2 HEART TO HEART pastor to parish stewardship. Every year that I ve a ended I ve returned home with new ideas. I suspect the same will be the case this October. Keep me in your prayers as I a end the conference and check out the various workshops and speakers. Parish Transforma on Update I promised you that we would periodically keep you updated on the Parish Transforma on goals and objec ves. Copies of the latest report can be found in the gathering space. Lots of individuals in the parish are working on the various goals and objec ves. Our parishioners have very busy lives. That s why we ve given ourselves a handful of years to accomplish all these goals and objec ves. Oktoberfest Mark your calendars now! Oktoberfest is coming. Saturday, October 8 is the date. Our volunteer parishioners are gearing up and doing a whole lot behind the scenes to prepare for this rollicking good me. Saturday evening Mass that night will be celebrated early (at 4:00 p.m. in front of the parish center). Immediately a er Mass, the Oktoberfest celebra on will commence. Get ready. Get set. Prosit! In God s good me and by his abundant grace, we ll get there. We ll accomplish all of the goals and objec ves we set out for ourselves through the Parish Transforma on process. Thank you to everyone on our marvelous staff. Thank you to our dedicated and hardworking parishioners involved in ministry within and outside the parish. Step by step we move forward into the future God is preparing for us. Stewardship Once again, I ll be a ending the Interna onal Catholic Stewardship Conference. It spans four days in early October. I hope to come back with a renewed focus on the gospel impera ve of

4 Hearts Alive in Worship My only desire is to unite myself to God (St. Paul of the Cross) THIS WEEK S SPOTLIGHT ON THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY The following is a Prayer for Peace that Pope Francis offered in June of Lord God of peace, hear our prayer! We have tried so many mes and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our own powers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hos lity and darkness have we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have been sha ered; how many hopes have been buried But our efforts have been in vain. Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: Never again war! ; With war everything is lost. Ins ll in our hearts the courage to take concrete steps to achieve peace. Lord, God of Abraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as brothers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensi ve to the plea of our ci zens who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepida on into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness. Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with pa ence and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconcilia on. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words division, hatred and war be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be brother, and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam! Amen. THE RCIA ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO Has expressed an interest in Catholicism? Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? Was bap zed Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirma on? We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of the Catholic Church via the Scriptures and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Bap sm, Confirma on, and Eucharist during the Easter season. This process is commonly known as the RCIA or the Rite of Chris an Ini a on of Adults. You are welcome to par cipate in the process with your ques ons, your insights and your faith story in a warm accep ng se ng. WEEKLY SCRIPTURE REFLECTION GROUP Please note: The Scripture Reflec on group that meets on Monday mornings will NOT meet tomorrow September 26. Our gatherings will resume next Monday, October 3rd a er the 8:30am Mass, in the Parish Office Fireplace Room. Join us as we read and reflect on the coming Sunday readings. No knowledge or experience with Scripture is necessary just a simple desire to learn more about the word of God. RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY WEEKLY PRAYER FOR LIFE For members of the Church: May God open our eyes to his gi of life and move our hearts with compassion to protect and care for it; We pray to the Lord! SATURDAY MORNING ROSARY Sacred Heart parishioners gather together every Saturday morning before the 8:30am Mass to say the Rosary in Church. Join us at approximately 8:00am. All are welcome!

Join the Sacred Heart Music Ministry! Do you or someone in your family love to sing or play a musical instrument? Regardless of age young, old or in between please consider sharing your musical gi s by joining one of the several musical ensembles that enrich Sacred Heart s weekend liturgies. Which one of our ensembles suits you? Sacred Heart Choir The Sacred Heart Choir is open to high school age and adult singers. This Choir sings at 10:30 a.m. Mass each Sunday and rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the music studio in the lower level of the Parish Center. Saturday Contemporary Choir The Saturday Contemporary Choir is also open to anyone high school age and above, and sings at the 5:00 p.m. Mass each Saturday. It rehearses before Mass at 4:15 p.m. in the church. Teen Choir Our Teen Choir is open to students from 8 th Grade through high school and college age. We re in the process of reforming the Teen Choir, and hope to have them sing at least once a month, at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, where their contemporary repertoire will complement the adult choir s repertoire. We encourage all teens to consider this vital ministry, especially if they play an instrument. Children s Spirit Choir The Spirit Choir is for our younger students, from 3 rd through 7 th Grade in either Sacred Heart School or the Religious Educa on program. The Spirit Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings a er the 10:30 a.m. Mass (snacks are provided), and will also sing at the 10:30 Mass one Sunday a month, where partnering with the adult choir will enable our youngest singers to learn a variety of choral works for young choirs. Each family should read it together and return the signed Handbook Agreement to either our office or your Catechist next week. Students meet in the Gym at 9:00 a.m. Students and Catechists will join the parents in the Parish Center at 9:30 a.m. September 27 th, First Communion and Confirma on Parent Event All parents of children receiving the sacraments of First Communion and Reconcilia on, and Confirma on this year should a end this inspira onal evening. Join us on Sunday, October 16th at 1:30 pm. It's going to be a beautiful autumn afternoon for walking. We begin at Centennial Park in Evanston and end in Willye B. White Park in Roger Park where we will have a block party with music, food, and vendors from the community. It's a great way to get to meet others and raise money for a great cause. Check out the website to learn more about the ministry. It's a short 2 1/2 mile walk so it's perfect for the whole family. Just go to start your own team. Ask all your friends and family to join you!
