1 Hope Lutheran Church 4131 Lehigh Drive, Cherryville, PA (610) hopecherryville.org September 30, 2018 Pentecost 19 Someone is casting out demons in Jesus name who isn t part of Jesus own circle, and the disciples want him stopped. They appeal to Jesus, as Joshua did to Moses about the elders who prophesied without official authorization. Like Moses, Jesus refuses to see this as a threat. Jesus welcomes good being done in his name, even when it is not under his control. The circle we form around Jesus word must be able to value good being done in ways we wouldn t do it, by people we can t keep tabs on. CHURCH STAFF Pastor Rev. 6 Our Stewardship Committee is excited to announce the 2018 Fall Stewardship theme HOPE for Our Community This year we want to celebrate the many ways Hope reaches out into the community because of YOUR generous support. Did you know that if a child does not get enough food outside of school he or she is considered food insecure? Did you know that in the Northampton Borough 18% of children under 18 live below the poverty line? We would like to help change those numbers by working with local schools to provide a Back-Pack program which will provide nutritious, nonperishable, easy-to-prepare food to children to ensure they get enough food on weekends and holidays when they cannot depend on school meals to avoid hunger. HOPE for Our Community. As part of our 2018 Commitment Sunday event, we will be collecting rolling backpacks and shelf-stable food. Containers will be available in the narthex for you to deposit your donations. Members may sponsor the purchase of a backpack and/or donate food from the following list: Instant oatmeal Small jar of peanut butter Granola bars Box Macaroni & Cheese Shelf stable milk box Healthy cereal sm. bags pretzels sm. Cups applesauce sm. Fruit cups Pop top pasta w/beef sm. Pop-top chili sm. Bags trail mix Shelf stable yogurt shelf stable cheese sm. Box of 100% Fruit juice We will observe Commitment Sunday on October 14 th at both worship services and we ve planned some fun activities During worship, we will share how our members give Hope to the lives of people in our community and beyond. You will have the opportunity to complete and return an Estimate of Giving Card. Finally we will have a Thank You breakfast after each service where you can join other members for a warm meal and lots of fellowship just to say thanks! In the weeks leading up to October 14 th, you will have the opportunity to RSVP to the breakfast by completing a card at church. You may also call the church office to RSVP.

9 Sunday School Monthly Mission Project (MMP) The Chemo Bag The Monthly Mission Project for October is for an organization called The Chemo Bag. This cause is dear to my heart because I had a personal experience with this agency. Last year, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The first day that I was to get chemo, my family and I were scared. One of the kind nurses handed me a bag. I was surprised to receive a gift that day. I could not believe everything that was inside this bag. It had so many items that I would need and use throughout the treatments. Some of the items in my bag included a very soft blanket, candy, lotions, soaps, water bottles, and even crossword puzzles and coloring books. It was such a great feeling receiving one of the bags that day, knowing that others cared and wanted to help. I took that bag along with me to the treatments. Since this month is dedicated to breast cancer awareness, we are asking the children to bring in items to fill bags for cancer patients to receive when they begin chemotherapy, just as I did. The Chemo Bag organization will fill as many bags as they can with our donations. Our goal is to be able to fill 20 bags! Please donate items form the list and help this amazing cause, items will be collected during the morning of Sunday School Worship Service: Bottled water Colloidal oatmeal soap Crystallized Ginger Gentle toothpaste (Tom s, Biotine) Ginger Tea Green Tea Healing lip balm Healthy, all-natural organic treats Journal Knitted hat Lap blanket 50 x 60 Mints, lemon drops & gum Nail files Ornaments Pens Prepaid phone or SMS gift card Peppermint tea Thick soft socks Puzzle Books Travel size hand & body creams Sleep masks Travel/purse size tissue Travel size first aid kit Travel size hand sanitizer Selection of notecards w/ pre-stamped envelopes Packets of instant chicken noodle soup Thanks for helping make someone s day a little brighter. Blessings, Robin Zamadics and Ally Lockard
