3 PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK: The Congregational Council is encouraging all our members to grow in their spirituality through a regular Prayer Life. One way of doing this is by lifting up in prayer one family from our church each day of the year. The meeting will be held in Kuntz Hall. At least 50 members are needed for a quorum that morning. Voting members are confirmed members. Such confirmed members, during the current or preceding calendar year, shall have communed in this congregation and shall have made a contribution of record to this congregation. SENIOR THANKSGIVING FEAST: Will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:30 am in Kuntz Hall. All seniors are welcome. Please join us for fun, fellowship, food and entertainment! Sign-up by November 2, 2018 on the sheet located on the Bulletin Board. BOOK BASKET: A book basket for young children is now available in the Narthex. Children may take a book or books to look through and read, then return to the basket upon leaving church. This is in addition to the coloring papers which the users will hand out. VETERANS NAMES: Please contact the church office with all names of those who have served in our armed services as we will recognize their service during worship on Sunday, November 11 th. 4 COFFEE WITH COUNCIL: Will be held today at 9:15 am in Kuntz Hall. Members are invited to meet with Council representatives for questions and conversation. WOMEN OF FAITH: On Saturday, November 10 th, we will be traveling to Shoemakersville to pack boxes for the Keystone Military Families. Their mission is to provide support to deployed military and their families by sending letters and cards, personal care items, snacks and local favorites to the deployed personnel and logistical, economic support and assistance to dependent families. Check out more about the Keystone Military Families on Facebook. We will be leaving the church parking lot at 9:00 am. Our shift to pack boxes is from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Help is needed! A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board in the Narthex. Any questions, please contact Jane Tretiak at BOY SCOUT ITALIAN BUFFETT DINNER: Saturday, November 3 rd from 3:00-8:00 pm here at Hope Church. Tickets available from Troop 242 Boy Scouts or from the church office. Proceeds will be used to maintain the troops equipment and defer the cost of some troop outings. Please see the flyer on the Community Board for more information. COMMITMENT CARDS: If you have not already done so, kindly return your commitment card to the church as soon as possible. PROPOSED BUDGET: The Proposed Budget, unreviewed by Council, will be available on November 4 th for review. Council will review the proposed budget at their meeting on November 5 th and will submit the proposed budget to the Congregation at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 11, YOUNG ADULTS OF HOPE: Hope s young adult group is going bowling the evening of Thursday, November 8 th. 6 SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS: October s MMP for the Chemo Bag organization will be running until November 4 th. Thank you for your amazing donations and all the support. Next month we will be participating in the Toys for Tots campaign donation request is a new unwrapped toy. Happy National Sunday School Teacher s Day (Sunday, October 21 st, 2018). 7 PRAYER SCARVES FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS: Attention all parents of college students, Hope s Prayer Shawl Ministry is currently knitting and crocheting scarves for all of our college students. It s a surprise! We plan to ship them out when the weather gets cold to let our students know that we continue to pray for them as they study. Here is how you can help, please call or the church office at office@hopecherryville.org and provide to us your child s address. We will be sending to all students in colleges, trade or technical schools and community colleges. If your child is living at home and commuting we need to know that as well. Please let us know as soon as possible so we make enough for everyone! INGATHERING: Beginning NEXT SUNDAY, November 4 th our collection of items for our yearly Ingathering will begin. These items will be given to local organizations such as the Allentown Rescue Mission, Sayre Child Center, Gracedale, Hamburg Center and Kidspeace. Your NEW unwrapped gifts will need to be returned to the Narthex by Tuesday, December 4 th. Also, coming soon, the mitten tree will be up and ready for your donations of knit or store bought hats, scarves, mittens and gloves can be placed right on the tree. See the enclosed list of items needed! NOTES FROM CLEARANCE COORDINATOR: To keep in compliance with state mandated guidelines, all adult volunteers working with children and youth have to complete certain clearances and paperwork. Many of you have these on file already, however there is an additional form that needs to be signed and a few updates. If you are a Confirmation Parent, Youth Group Leader, or Mentor please see Julie Sekol outside of the church sanctuary after the service today. If you are a Sunday School Teacher or Helper Julie will stop by your classroom today with the forms that are needed. Thank you!

8 Today, we celebrate the reforms that Martin Luther instituted not with a sense of pride that, as Lutherans, we have it right but with a gratefulness that, in faith, we believe in the power of God to make us God s holy children sent to proclaim love and forgiveness to the world. Faith is a living, daring confidence in God s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times. Martin Luther When Martin Luther, an Augustine monk, posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg on October 31, 1517, no one expected the breadth of reforms in Christian teaching and practice that followed. This religious movement of the 16 th century that began as an attempt to reform the Roman Catholic Church, resulted in the creation of Protestant churches - the Lutheran Church, the many Calvinist churches (Reformed, Presbyterian, and the several types of Congregationalist churches), and the descendants of the Anabaptists (including the Mennonites and the Baptists).
