1 TOSHIBA St. Paul s Epistle AUGUST/ SEPTEMBER/ OCTOBER 2014 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Treasurer Report 2 Willing Workers 2 I was reading from the book of 1 Peter the other day and the following passages got me to thinking... 1:8,9 Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1:13 set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed. 3: 15,16 Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and reverence. The first passage summarizes the amazing grace of our faith in Jesus Christ. And so we will, of course, set all our hope on that grace (verse 13). But the third passage is what got me Richard Adams..Property Harold Reppert. Outreach Calvin Rausch. Music & Worship Jane Reppert... Fellowship Charles Denis 250th Anniversary Jennifer Denis...Rejuvenation to thinking about the ways in which we communicate our Christian hope to others in our twenty-first century culture. Many of you are familiar with Facebook and other methods of communication which nobody even thought of a few years ago. Now, as with any new innovation, there can be both benefits and abuses of such things. But I have come to appreciate how many Christian believers regularly post on Facebook a defense of the hope that is in us. Rejoicing with the indescribable and glorious joy of our salvation can permeate every aspect of our lives, and sharing that joy with others by communicating to our friends on Facebook is such a natural way to gently and reverently account for the hope that is in us. Keep it up, Facebook Friends! 4 P AGE 4 A huge THANK YOU to everyone that volunteered and helped us out with Vacation Bible School this year! It was another successful year. Although our numbers were a little lower than some years, the children who did attend had a great time and throughout the week invited more friends to come. Hopefully we will see them and more of their friends next year. As always, without the help of my wonderful volunteers, we would never be able to do VBS and spread god s word and love to the children. I can never thank you enough and hope you will share your experience with others and inspire them to volunteer their time next year. 6 P AGE 6 FUEL ASSISTANCE SPECIAL COLLECTION On Sunday, September 21 & 28, 2014, we will be holding a special collection. The money collected will be given to the Northern Berks Ministerium for the fuel assistance fund. This money is used during the winter months to help families in need to purchase heating fuel. There are small envelopes in the pews that you can use to place your donation; just mark the outside of the envelope fuel assistance and your name or church envelope number so we can give you credit for the donation. The envelope can be placed in the offering plate during the church service or in special baskets in the narthex for fuel assistance. If you don t attend either one of these church services and would like to donate to the worthy cause, you can mail your donation to the church and mark it fuel assistance. FIFTH SUNDAY OF THE MONTH SPECIAL FUND The fifth Sunday of the month, a special collection is collected for the Fuel Fund Drive. The money collected will be put towards the heating fuel for the year. However, if you want to donate and have it still go to the capital improvement, you may do so but please mark capital improvement on the envelope. A Special Thank You! to... FELLOWSHIP AFTER CHURCH The fellowship and refreshments after the church service is being enjoyed by everyone.. We are asking for volunteers to be in charge of providing the refreshments and serving them. This is to get more people involved and so the same people don t have to do it all the time. There will be a chart on the bulletin board in the narthex of the church for members to signup for a Sunday you would like, starting in September. We hope everyone will volunteer taking their turns, to provide the refreshment for after the worship service. This will allow us to continue this fellowship. Thank you to the people who donated refreshments for the months of May, June, & July 2014 and also to the people who stepped in to help serve and clean up after everyone was through the line. SANDWICH SALE Thank you to everyone who helped to make the sandwiches on May 28, Also, thank you to Harold Reppert for taking charge of the sandwich sales. We made around 325 sandwiches total, with the profit of about $702. Without your help, we would not be able to have the sandwich sales. SPRING CLEANING AND BEAUTIFICATION Thank you to the few people who came out in May, to help in pulling weeds and planting geraniums. Also, thank you to the members who sponsored the geraniums that were planted along the fence and at the church.
