1 SERVICE for the LORD S DAY First Presbyterian Church South Lyon, Michigan 4th Sunday of Easter / April 22, 2018 Prelude The King of Love My Shepherd Is We gather in community... Call to Worship The Good Shepherd invites us to green pastures. We are refreshed beside still waters. We have been given everything we have. God offers us everything we need. When we walk through shadowed valleys, God is with us. We are comforted and reassured. God leads us in the right paths. Our cups are filled to overflowing. God welcomes us to the table where love is expressed. We are invited to partake of the truth God offers. We have received plenty that we might share. We are called to be God s helpers. Opening Hymn #187 Savior, like a Shepherd Lead Us Do you have a prayer request? Fill out a yellow prayer card from the pew rack and place it in the offering plate during the time of the offering and your request will be shared by the pastor during the Joys and Concerns of the Church. 2 To receive God s Grace We come before God in complete honesty, confessing our sins, and asking God by the grace of forgiveness, to restore what is broken. The Passing of the Peace is one of the most ancient responses in worship. Having received Christ s peace, we pass it on. We sing in thanks for the gift of forgiveness and new life. We invite our young children to come up front at this time. Call to Confession Prayer of Confession Good Shepherd, we have wandered down the strange pathways of our world. We have ventured into dead-end streets that looked more inviting than the narrow ways marked out by the signposts of your love. We have trusted other voices and turned away from the truth. We have accepted your gifts without acknowledgement. We have failed to use our overflowing cups to fill the cups of sisters and brothers who need what we could offer. Forgive us, we pray, and restore us to your fold. Amen. Assurance of Forgiveness Sharing the Peace of Christ May the peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Doxologies have long been used by Jews and Christians to praise God. Here we honor and thank God from whom all blessings flow. We bring to God our celebrations and cares, praying for the world, the church, and those close to us. God has been with us through life s most foreboding valleys. We have been equipped to help others on their journeys. When we ask God for what we need, God provides. When we are obedient, we know God abides in us.

4 God leads us by still waters and restores our souls. God knows us better than we know ourselves. God s love in Jesus Christ has blessed us. We have received the gift of God s own Spirit. Surely goodness and mercy will pursue us through life. We will dwell in the house of our Good Shepherd. 5 CHURCH NOTES Welcome to our visitors, guests, and members this morning. Don t forget to sign our friendship pad so that we may greet you by name. Join us for a time of fellowship, coffee, and treats following worship in the Parlor. April Active Faith food is: Canned Meat. Ravioli, tuna, ham, chicken, Spam. Any and all canned meat. Food donations can be placed in the Active Faith box in the main hallway. Be sure to stop by our Fair-Trade table this morning and stock up on your favorite coffee flavors, chocolates and other treats. We have new flavors to choose from, including whole bean coffees, as well as tea. Today our Sunday school class will be going on a field trip to Glazy Days. We will meet in the Sunday School room for a pizza lunch and then head out. We will be back to church by 12:45. The cost is $15.00 per child. Join us this evening at 6:30 p.m. for our Sunday Evening Forum. This evening s guest speaker is representing the Sparrow Freedom Project Group. This local organization helps fight against human trafficking in our area. Dessert and beverages (coffee, tea, water) will be served. The South Lyon Historic Society has invited us to come and help spruce up the Historic Village on Saturday, May 5 from 9:00 a.m. noon. Come join us as we help clean out flower beds and other easy projects to help prepare for the spring and summer season. Bring your appetite and some change (or checks) to our annual Everyone Eats fundraiser luncheon on Sunday, May 6. You will get in line, receive a ticket, find a seat and be served the way our guests at E1E are served. Come, experience, and support this awesome ministry. Join us on Friday, May 11 as the Traveling Mug Club visit the River s Edge Brewing Company in downtown Milford at 6:00 p.m. Can t be there by 6? Come when you can. Enjoy a meal and beverages as we gather together for fun and fellowship. Please sign-up at the Friendship Table or online. VBS is back at FPC! Join Whiskers the Otter on an exciting adventure down the River Rampage the week of June 25, 9:00 a.m. noon. There are registration forms just outside the sanctuary or register online. VBS is for children in grades K 5, older children and youth can sign up to be a volunteer. Pastor Mike could use some assistance on Sunday mornings. Please consider being a Greeter, a Liturgist, and/or Fellowship Host/Hostess. These are all easy things that anyone can do. They also go along way in making us a friendly and welcoming congregation. Sign up sheets are floating around in the Parlor. Please consider signing up. You don t have to be a member to help.
