2 Weekly Message Holy Week St. Teresa of Avila told the story of the devil's appearing to her in the guise of the Risen Christ, hoping to tempt her into believing that it was Jesus himself coming to her. Immediately she dismissed him; but before he le her the Evil One asked her how she knew that he was not Christ. St. Teresa answered, Because you have no wounds. The source of Chris an joy is Christ's resurrec on from the dead. The tomb is empty. His risen body is glorified, but it remains his, bearing the wounds of his passion. As we enter into Holy Week we remember the passion death and resurrec on of our Lord with wonderful liturgies. At the Holy Thursday liturgy the Triduum, the great Three Days that celebrate the central mystery of our faith, begins. Triduum rituals invite us all to bap smal renewal, par excellence. Here are some examples. Washing of Feet: A er the homily on Holy Thursday, we imitate our master in the washing of feet. This ritual reminds us that our bap smal commitment means we are to be servants of one another. In the me of St. Ambrose in Milan, those who were bap zed also had their feet washed, because of Jesus' words to Peter: "Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed" (Jn 13:10). Many scholars have seen a bap smal reference in those words. Venera on of the Cross: As part of our observance of Good Friday, we venerate the cross on which Christ died. The venera on challenges us to be willing to accept the cross, too, for it is the only way to resurrec on. Through Bap sm, we shared in Christ's death that we might come to new life. Every year we are called to deepen our iden fica on with his cross and resurrec on. Waters of Bap sm: The core of our celebra on of the Easter Vigil is the Bap sm of the elect. As we share in their joy on this holy night, we are all called to renew our own bap smal promises, to live in the joy of life in the Risen One. Please note the different mes of the Holy Week Liturgies. On behalf of the parish staff and school of St. Bruno and St. Paul, I want to wish you all a blessed Holy Week. Fr. Dan Catholic Quotes Words to Inspire the Faithful God did not come to explain suffering. He came to fill it with His presence. - Paul Claudel BORN TO ETERNAL LIFE Pauline Kopinski Eternal rest grant onto her O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. The Parish Office will close at Noon on Good Friday, March 30th Walk the Labyrinth Good Friday you can walk the Labyrinth in the gym at St. Bruno's before or a er the St. Bruno 3pm Good Friday service. Labyrinths are circular walkways created from sacred geometry. They symbolize the path of the soul through life Labyrinths have been around for more than 4,000 years and are found in every religious tradi on. It is a way for one to walk a pilgrimage without having to travel to Jerusalem. Walking the labyrinth clears the mind and gives insight into the spiritual journey. It urges ac on. It calms people in the throes of life transi ons. It helps them see their lives in the context of a path, a pilgrimage. The experience is different for everyone because each of us brings our unique hopes, dreams, history, and longings of the soul." (Walking a Sacred Path by Dr. L. Artress) Labyrinth mes - 1:30-2:45pm or a er the 3pm service un l 5pm. THINK SPRING! The Annual Spring Flower Sale is here! Check out the bulle n for order form and sale details. 4 WHAT IS YOUR CATHOLIC IQ? The Catholic Church organiza on that is known by the acronym CRS: a) Catholic Rotary Society b) Catholic Relief Services c) Catholic Ra ng System d) Catholic Reading Stand. Why do we do that? CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED Ques on: Where do Palm Sunday palms come from and where should they go? Answer: The Palm Sunday celebra on has ancient origins. Beginning the liturgy "outside" the church, we symbolically reenact Christ's entry into Jerusalem. The crowds in ancient Israel waved palm branches - a symbol of royalty - to welcome Jesus. These days, obtaining palms takes a lot of planning and coordina on, as hundreds of thousands of churches worldwide need them on the same day! Many in the United States order palms from Florida, California, Texas, or Central America. Many companies stress the sustainability of their produc on and the just wages paid to their workers. The palms used on Palm Sunday are blessed at Mass. This means they shouldn't end up in the trash! Many people weave palms into crosses or families display them in their homes. If you do not plan on displaying your palms throughout the year, they should be burned, buried, or le at the church. In the final case, the palms are burned to provide the ashes for next year's Ash Wednesday service. Bereavement Support Group Sessions St. Bruno's Circle of Life Bereavement Ministry will offer Bereavement Support Sessions on Tuesdays, June 5 through July 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Anyone who has had a loved one die recently or some me ago is invited to join this eight week, spiritually-centered seminar. The presenta ons are taken from Alan Wolfelt's book, Understanding Your Grief: Ten Essen al Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart. Dr. Wolfelt uses a "companioning" model of bereavement which emphasizes the spiritual, soul-based nature of the grief journey. During Lent, through your gi s, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring the mercy of Jesus into the hearts of the poor, by assis ng many families, providing food, and money for u lity and rent bills. Sharing the Gospel For the Kids Your mom tells you, "Grandma should be here any minute." You watch out your window for her li le red car to come down your street. A er she parks her car, you run out to meet her. You are so happy she came to visit! The people in today's Gospel were wai ng for a king to come. This king would ride into Jerusalem, not in a li le red car, but on a donkey. When all the people saw Jesus riding on the donkey, they knew he was the king that they were wai ng for. They ran out to meet him and waved palm branches in the air. They were so happy he came. Prayer: God, I am so happy you sent Jesus to be my king. Mission for the Week Invite your Grandma over to visit. ST. PAUL MASS SCHEDULE: Saturday: 5:30 p.m. Sunday: 9:00 a.m. Weekdays: Tues. 8:00 a.m. & Fri. 8:45 a.m. Reconcilia on: 2nd & 4th Saturday 10:00 a.m. or by appointment Friday, March 30 Good Friday Service St. Paul 1:00 p.m. St. Bruno 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31 Holy Saturday St. Bruno 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, April 1 8:00 a.m. Parishioners of St. Bruno & St. Paul : a.m. Pa y Ann Drakos LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK Today some of the most poignant themes of human life come into clear central focus: the feeling of being praised and honored, fear, anxiety, betrayal, despair, doubt, uncertainty, trust, hope, sadness, separa on, suffering, death, determina- on, and courage. These are the emo ons and reali es that every human being wrestles with o en. Jesus, the Son of God, encounters them all. As we journey through life, we have to confront the existen al meaning of each of these things. How do they fit into the bigger picture? Jesus shows us most clearly that even those things we fear the most lose their power when we discover that we are being led to new life. Suffering is redemp ve. Sin and death give way to grace and life and God's uncondi onal love conquers all. May we see in Jesus' Way of the Cross the path of truth we all must follow.
