HOPE DISASTER RESPONSE TEAM MEETING PLANNED - The Disaster Response Team will meet on Sunday, February 24, at 9:15 am (during Sunday School hour) in Kuntz Hall. At that time we can make decisions about which dates people are interested in attending and how we might raise funds for response/recovery opportunities. COMING SOON A BUCK-A-CHICK Look for the display near the bulletin board in the Narthex area to name a chick and contribute to ELCA World Hunger as part of your Lenten discipline. THE EnsemBELL is a group of select ringers whose membership varies upon availability. Today s group is comprised of 5 ringers. One of the pieces they are playing, Shine, Jesus, Shine, is usually played by 9 ringers. In order to make it possible for 5 people to play what 9 people would play, each ringer is responsible for a greater number of bells. You will see two strategies, or techniques, used to make this possible. One is called weaving, which involves weaving your hands over and under (while sometimes moving side to side along the bell tables) to make the necessary bell changes. The second is ringing 2 bells in one hand. Watch to see which ringers are using which technique. Be assured, this takes coordination, cooperation and practice! BELL SOLOIST - One of The EnsemBELLS s members is Stacy Hageman. Stacy has been ringing handbells since she was a teenager, and is a very accomplished bell soloist. She has been solo ringing since 9 th grade, and will be ringing I Surrender All at both services today. Stacy is a member of St. Peter s Lutheran Church, Plainfield, and we are very pleased to have her be part of our bell ensemble, and glad that she is willing to worship at Hope when The EnsemBELL rings. Thank you for sharing your talents with us, Stacy.

4 FAMILY FAITH CHALLENGE The theme of the family faith challenges for February 2013 is Holy Communion: We challenge you to think about Holy Communion, another means of grace, and what it means to be forgiven, pardoned, and invited. The challenge for the week of February is to read the second question in Luther's Small Catechism under Holy Communion. Share stories with your family of when you received your first communion. For what age does your church offer first communion? What is offered to those who are too young? Get another paper plate and pencil (one per family member). This time rip the paper plate into pieces, one piece per member of your family. On the broken piece of paper plate, write down some things that separate you from God. Remember that God still loves you in spite of these things by placing heart stickers or adhesive bandages over the broken words. CHOOSE GOD CHOOSE JOY - The WELCA group of Hope is hosting an event on Saturday, March 16, 2013, here at our church. The theme is "Choose God Choose Joy" and all women in the Northeast Pennsylvania region are invited. Registration is $20 and includes lunch. It begins at 9:00 a.m. and will last until 2:30 p.m. Deadline is March 1st to register and all women of Hope are welcome to attend. There is more info in the WELCA box on the Bulletin Board or call Judy Dieter at with any questions. WELCA NEWS is available on the bulletin board in the narthex. AN IN-DEPTH BIBLE STUDY - JUST IN TIME FOR LENT! - Beginning on February 14, 2013 Pastor Jami will lead a new Bible study called Discovering the Bible. This is a comprehensive exploration of the whole Bible - the people, places and stories. Over the course of 30 sessions we will work our way through major events in the Old and New Testaments. Participants will discover where The Story meets our story and what it all means for our daily living. Discovering the Bible is a study for those who might be brand-new to Bible study, and those who have had long familiarity with Scripture. It is an exciting course of study for adults ready to reflect deeply on the Scriptures, faith and life. Classes will be held every Thursday morning from 10:00 11:15 starting on February 14th in the adult Sunday School room behind Kuntz Hall. Don t worry if you will miss a few classes there are 30 to attend so we ll be meeting for quite a while! The cost of the workbook for each participant is $30.00 (scholarships are available just talk to Pastor Jami). Checks can be made payable to Hope Lutheran Church. If you are interested in registering for this course, please contact Pastor Jami at the church office ( ) or sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway near the office so we can pre-order your workbook.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Hope Lutheran Church is responsible for providing volunteers to work at the Northampton Area Food Bank during the month of March. Volunteers are needed to assist with unpacking the food delivered to the food bank, packing of orders for distribution to needy families and distribution at the food bank of packed orders. Volunteers are needed on the following dates and times: Monday, March 4 1:00 to 3:00 pm - Un-packing of food delivery from Second Harvest (need to be able to lift cases of food) Wednesdays, March 6, 13 and 20 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Packing of food orders Thursdays, March 7, 14 and 21 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm Distribution of food orders Fridays, March 8 and 15 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Packing of food orders Saturdays, March 9 and 16 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Distribution of food orders A sign up list is located on church bulletin board.
