God's people have always lived in great expectation, but that expectation finds specific, repeated enunciation in the texts appointed for these four weeks. The ancients anticipated a "righteous Branch to spring up for David." The Thessalonians awaited "the coming of our Lord Jesus with all the saints." Our Lord's contemporaries hoped for the time "to stand before the Son of Man." With them we eagerly await the coming days: another Christmas celebration, a second coming, and the advent of our Lord in word and supper. CHURCH STAFF Pastor Rev. CONGRATULATIONS the rosebud on the altar is in celebration of the birth of Kane David Lehr. Kane is the son of Devin and Tuasha Lehr. He was born at LVHC-CC on Tuesday, November 27 th. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION During the season of Advent we will be singing the prayers. A cantor (leader of song) will intone the prayer petition and the congregation will intone the response: Lord have mercy. 3 WEDNESDAY EVENING ADVENT WORSHIP - We will prepare for the Christmas season with an additional opportunity for weekly worship Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm on December 5, 12 & 19. Our worship will be approximately 30 minutes in length and will use the beautiful contemporary setting of Holden Evening Prayer. WELCA NEWS is available on the bulletin board in the narthex. INGATHERING Please return your NEW unwrapped gifts to the narthex TODAY, Sunday, December 2 nd. Also, don t forget our mitten tree, your donations of knit or store bought hats, scarves, mittens and gloves can be placed right on the tree (also to be brought in TODAY). The annual Christmas Ingathering of the Northern Lehigh Valley Mission District will be held this Thursday, December 6 at Union Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville. Packing of stockings and wrapping of gifts will begin at 1:00pm. We will leave Hope s parking lot at 12:15pm. We will also be packing our items on Wednesday, December 5 th beginning at 6:30pm. All are welcome to help! CHURCH DIRECTORY Portrait sittings continue; the remaining dates are as follows: December 7 & 8. Portraits are valued family keepsakes. The directory will not be complete without you! You will receive a free 8 x 10 and a directory for getting your picture taken, if you decide to purchase additional portraits; you can save $5.00 on your portrait order by bringing along a canned food item to your portrait sitting. All food items donated will be given to the Northampton Area Food Bank. If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please call Nancy Hofmann at DISASTER RESPONSE a Disaster Response team will be formed to help with the clean-up efforts in New Jersey after the devastation that state received during Hurricane Sandy. Not many details are known at this time, but if you interested in receiving more information as it becomes available; please sign up on the sheet located on the bulletin board in the narthex. You can also call Wayne Weidner at with any questions. JESSE TREE FOR ADVENT - Each day during Advent a volunteer places a symbol on the Jesse Tree in the narthex. The symbol represents one of the Bible Stories, which leads to the birth of Jesus. A scripture and prayer are included on the back of each symbol for a brief devotion before placing the symbol on the macramé tree. If you can help with this, please sign the list in the narthex.

4 CHRISTMAS EVE COMMUNION ASSISTANTS two assistants are needed for the 4:00pm worship service on Christmas Eve. If you can help, please call the church office at POINSETTIAS FOR CHRISTMAS EVE - The Senior Choir is selling poinsettias for Christmas Eve. The DEADLINE to order your poinsettias is Sunday, December 9th. Order forms are available in your bulletin this morning and on the table in the narthex. ONLY A FEW LEFT! WREATHS FOR SALE TO DECORATE HOPE CHURCH On Saturday, December 22 nd, when we decorate Hope for the holiday season, wreaths will be hung. Anyone wishing to sponsor a wreath in honor of or in memory of a loved one is asked to call the church office at SPECIAL CHRISTMAS COMMUNION WORSHIP - Christmas Communion Worship for our shut-in members and members unable to get to a Christmas Eve service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 19 th. A light luncheon will follow. Please call the church office if you need a ride. ALTAR GUILD HELP - Again this year we will be having 4 worship services on Christmas Eve; 4:00pm, 6:00pm, 8:30pm and 11:00pm (please note time change for the last worship service). We could use 2 to 3 people to help our altar guild for each service. The volunteers for the altar guild will help fill the candles with liquid wax and straighten up the pews for the following service. Please call the church office at if you can help or sign up on the sheet located in the back of the church. SUNDAY SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM - Our annual Christmas Program will be held on Sunday, December 16 th at 6:00pm. There will be refreshments after the program in Kuntz Hall. Any donations of finger food items would greatly be appreciated. They can be dropped off in Kuntz Hall up to the start of the program. MILITARY PICTURES our church directory committee would like to include pictures of any of our military members. Please contact the church office at as soon as possible so that our service members can be included in our new directory. STATISTICS Last Sunday s attendance; 8:00am service 137; 10:30am service 139. 5 PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK The Congregational Council is encouraging all our members to grow in their spirituality through a regular Prayer Life. One way of doing this is by lifting up in prayer one family from our church each day of the year. COAT DRIVE Ice Cream Lab in Walnutport is once again collecting coats for area residents in need. Any unwanted coat or jacket in clean and good condition would be greatly appreciated. For each coat donated you will receive $1.00 gift certificate for Ice Cream Lab. Please drop them at the Ice Cream Lab anytime until December 31 st. Thank you. OPERATION: BUDDY PACK - You can help collect backpacks filled with essential supplies for Hurricane Sandy's youngest victims. Hurricane Sandy left a wake of destruction, devastating millions of people. Many of those affected are school-aged children who now have only a few belongings to call their own. These children STILL NEED OUR HELP. Hope s Brownie Troop #8635 is collecting items to help with this special operation. Please see the box in the narthex (with a list of items needed). Items will be collected until Tuesday, December 11 th. Thank you! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED a new lock up schedule for 2013 is being prepared. Volunteers are needed for February, May and September. You would choose the month you would like to lock the church and would lock up on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of the month you choose. If you can help, please call Jane in the church office at DID YOU RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION THIS YEAR? - Did you indicate that you received communion this year on Hope s Hospitality pads? Please check the next time you receive communion (if you didn t or you re not sure). Our constitution requires active members to receive communion regularly.
