2 HEART TO HEART pastor to parish Presbyteral Day Next week on Tuesday all day, the diocesan and religious order priests serving in the Archdiocese will be mee ng with the Cardinal. The agendas are not typically shared ahead of me with us, although I suspect at least part of the day will be dedicated to apprising us of the status of the Renew My Church ini a ve. Please pray that we have an effec ve mee ng as we move forward into the future God is preparing for all of us. Founder s Day We ll celebrate the 120 th anniversary of the founding of our Parish this month. We ll celebrate Founder s Day with some very special events. To kick off the fes vi es, we will offer a Family Film Fest on Friday night, October 13 th, weather permi ng in the lawn area at the back of the parish center/rectory (or in the parish center in the event of inclement weather). It should be a hoot of an evening, given the film being shown: Despicable Me 3. Food trucks will be on site and adult beverages will be served for those old enough to partake. The highlight of that weekend will be Cardinal Cupich as the main celebrant and homilist at the 10:30 Mass on October 15. A recep on to welcome him will be held in the parish center immediately a er Mass. The following Friday evening, October 20 th, we ll host a special Cocktails in the Courtyard at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate our anniversary. We encourage everyone to come out to meet and greet other parishioners. Immediately following this gathering, a wonderful duet of musicians, Sator Duo, will perform at Sacred Heart Church that evening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Sator Duo is presented by Robert M. Hutmacher, OFM and Chiesa Nuova Chicago. Let s all take this me to celebrate our past, present and future! Young Families I was impressed by the number of new, young faces among the parents present for the religious educa on parent gathering last Sunday in the gym. It was a lively mee ng, in spite of the heat and humidity. This reminds me that we also have thirty new families registered in the school! This youthfulness bodes well for us as a parish. If you see a young family at Sunday Mass, make the effort to introduce yourselves to them and reach out in welcoming them, whether that s before Mass begins or a er the closing hymn. His Eminence, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, comes to Sacred Heart to help celebrate Founder s Day & our 120th Anniversary! Sunday, October 15th, 10:30 a.m. Mass Reception to follow in the Parish Center.

During this month, we remember that all human beings are made in the image and likeness of God, and are precious in the sight of our Lord. Let us pray that we too, recognize the value of every human being, especially if they look different than we do; live in a different neighborhood or city or country; face challenges we do not understand; live with disabili es we cannot fathom; prac ce another faith; live in fear for their safety; struggle to make ends meet; suffer the pain of disease or addic on; or live with debilita ng anxiety or sorrow. Let us hold them in our hearts, just as Christ taught. We pray to the Lord! Lord, hear our prayer. Over the last decade, Sacred Heart has a empted to make sure that our campus is accessible to folks with physical disabili es by adding: large print missale es assis ve listening devices for people with hearing loss ramps to make our church sanctuary accessible elevators and ramps that do likewise for our school and parish center washrooms that meet the standards of the Americans with Disabili es Act These ameni es are good and we are glad to have provided them, but do they enable us to say we are welcoming and inclusive? Do our a tudes towards EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP AT SACRED HEART Stewardship is opening our hearts, schedules and hands to others being available and willing to listen and give our me and our love. The Sacred Heart Choir rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in the lower level music studio of the Parish Center. The choir is open to high school age and adult singers.

Perhaps there are some TENORS that might be interested in joining? The Saturday Contemporary Choir, open to anyone high school age and above, sings at the 5:00 p.m. Mass each week, and rehearses before Mass at 4:15 in the church.

Sacred Heart Parish is blessed with several different musical ensembles for all age levels that minister each week at the various Sunday Masses. New singers and instrumentalists are always welcome! The Sacred Heart Choir rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in the lower level music studio of the Parish Center. The choir is open to high school age and adult singers. The rehearsals are held on Thursday Evenings at 7:30 p.m. and the choir sings at 10:30 a.m. Sunday Liturgy. We have welcomed four new members so far! Perhaps there are some TENORS that might be interested in joining? It's September again...the sounds of children's voices and laughter once again fills the hallways at the St Jean Bap ste Parish Schools in Sassier. More than 600 students from preschool to 13th grade are very happy to be back in school. Just about one year ago, October 3 & 4, 2016, Hurricane Ma hew roared through the Sassier area, destroying homes, washing away crops and ruining lives A erwards, the Schools enabled students to recover and heal in a safe and nurturing environment with friends, hot meals and a structured environment dedicated to learning and forming Hai 's future leaders. Most Sassier parents don't have any educa on, but all of them want their children to go to school and have a be er life. Their children are their hope for the future. Sassier is filled with lively, educated, and dedicated young people now, involved in many community, church and school ac vi es. They have dreams for the future. They take seriously their challenge to be leaders who will create a new and be er Hai. Thanks to friends like you, our Adopt a Sassier Student program provides nearly all the opera ng costs of the primary school at St Jean Bap ste. Your generosity makes the Gi of Educa on possible. As people say, "In Sassier, dreams become reality!" We need your help to pay and train teachers, purchase books and supplies, and cook and serve hot meals. Without you, there will be no school. Each sponsorship of $150 will provide most of a year's educa on for one St Jean Bap ste primary school student. Parents pay tui on of about $10 per year, and many struggle to pay that. However, we turn away no student. Every year, our costs increase, but parents' ability to pay does not. Please consider adop ng two or three of Sassier's wonderful primary school children this academic year. Please give them the Gi of Educa on.
