COLUMBANUS FOOD PANTRY The St. Columbanus Food Pantry is always in need, especially during the winter months. The pantry serves between 400 and 500 families every week. How can you help? Have your kids bring some canned food to Mass next Sunday as a Lenten remembrance of the poor! ELIZABETH MINISTRY ROSARY The Elizabeth Ministry will say the Rosary in the Chapel upstairs in the Parish offices once a month at 9am on the following Thursday mornings: March 19 April 16 May 14 June 4 The Rosary lasts minutes and is a lovely way to connect with other women/moms in the parish. RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY Join our Respect Life Ministry in our weekly prayer for life: For all those suffering in troubled or struggling marriages, especially children, that they will be assured of God the Father s unfailing care for them all. We pray to the Lord. Donate your time and energy by volunteering at the Food Pantry any Wednesday morning. Food is packed at 8:00am in the Rectory Garage, and distributed in the Courtyard at 10am. OR gather a group of friends and go down some Saturday morning to pack non-perishable foods. Call Judy Pyke to coordinate. A GREAT LENTEN ACTIVITY! St. Columbanus can always use our help. If you have a free Wednesday morning, consider spending the time helping others!

4 HEART TO HEART pastor to parish The Phone Call Father Kisaka received the phone call, the one from the Priest Personnel Board representative that informs him of his new assignment. Father has been asked by the Archdiocese to serve his next assignment at St. Ailbe parish. St. Ailbe is a great parish. It s located between Stony Island Avenue and Cottage Grove Avenue, at 9015 S. Harger Avenue, in Chicago. According to the Archdiocesan directory, 750 registered families comprise St. Ailbe parish. The current pastor of St. Ailbe is Father Larry Duris. If you recall from an earlier bulletin column, Father Kisaka s official assignment begins July 1, but he has a previously scheduled trip to his homeland, Kenya, which begins May 18. He will be attending an Ordination in Kenya, as well as visiting friends and family. Because of his Kenya trip, Father Kisaka s farewell Mass here at Sacred Heart has been scheduled for May 17 at 10:30. A reception will follow in the parish center. Please mark this date on your calendars! Father Kisaka is going to a wonderfully stable parish with a great history and a fine pastor who has many years of experience. Let us keep Father Kisaka in our prayers and thoughts as he prepares to leave Sacred Heart and join St. Ailbe parish. Religious Education Reconciliation Services In the first part of the Lenten season Father Kisaka presided at the religious education Reconciliation services in the gym. In this latter part of Lent, I am. That s why you haven t seen us greeting people after the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays of Lent. We d like to be everywhere at once, but we haven t figured out how to do that yet! The religious education kids have been great. They re very respectful and have been well-prepared by their catechists and parents to pray their way through the Reconciliation services and to make good confessions. Let s keep all our kids in the forefront of our prayers this Lent as we journey to Easter. May we all be reconciled in Christ to God the Father through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Search(es) Continue The search for the new principal and the new DRE both continue. Candidates for the DRE were interviewed this past week. More interviews are on the docket. Interviews for principal candidates begin next week, with more interviews to follow. Keep the interviewers and the candidates in your prayers, too! Thanks. Holy Week Holy Week begins with the celebration of Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion, Sunday, March 29. Don t forget to mark your calendars for what follows: the Sacred Paschal (Easter) Triduum, which would be the equivalent of our high holy days. The Evening Mass of the Lord s Supper is celebrated on the evening of Holy Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. The Solemn Celebration of the Lord s Passion is celebrated on Good Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Easter Vigil is celebrated on Holy Saturday at 8:00 p.m. More information about other services and liturgies celebrated during the Sacred Paschal Triduum is found in this bulletin.

Our 8 th graders will have dance class after school on Monday. Tuesday we will have our Lenten Prayer Service in the gym beginning at 8:30am. Please come join us! HAPPY ST. PATRICK S DAY! The 3 rd Annual Lenten MiniMarathon will be Tuesday March 17 th! SHS students will walk/run to raise money for Special Olympics of Illinois. Thank you in advance for your support of our students efforts. We appreciate your generosity! Thursday will be a noon dismissal with optional Parent/Teacher conferences to follow. There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 20 th for a Teachers In-service Day! Enjoy the long weekend! Our very own Junior Tower Players will be performing next week, Thursday, March 26 th and Friday, March 27 th at 7:00pm! Not pictured: Charlie Romano, Andrew Centner, Lauren Zwick. Three of our students were chosen to read a witness about their service: Michael Morrette, Josephine Olson, and Allison Thabit. This is a great honor, only four or five students are chosen! Be sure to congratulate our talented teens on their award! JUNIOR HIGH NIGHT is every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. 6 Hearts Alive in Worship My only desire is to unite myself to God (St. Paul of the Cross) THE SARTO FUND Remember the Sacred Heart Sarto Fund established by Msgr. Reynold Hillenbrand? The Fund enables our parish to assist members in need without causing them undue embarrassment. Many have been so grateful that they have later reimbursed the fund, although to do so is not required. As you know our parish supports many worthy outreaches; but this one is reserved for our own. Currently the Sarto Fund is somewhat depleted; we appreciate any financial support you can provide. Career Resources Of the many resources available for persons seeking employment, here are just a few that we thought might be of interest: Holy Cross in Deerfield and St Gregory Episcopal have a joint ministry called Career Renewal, which meets at Holy Cross every other month. Its website is: home.html Career Transitions Center, of which Old St Pat's is one of about 20 interdenominational sponsors, is a full time career counseling/skills assessment, etc. operations. Some of its services are free, but some require payment. Holy Name, Old St Pat's, OLPH, St Josaphat, Loyola U, DePaul U, and Kenilworth Union Church are among the sponsors. The center s website is: index.asp Career Resource Center (CRC), located in Lake Forest is a nonprofit employment resource. For 25 years, CRC has aided nearly 12,000 job candidates with an 80% success rate. We feature private coaching by industry professionals and a wide variety of education and training programs. Our services are individualized, results-focused, and affordable. Visit or call and ask us about coming in for a tour. Today s guest presider for Mass will be Fr. Pat McGrath, SJ, President of Loyola Academy. After Mass, Fr. McGrath will join us in the Parish Center for dinner and a short discussion on his homily. There will even be separate discussion sessions for kids. Finally, you ll be home by 7:00pm for your typical Sunday night activities. Some might ask, What is a Mission? It s a spiritually enriching experience held during the season of Lent. Most Missions feature speakers who offer words of renewal, transformation, conversion or reflection to inspire listeners. It s a spiritual growth event for all, including families, that you will not want to miss. FYI, Fr. Michael Sparough, SJ will be joining us next Sunday, March 22nd. Join us and bring a friend! JESUIT DAILY LENTEN REFLECTIONS Fr. Glen Chun, SJ wanted to share a link to a Jesuit website, Igniting Our Values, which provides daily reflections for your Lenten journey. You can sign up for this Ignatian digital prayer experience by visiting: Jesuits.org/story?TN=PROJECT STATIONS OF THE CROSS The Stations of the Cross will be led every Friday morning after the 8:30am Mass, with the exception of the first Friday of March, when benediction will be held in the Church. The Stations will be led by various members of our Pastoral Staff. Please join us. LENTEN REGULATIONS Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years old and older on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal fast, as well as abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.
