THE WELL Men s Conference to be held March 30, 2019 The diocese s Men s Ministry Team will host THE WELL Men s Conference on March 30 at Greensburg Central Catholic. The event includes workshops, open discussions, the sacrament of reconciliation and adoration, and it concludes with Mass celebrated by Bishop Malesic. The keynote speaker will be Mike McCoy, an Erie native who is a former Notre Dame and NFL star. Register at 21st annual Communities of Salt and Light Awards Dinner April 25, 2019 Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg will host the 21st annual Communities of Salt and Light Awards Dinner April 25 at 6 PM at Stratigos Banquet Centre, North Huntingdon. Bishop Malesic will present the awards for humanitarianism, philanthropy and outstanding human services organization. All net proceeds benefit people in need in the diocese s four counties. 3 FROM THE DESK OF FATHER ANTHONY.. Thank you for the many kind words of welcome that you extended last week as I began my time here at Holy Trinity. Please don t be offended if I ask you your name a few times I promise I am trying to remember them. This year Ash Wednesday is March 6, as you might already know. Easter comes on April 21. Are you thinking about how Lent will be different for you this year? The 40 days of the Lenten Season that the Church gives us every year just a little over a tenth of the year are a great gift. We become distracted from what is really important in our lives and perhaps have turned away from God, in subtle ways and in in some not-so-subtle ways. The three pillars of Lent praying, fasting, and almsgiving will put us back on track with our relationship with God. We are working on a parish Lenten schedule and will have details soon. One of the integral parts of Lent in the Diocese of Greensburg is the Diocesan Lenten Appeal. Our diocesan goal for 2019 is $48,304, and our parish goal is $53,304. Anything over the diocesan goal will be returned to our parish. All parishioners will receive a letter with further information about the DLA as Lent draws closer. May I please encourage you to begin reflecting about how you will support the DLA this year? The Easter Triduum is the most important time of the year. This year, the Triduum begins on April 18 (Holy Thursday) and ends on Easter Sunday evening (April 21). A greater understanding of the 3 Days will lead us to a greater appreciation of these days and, we hope, a greater experience of God s love for us. I would like to have a discussion group regarding The and Celebration of the Easter Feasts. Would you be interested? I am wondering what the best time is. Please let me know more details soon. Today is World Marriage Day and National Marriage Week began last Thursday, February 7, and is observed through Thursday, February 14. The Bishops of the United States have chosen Marriage: Made for a Reason as this year s theme. Check out the webpages and for more information. Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, the chairman of the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, writes that World Marriage Day is an annual opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with promoting and defending marriage and the family. This Monday, February 11, is the World Day for the Sick. Pope St. John Paul II instituted this day in 1992, designating it as a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one s suffering for the good of the Church and reminding us to see in our sick brother and sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying, and rising, achieved the salvation of humankind. Please remember the sick and suffering in your daily prayers. HOLY TRINITY, ONE GOD, HAVE MERCY ON US! The Ligonier Valley Food Pantry Holy Trinity Parish will be collecting Dried beans and Rice January 26 thru this Sunday, February 10 for the Ligonier Valley Food Pantry. This is our yearly contribution with The Ligonier Valley Association of Churches. We hope to collect 80 units total. Boxes will be placed at the entrances of our church starting January 26. As always we thank you for your generous giving hearts. Anne Mary Campbell and Willie Ulery represent Holy Trinity with the Ligonier Valley Association of Churches. There will be Coffee Socials in the Atrium after both the 8:00 AM and the 11:00 AM Masses on Sunday, February 17. All are invited to attend. Melchizedek Project vocations discernment sessions for high school students The Melchizedek Project days for young men in grades 9-12 will be held at Greensburg Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School from 6:30-8 PM Feb. 17, March 10, April 14 and May 12. Christian Mothers Collection During the month of LOVE (February), CHRISTIAN MOTHERS is asking you to open your hearts and donate NEW (required by law) infant sleepers, onesies, large crib blankets, bibs, booties, socks, receiving blankets, hats and newborn/small (8-12 pound) disposable diapers for LAYETTES FOR NEWBORNS of the local Open Hands Ministries. We are also collecting new and like new maternity, infant and baby clothes (up to age 2) as well as baby wipes, bottles and diapers for CATHOLIC CHARITIES.
