It appears so utterly contradictory that the king should be crucified with the criminal. This victory appears for all the world as ignominious defeat. 3 INGATHERING you are invited to help this morning by taking a slip of paper from our Ingathering Tree in the narthex. Please return your NEW unwrapped gifts to the narthex by NEXT Sunday, December 1 st. Also, don t forget our mitten tree, your donations of knit or store bought hats, scarves, mittens and gloves can be placed right on the tree. NEW MEMBERS CLASSES - will be held on the following Sundays, January 5, 12 and 19 from 9:15-10:15am. The last class (January 19) will be a reception and the new members will also be received during the worship services that morning. Income $289, Expenses $334, Net Income ($44,419.10) FAMILY FAITH CHALLENGE The theme of the family faith challenges for November 2013 is the Ten Commandments; Giving Thanks for Luther s Small Catechism. We challenge you to think about your relationship with others. How do these commandments help us? November 24-30: Luther wrote the Small Catechism for households to help them instruct their children to help them grow up in the faith. Luther considered the basics of the Christian faith to be the Ten Commandments, the Lord s Prayer, the Apostles Creed, and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. Give thanks to God for the people who have taught you about Jesus. Write a note or make a phone call to say thank you. DISCOUNT CARDS Give the gift of discounts! 4 THE STORYWEAVERS - will have their December meeting on Tuesday, December 10 th at 10:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at A Ca Mia's. All are welcome. CHILDREN S BOOKS gently used or new children s books are also needed for this year s Ingathering. They will be given to the St. Stephen s Outreach Center. EAGLE SCOUT My name is Sean Demczyszyn. I live here in Cherryville with my parents and my two sisters. I am currently a junior at Northampton Area Senior High School. I am a member of Hope Lutheran s Boy Scout Troop 242. I ve been a member of scouting here at the church since I was seven years old. I am the rank of Life and am working towards the highest rank in scouting, Eagle. One of the main requirements to earn Eagle is to organize, plan and lead a service project that benefits the community. I selected for my project the landscaping around the new lit sign in front of the church. With the assistance of five fellow Boy Scouts, we completed the project back in early October. If felt good to do my part in giving back to the church that sponsors my troop. PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK The Congregational Council is encouraging all our members to grow in their spirituality through a regular Prayer Life. One way of doing this is by lifting up in prayer one family from our church each day of the year. 5 BIBLE STUDY the evening Bible Study will begin again on Wednesday, January 8th at 6:30pm and continue for at least 12 weeks. We will be studying Ecclesiastes.
