SUMMER HYMN SING your favorite hymns will be sung for 15 minutes before each service. Anything goes! Our hymnal has a lot of hymns to choose from, so pick your favorites and we will sing them. In order to accommodate as many requests as possible, we will only sing the first two (2) stanzas of each hymn requested. CLOTHING DRIVE - It s time to clean out those closets of unwanted outgrown clothing. Our Youth Group will be collecting clothing and other household items starting TODAY, Sunday, June 2 for one week. The truck will pick up the items on the morning of June 8 th at 9 am. Items MUST be here by 8:00am on that morning. Place your items in garbage bags (bags are available on the table in the narthex) and drop off them off during the week in the narthex. Items collected include usable and wearable clothing for all seasons and all sizes, men s, women s, children, infant and shoes. Accessory items include pocketbooks, belts, backpacks, hats, scarves, baby accessories, briefcases, gloves, ties, and handbags. Household items include blankets, tablecloths, bed sheets, drapery, curtains, pillows, towels, small rugs, quilts, and comforters. Proceeds of the drive will benefit the 2015 Detroit Youth Gathering.

3 STEVE SHERMETTA - Church Council accepted with regret Steven Shermetta s resignation as Communications Specialist for Hope Lutheran Church. Steve joined the staff in October 2011 and has been a wonderful asset transforming the newsletter, moving us to e-format newsletters via Constant Contact, maintaining our publicity inside and outside the congregation and staffing the office three days a week. He is leaving to take a full-time position with Mass Mutual Insurance Company. Even though he is leaving, you may see Steve around helping with the newsletter until we hire a replacement for this position. We wish Steve God s speed as he enters this new chapter of his life! COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST - Hope Lutheran Church in Cherryville is accepting applications for a Communications Specialist (15 hours per week) to oversee all aspects of media and standard communication for the church. The primary responsibilities include creating the church s communications (written and electronic) including, but not limited to newsletters, brochures, fliers, web postings, mass s and social media. The successful candidate will work with the church s paid staff as well as volunteers to gather the information needed to perform the position. Qualifications: An Associate s degree in a related field or equivalent experience is preferred. Experience in a variety of software packages related to publishing is expected and the ability to work independently within the congregational structure and within the policies of the church. Constant Contact experience is helpful. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume, transcript (if available) and 3 references. VBS is offered for children ages 3 (potty trained) to children completing 6 th grade in June. Registrations are now open at vbs.hopecherryville.org, or pick up a registration form on the table in the narthex. WELCA newsletter is available on the bulletin board in the narthex. 4 WORK DAY a work day is scheduled to clean up the tree line around the Memorial Garden. Wear your work clothes and bring your chain saws. Wednesday, June 12 th beginning at 6:00pm (rain date is Thursday, June 13 th at 6:00pm). FAMILY FAITH CHALLENGE The theme of the family faith challenges for June 2013 is the First Article of the Apostle s Creed, On Creation. We challenge you to think about God, creation, and our responsibility to care for creation. June 2-8: Read the First Article, On Creation, and the explanation in Luther s Small Catechism. God created you; each one of you has your own fingerprint, your own DNA. There is no one who will pass through the universe who is exactly like you. You are one of a kind and God has created you! Get a stamp pad or water color paint and have everyone put his or her thumbprint on a piece of paper. Notice the similarities and differences in your family s fingerprints. PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK The Congregational Council is encouraging all our members to grow in their spirituality through a regular Prayer Life. One way of doing this is by lifting up in prayer one family from our church each day of the year. 5 CHURCH OFFICE HOURS Jane Tretiak s hours will be changing in June. Beginning Tomorrow, Monday, June 3 rd her hours for June will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00am-3:30pm. She will continue to be off on Tuesdays. Her salary is based on 30 hours from September to May, and on 26 hours for June, July and August. July and August will be a summer schedule as she will use her extra hours worked as comp time, watch the weekly bulletins for updated office hours.
