EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR (WITH BENEDICTION) SEASONS CHANGE Advent Is Nearly Upon Us The Worship Ministry needs volunteers to help decorate for the next season, the Church s new liturgical year (2017) - ADVENT, December 3. Can you help for an hour or two on Monday, November 27 at 6:00 PM? If you cannot come during the evening please consider helping during the day. We will be creating our Advent Wreath by placing boughs in an 8 foot diameter wreath at 10:00 AM. Please contact Wayne ( ext. 206), natwe@nativityparish.com if you have questions. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. In keeping with Bishop Ricken s recent pastoral reflections, Teach My People to Pray, Phase 1 of Disciples on the Way: Prayer and Holiness, our parish offers a monthly Eucharistic Holy Hour with Benediction; the second Monday of each month. Our next HOLY HOUR will be on Monday, November 13 at 12:05 PM. THE BOOK OF THE DEAD In Memory of Your Loved Ones This book is prominently placed by the Baptismal Font during the month of November to honor our deceased brothers and sisters. It sits on a stand that is draped with a Funeral Pall and illuminated by the Paschal (Easter) Candle. The Font is a place of life and death, for it is where we are baptized into Christ Jesus; where all of us die, are buried, and are raised to new life in Christ Jesus. Everyone is welcome to inscribe the names of those they mourn so that the assembled community can prayerfully remember them. A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO LYNDAHL FUNERAL HOME For donating the 66 candles for our All Souls Day celebration last week. Each of these candles represented a parishioner whose funeral was celebrated this past year at Nativity. All 66 names were read and a representative from each family was invited to take home their loved ones candle from around the Baptismal Font. This candle is a symbol of the resurrection; a hope and belief that all will rise with Christ. Thank you Lyndahl for helping us make this a meaningful celebration for these families who grieve the loss of their loved one LECTOR WORKBOOKS The Church begins its 2018 liturgical year on the First Sunday of Advent, December 3. The new liturgical year, beginning with the first Sunday of Advent, also marks the transition from one lectionary cycle (A, B, or C) to the next...readings built around readings from the three synoptic Gospels - Matthew, Mark, and Luke. We transition from Matthew s Gospel to Mark s (Cycle B). All Lectors are requested to pick up a 2018 Lector Workbook from the rear Sacristy. 5 150TH ANNIVERSARY March 3, 2018 marks 150 years that Catholics have officially been praising God and helping others as the Diocese of Green Bay. In honor of that the Diocese has published a book. The book offers an overview of that journey, which dates back more than 150 years. Each chapter in Section One briefly looks at areas important to the development and ministry of the diocese. In the late 1950 s, Pope St. John XXIII urged the church to read the signs of the times which set the church on a course of change. How that impacted the Diocese of Green Bay is recounted in the chapter on the impact of Vatican II and the role played by our own Bishop Aloysius Wycislo. There have been turbulent times as society and human nature challenged us, but it also has been times of great joy and celebration. 7 OUR AMAZING PARISH PARISHIONERS Nativity is an Amazing Parish because of people like Gladys Theis, a parish member with a passion for sharing her time and talents here at Nativity. Gladys is a mailing helper and a nursing home volunteer for the Masses on Thursday at The Bay at Maple Ridge. She has been a faithful prayer at Adoration since it started. At Faith Formation classes, she helps with projects and shares her faith experience. She works with the Silent Auction at the summer picnic. Gladys has donated a basket every year for twelve years! Gladys works with quilt-making in the Warmth of the Heart organization, which donates quilts to needy families. Gladys truly has been generous with her time, talent and treasure for many years. We appreciate her active participation over the years. She does all of this with a warm heart and a sweet smile. We are so blessed to have her here at Nativity. As we recognize Gladys for the wonderful things she does for our parish this week, please remember to give her a handshake, a hug and/or a smile in thanks for all she does. If you know of someone to recognize, please contact the Parish Office at NEW/USED SUNGLASSES NEEDED We are still looking for sunglasses! The Women s Lioness Group is in search of any new/used sunglasses that anyone can donate. These sunglasses will be given to Honduras for the field workers that work sun up until sun down without eye protection. All sunglasses are needed: men s, women s, children s.please donate if you have any extras lying around. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. All donations can be brought into the Parish Office. Thank you! NEEDED Once again, some of Nativity s parishioners will be traveling to Texas and then across the border to a Mission in Mexico. They bring them clothing and shoes, but the most requested item is shampoo and personal hygiene items, but especially shampoo. They will also take hotel sized and partially used bottles. We had a terrific amount of donations last year that were truly appreciated. If anyone would like to donate to this wonderful cause to provide for people at the Mission, please drop items off in the Parish Office on weekdays between 8 am & 4 pm. THANK YOU! NEW COMMUNITY SHELTER VOLUNTEERS A huge thank you goes out to a great bunch of volunteers that served at the NEW Community Shelter in October!! The following people helped in orchestrating a great meal for 165 people: Brian Luchs, Ed Brady, Cathy and Tom Harrison, Arlene and Fred Kaminski, the Kreutzberg s Sandy, Rick, Shawn, Parker, & Carter, Jim Miller and Bonnie and Gary Paul! Additionally, hats off goes to the Swan Club for providing the warm chicken dinner! They all pitched in to provide a warm and healthy meal. Their effort and presence was greatly appreciated. 8 In Jesus Name.. Who do you say that Jesus is? Are you living your life according to Jesus? The theme of this year s Stewardship Weekend is: In Jesus Name: Be Bold, Be Grateful, Pray, Serve, Share! This theme speaks to not only intentionally living out of gratitude and love to honor the risen and ever present Jesus, but to do it in a bold manner. We have to ask ourselves the following question before we can boldly commit our lives in Jesus Name. Jesus posed that question to the Apostles. The Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 16:13-20) states And who do you say that I am?. The Jesus we envision and our relationship with Him should directly correlate to the boldness, gratitude and generosity in our lives. There truly are no shortcuts. Just as we invest in acts of love for family members, friends or neighbors, we need to be authentically invested for Jesus. The pathway to becoming a bold, grateful, and generous steward is recognizing who Jesus is in my own life. Is He my Savior, friend, teacher, Lord? Has my life changed or am I different because of my encounters with Him? When I live my life for Him, do I experience joy and peace? No matter where I am on the journey is a good place to start. Many of us end our prayers with In Jesus Name when we are praying for particular needs, either privately or in a community. We follow the direction of Jesus, And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14). To be a Christian steward is to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. We offer our gratitude in Jesus name. We make time and space in His name to build our relationship with Him. We seek to understand our unique gifts to serve others in His name. We offer generous portions of our financial blessings in His Name. We joyfully recall what Jesus has done for us and what He continues to do and we are not shy about it. Thank you for all that you are and all the ways you Boldly Live In Jesus Name in our parish. The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament for those who are in need of physical, emotional, or spiritual healing.
