When God changes his mind about punishing Nineveh for their evil ways, Jonah is angry. Yet God is gracious and merciful, abounding in steadfast love. We will meet the first and third Sundays of every month, have discussions, and do various activities. The group will pretty much be whatever you want to make it, so come to a meeting and let s get the year off to a good start! PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK The Congregational Council is encouraging all our members to grow in their spirituality through a regular Prayer Life. One way of doing this is by lifting up in prayer one family from our church each day of the year. Please make note of the new office hours. We welcomed our new Administrative Manager, Jennifer Sommers, on Monday, September 11, Jennifer is married with two children and lives in Palmerton where she attends her worship services. Jennifer

3 currently serves as her church Council President as well as teaches Sunday School. Jennifer is looking forward to continuing the great work from her predecessor and looks forward to meeting the congregation. Jane Tretiak officially retired on Friday, September 15 th. We will recognize Jane and her years as our Administrative Manager on Sunday, October 1 st at both worship services. NEW MEMBERS CLASSES have been scheduled for Sundays, September 17 th, 24 th and October 1 st. The classes will be held from 9:15 to 10:15 in Kuntz Hall. Call the church office for more information at BAKED GOODS NEEDED our Outreach Ministry Committee is in need of baked goods for Saturday, September 23 rd to help with a benefit at St. Stephens. If you can help, please place your baked goods in the Kuntz Hall kitchen by 9:00am that morning marked St. Stephens. WOMEN OF THE ELCA The WELCA Fall Fun Event will be held on Saturday, September 23 rd from 8:30am 2:30pm at Hope Lutheran Church in Tatamy. Please see the flyer on the bulletin board in the narthex. This is a small group, studies are informal with excellent discussions. We are growing and learning God's word together. Everyone is invited to participate in any or all of these events. 4 CHICKEN & WAFFLE DINNER - Youth group s Chicken & Waffle Dinner will be held Saturday, October 7 th from 4:00-7:00pm with seatings every half hour. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $4.00 for children ages three to seven, and a waffle and ice cream dessert only option for $4.00. Tickets will be available Sunday after both the 8:00am & 10:30am services on September 10 th, 17 th, 24 th, and October 1 st. Thanks for your support! Fifth Street, Allentown PA 18101; LUTHERAN NIGHT AT THE PHANTOMS: The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are hosting a Lutheran Church night on Saturday October 28th in honor of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Join the Phantoms at PPL Center in Allentown for a fun night of hockey commemorating this holiday. Includes a post-game photo at center ice with all Lutheran Churches in attendance. Phantoms take on the Hartford Wolf Pack (NY Rangers affiliate). Doors open at 5:30 and puck drop is at 7:05 PM. $18 per ticket. Sign up on the board! BASKET COMMITTEE 2017 FALL BASKET SOCIAL- Hope Congregation and friends of Hope are invited to join us on Friday, October 13, 2017, in Kuntz Hall, for the 23rd annual fall Basket Social. This social will be dedicated to the memory of our lifelong member, Delores Derhammer. Delores joined the basket committee 23 years ago and even though poor health kept her away from us these past few years, she remained dedicated to the work of this church committee with the help of her daughters. Ticket sponsors for the 2017 fall social are: in loving memory of Denice Creyer Budihas by parents, Kathy and Larry Creyer; and in loving memory of Howard Strohl by wife, Kathryn; and in loving memory of husband and son, Harry and Brian Weil, by Loretta Weil.
