to be able to receive their First Holy Communion in March. If your child is not currently enrolled in Sunday School but is in the fifth grade and would like to come for the instruction, please call the church office at Today is your last chance to join, to be able to meet the required amount of classes needed! NEW MEMBERS CLASSES - If you know of someone who is interested in becoming a member of Hope Church, please invite him or her to our new member s classes, which will begin in February. Classes will be held from 9:15-10:15am on the following Sundays; February 12 th, 19 th and 26 th. The last class will be a reception and the new members will be received during worship services that morning. FLOWER SPONSOR CHART - Our new flower chart for 2017 is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. Two sponsors (and only two) are needed each week, at a cost of $15.00 per sponsor. Sponsor envelopes are next to the chart, the sponsor money and the envelope is due in the church office two weeks before the sponsorship. Thank you to Sis Livermon for making our flower chart. 4 HOPE'S HELPING HANDS - Hope's Helping Hands will be selling delicious meat pies and apple dumplings to help everyone get through the postholiday blues and the cold days of winter. Helping Hands members will be located in the narthex after church services on January 22 nd, 29 th and February 5 th to take orders. The homemade chicken, sausage or beef meat pies and apple dumplings are made from scratch by Zook's Homemade Pies in Lancaster, PA. Pies are 9 inches in diameter and can be ordered in either chicken or beef and sell for $10.00 each. The apple dumplings can be purchased in either single or twin packs. Single apple dumpling sells for $3.50 and the twin pack is $6.00. Delivery will be on Saturday, February 18 th at the church. Our fundraising allows us to assist others in need without putting additional pressure on the church budget while doing God's work. NEW THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY Pastor Jami s Thursday morning Bible Study group have begun a new course entitled The Bible in Depth. This is a 30+ week comprehensive exploration of the Bible as a whole and its meanings for life today (participants do not have to attend every week come and go as you are available). Moving through ten biblical themes, participants will trace related stories and events through both Old and New Testaments. Please consider joining Pastor Jami for this exciting course of study for adults who are ready to reflect deeply on the Scriptures, faith and life. NO bible study experience is necessary NO previous knowledge of the bible is required just a desire to open God s word and learn and grow!!! The class meets each Thursday from 10:00AM to 11:15AM in the adult Sunday School room in the rear of Kuntz Hall. Please call the church office if you are interested so we can order a study workbook for you. Workbooks for this 30+ week course are $35.00 and checks can be made payable to Hope Lutheran Church. ANNUAL VALENTINE S DINNER Bring your sweetheart to the 9 th annual Valentine's Dinner on Saturday, February 11 th. Dinner options are prime rib, chicken Marsala, chicken Oscar or vegetable lasagna. Meals are served with potatoes, vegetables, soup, roll and dessert. Junior portions and child meals are also available. Adult tickets $12, junior portions $7, and children's meals (hot dogs and mac & cheese) $2.50. Tickets will be available after each service beginning next Sunday, January 22 nd, January 29 th and February 5 th or call the church and leave a message on the youth group mailbox, ext. 9. The DEADLINE for tickets is Sunday, February 5 th. Reservations are required. No walk-ins will be accepted. Snow date Sunday, February 12 th. Seating times are every half hour beginning at 4:30pm; last seating is at 7:00pm. (limited tickets for each seating time.)

5 WOMEN OF FAITH the Women of Faith are collecting items for the Keystone Military Families, a military support organization based in Berks County serving the needs of our deployed military personnel, their families and our veterans from the state of PA. Their mission is to make sure the families have nutritious food, clothing that fits them and their children, school supplies and general household items to relieve some of the stress their situation has caused them. See a list of items we are collecting on another page of this insert. Please place your items in the box located in the narthex. The items will be sorted and boxed up by the Women of Faith on Monday, January 23 rd and then delivered to their permanent home in Shoemakersville, PA by Earl and Toni Snyder. Also, Pastor Jami will be joining us at our February meeting (Monday, February 27 th ) to teach us about Lutheran prayer beads. We will also be making our own prayer beads to take home with us. 7 KEYSTONE MILITARY FAMILIES has been assisting deployed troops, veterans and military families for many years. Their goal is to provide support to the military community while preserving their dignity. They treat each of them with the respect they have earned while serving our country. Items will be collected through Sunday, January 22 nd. We also provide referrals to other agencies that may be able to further assist them with things like rent or utility bills. Thank you for your support for our troops, their families and our veterans. With continued community support we can make a huge difference in their comfort and peace of mind.

8 Hope s 500 Challenge Throughout the month of January, we would like our members to record 500 acts of kindness and post them on the Reformation 2017 bulletin board located in the narthex. Here s how you can participate 1. Keep track of any acts of kindness you do throughout the week. 2. On Sunday morning or whenever you are in the church write down your act of kindness on the cards by the bulletin board in the narthex. 3. Pin it to the kindness wall. Watch our kindnesses blossom! We ll pull a few each week and share them in the bulletins and newsletters so that everyone can see how the people of Hope are living out Jesus mission to love others.

9 YOUTH GROUP NEWS - For those of you going to the National Youth Gathering in 2018 please hand in your signed covenant as soon as possible. Our youth event for January will be a trip to Blue Mountain to go snowtubing! We ll meet the night of Friday January 20 th at Hope at 5:00pm for dinner (chicken nuggets and mac & cheese) and head to Blue Mountain at 5:30pm for our 6:00pm reservation. We will be back to Hope around 9:30pm. Parent chaperones are welcomed and appreciated we will probably need a lot of drivers. The cost per person is $25.00 (unless you have a season pass). Sign-up on the youth board. Every youth will also need to fill out Hope's youth permission slip if you haven't already. I hope you can join us! NORTHAMPTON AREA FOOD BANK - The Northampton Area Food Bank is sponsoring a Purse and Gift Card Bingo on Sunday, February 5, The doors open at noon and bingo starts at 2:00pm. It is being held at Good Shepherd Catholic School gym located at 1300 Newport Avenue, Northampton. Tickets are $20.00 for 20 games. There will also be 5 special bingo games for $5.00 as well as a Chinese auction, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, mystery envelopes, food and more.
