2 EASTER PEOPLE YOU ARE EUCHARIST TO ME These words greet me each month as I enter the dining room of the Siena Center Retreat House in Racine, WI, where I and our SLW candidate entering our congregation attend a formation weekend with 6-8 other orders of women and men. YOU ARE EUCHARIST TO ME If these young men and women candidates get nothing from the weekend except to look at the dining room wall and ponder these words, they will be leaving much richer. At our parish Lenten mission, Dr. Terry Nelson Johnson reminded us that we don t go to Mass/Eucharist just to watch the priest, go to Communion, and then leave. We go to PARTICIPATE and BE FED so that we can go out and FEED OTHERS. YOU ARE EUCHARIST TO ME My guess is we have some doubting Thomases reading this. Some of you doubt you could be the Body of Christ for others. Or, if you do believe it, don t much care. It strikes me that we need to do some choosing if we are to be Eucharist for others. I m writing these words on Holy Thursday, the day Jesus gave us the gift of Eucharist. The reflection of a high school teen shows we don t have to be adults to understand the truth of being Eucharist. When I read about what it truly means to be God s servant, my mind races. I can t help but honestly feel I have not done enough, to choose to be God s living hands. I need to think about this more, as I move on into my daily life. I need to know now more than ever that we are God s living hands. This teen knows the prayer of St. Theresa of Avila: Christ has no body now but yours; no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Our world is hungry. Our country is hungry. Winnetka/Glencoe is hungry. Our family is hungry. We are hungry. Easter, if we have chosen to enter into it, gives us the power /ability to be the one who feeds these folks and be fed by them. They need mercy, forgiveness, understanding, gentleness, or perhaps just a smile Let God Easter in us so we can be the Easter people our baptism calls us to be and be Eucharist for one another. This is my prayer for us the community of Sacred Heart. Sr. Luanne

Michael Sparough, S.J Father Michael Sparough is a retreat director at Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House, in Barrington, Ill., author of a number of books, and founder of Charis Ministries. He has a background in theater directing and spiritual direction. Our day of reflection is entitled The Attitude of the Beatitudes: Foundation for Ministry. Easter Dinner at A Just Harvest Sacred Heart helped make Easter Dinner special for the guests at A Just Harvest in Rogers Park: Our fourth grade Religious Ed. students made cheerful centerpieces to brighten the tables. Maria Anderson delivered food to AJH kitchen. Casserole Cooks were Ann Airey, Beth Benson, Terry Carmichael, Stacy Malles, Pat O Donnell, and Christy Shafer. The Carmichael Family and friends, the Gerths served about 120 people. Visiting with 90 year old Georgia from Georgia was a delight! Thank you, all! Three local businesses generously donated produce, bread and bagels, and desserts. Please support and thank Sunset Foods, Whole Foods, and Once Upon a Bagel. 4 Annual Catholic Appeal 2014 Pledge Report You are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16) The monthly pledge billings for the Archdiocesan Annual Catholic Appeal pledges have been mailed. It is very important that these pledges be paid so that our parish will reach and, hopefully, exceed our goal. Once the pledge payments have exceeded our goal, all of the additional funds are returned to our parish for use in our ministries. PARISH GOAL: $69,005 AMOUNT PLEDGED TO DATE: $31,080 AMOUNT PAID TO DATE: $28,005 BALANCE DUE ON EXISTING PLEDGES: $3,075 ADDITIONAL PLEDGES REQUIRED TO REACH GOAL: $37,925 Please make your pledge today! School News We are back tomorrow from spring break! Monday, April 28 th is our first day for summer uniforms! 8 th Grade will have a dance class on Monday, after school. On Friday, May 2nd, our 7 th and 8 th graders will have their Spring Dance at 7:00PM. Grandparents/Special Persons Day will be coming up soon, on Friday May 9 th! Please join us for a fun - filled day at school. Please contact the school office with your reservation. It s a GRAND contest! Please start saving those Grand Receipts! The week of May 5-9 th, we will be collecting receipts from Grand Foods. Each classroom will have an envelope that week to store the receipts, and the class at the end of the week with the highest receipt total will win an OUT OF UNIFORM DAY! The Grand gives us back 3% of our pre-tax total. Just do your shopping and hold onto those receipts until May! Only receipts dated 4/9 through 5/9 will be accepted for the contest, but of course we will take ANY and ALL you have! THANK YOU!

We will have a May Crowning during the end of class on May 4 in the gym. 8 TH GRADE SENDING FORTH BLESSING TODAY, APRIL 27 Our 8th Grade will celebrate a Mass of Sending Forth with a brief rite of blessing at the 4:30 p.m. Mass today and an ice cream social afterwards in the gathering space of church. All are welcome! 3 RD GRADE ATTENDS MASS TODAY Our 3 rd grade classes attend 9:00 a.m. Mass today. Campers will join a band, make a music video, participate in fun music activities, have a pizza party, and play a concert on the last day of each session. Summer Rock will be held at Sacred Heart Parish center for 3, one week sessions. June 16-20, June 23-27, and July Camp times are Monday- Thursday 1-5 and Friday 1-7. Each session is $350. Sacred Heart students can register by May 15 for 10% off the first session. Rob Johnson of CBS News is the emcee and Admiral Michael G. Mullen, former Chairman to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is the keynote speaker. A series of events caused her to lose her home and she was scared she would lose her children too. Thanks to the Catholic Charities Madonna House Shelter, Mary Kept her family together. She now has a full-time job and is saving for a down payment on her own home. Each day Catholic Charities shelters are home to 240 formerly homeless families.
